Very enjoyable dinner here recently. Ate our fill! Good selection of cold and hot options. All the classics are there as well as some new ones (at least for me)
Highlights was the tuna ceviche, the pork belly nap and my personal favourite the octopus balls.
Total cost was £80 inc a number of beers for two.

The food was so good that I totally forgotten to take pictures of them. Everything we ordered was delicious and fresh. Not forgetting the service was superb as well. When you get in, it looks small but there’s another door that goes upstairs with more seating. Upstairs would be a nice place for a private function. Totally recommend this place for a good Japanese meal.

Food was fantastic although I was unable to try the ramen as they stop selling this after around 7. However the staff were very friendly and talked us through the menu and even encouraged us to try the octopus balls (something I would usually avoid at all costs) but I must say they were excellent and I was left wanting more. They even gave us some free plum wine as it was my birthday, the plum wine was delicious and very sweet.

Excellent food and service, love the menu where the chef decides what you will be served, based on what you tell the waiter you like and don't. High quality ingredients, would not say all dishes are 100% authentic but all a delight nonetheless. The decoration by the bar is very Japanese-like, well done

We went for my boyfriend's birthday and had a good enough time. However, despite the excellent table service, upon arrival we were disappointed by the kitchen on more than one instance. We both love ramen and always have it when we go to a new Asian place; unfortunately, when we got there at 20.15 we were told ramen is not served at this time as it is a big hassle. Had we known that in advance, we would probably have changed our plans and gone there for lunch instead. After this initial disappointment it also became clear some of the salmon dishes are not available either. The portions were rather small, but the waitress did let us know about that so it was fine. When we got the food our 'meh' attitude was turned around - the octopus balls and the salad were fabulous! Gyoza and the chicken dish with the egg dip (cant remember the name) were also spot on, so at the end of the day we did have a nice dinner just not what we were expecting. The girl who served our food and helped us choose was very nice, she also offered us a complimentary shot of plum wine which was 11/10 and made my night! P.s I forgot to take pictures of all the food, but it all looked good

Good japanese place in Aberdeen. Although i dont think there are many options! Menu is chicken and pork oriented, limited desserts option.
Great food, great vibe, well priced, staff are super friendly but when we visited the service was a bit slow due to limited staff.

Food is fantastic, highly recommend. Service is excellent as well. Went for the ramen and wasn't disappointed, best I've had.

We eat regularly at Yatai and normally we would be consistently rating them a 5, however here are the reasons for the 3 (sorry it's long but trying to be comprehensive):
They are changing their menu to be able to offer more local options which we completely support, however this now means you can't get the same flexibility you had before with their menu options. Our favourite dish of wataragani maki (soft shell crab roll) is no longer on the menu. You can get the crab still on its own with a wasabi mayonnaise (not as good as the roll). Instead of ordering the sushi you want, you can order a 3-type nigiri, sashimi or maki option but what type of fish you get is chef's selection. Last night there was tuna on the specials so you would think you could have tuna as part of the 3 selection, but not the case. So you would have to order the tuna separately.
Finally, they are now making their own soy sauce which apparently takes a week to make and making their own wasabi which they now give you half as much as before and they now charge you for their special soy sauce if you want more than the two tablespoon portion that comes with the sushi (it's no longer on the table). To be honest, we would be perfectly happy with store bought soy sauce and wasabi paste to have more of it ( I know, we are so uncouth), but there was really nothing extraordinary about the soy sauce or wasabi. So to sum it up, we are disappointed with the menu changes and hope this is just teething issues and some of the old menu options can be worked back into the new menu. We get it that the restaurant is having to make some changes for fishing and financial sustainability but for the sushi options, think yatai should rethink this as this was such a strength before the menu changes.

Just home from a meal here. Honestly the best meal we have had in such a long time! We have wanted to go for ages but never got around to it. Certainly worth the wait! Can’t wait to go back already!
We both love Japanese food and usually have katsu, however we opted for the “trust us” option and didn’t have a single katsu item... usually this would have disappointed however we didn’t miss it at all... every single dish was beautiful!

Had a fabulous meal on Sunday. It was my 70th birthday & as l hadn’t been there before my family decided to take me there. We had an excellent array of tasters, which gave me a huge amount of selection. Our main course was so good & once again everyone allowed me to dip into theirs. Dessert was delicious, yummy!! The chef was excellent & all the dishes were well presented. The fancy bits & bobs, pickles etc. were fantastic!! The staff were very friendly & helpful. I was impressed by the cleanliness & all over decor. The disabled toilet was nice & clean!! Would thoroughly recommend them & l did notice vegan & vetigerians were also well catered for!! Will definitely go back again!! Wish l could go everyday!! Happy Happy Happy!!! 🦋💕

This is the third time we have eaten here and we love it. The food is excellent from the sushi to the desserts. Our favourites are the pork belly skewers with miso mustard and the black sesame ice cream but everything is delicious. Good service and a lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend

This restaurant is a hidden gem, we really enjoyed our lunch today. I was so pleased the vegan options were so tasty and there were plenty to choose from as well as a sorbet dessert. Highly recommended and cannot wait to return in the near future.

Just back from another amazing meal at Yatai. Took my parents for the first time and they said it was one of the best meals they have had in years. Neither had tried raw fish before and they were in love with the tuna sashimi and salmon ceviche. Whole of downstairs was completely full which is fantastic for a Wednesday night in January. The lovely girl who served us was so attentive and helpful as all the staff always are, I wish I had gotten her name!
By far one of the best, if not the best restaurant in Aberdeen, I absolutely love it!

Just had a fabulous birthday meal here with the family! Service was fantastic, our waitress was really lovely and very knowledgeable. Great selection of quality food, and had a fantastic range of vegetarian and vegan options (which were clearly labelled, with most vegetarian options easily altered to vegan)! Can't wait to return :)

Visited here to celebrate my partners birthday and was absolutely amazing from start to finish. Waitress was so attentive from the moment we entered the restaurant and took the time to explain each and every dish as it arrived. Food was amazing and sake particularly good. Cannot recommend this place highly enough...can't wait until our next visit. Kanpai!!

It was really good. The music was a bit loud but very chilled atmosphere and lovely waiter explained the menus. Would go again.

Super friendly wait staff, great food.
I would recommend sitting at the downstairs bar/ grill and talking to the chef. I have spent a not inconsiderable amount of time / money in there and it has been worth every penny. Be prepared to eat way more than your stomach thinks it can handle !

Pretty good food and good service. Could do with sharpening up and would be really great. More help on choices to make and a guide on what the chef is best at, would be helpful. I can't help thinking that a half decent restaurant like this would be less than average if it was in London, but if it takes a leap of faith to up it's game it could really clean up in Aberdeen. All it takes is a good sharpening of service, decor and menu and it'll be great.

Absolutely great place! Delicious food very good quality. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. I can't wait when we go there again.

Fantastic food and service as always. Pork belly Ramen was incredible. Spicy pork dumplings and crispy chicken is our favourite also xx

Excellent evening. Patient staff who cared that we had a lovely food experience. Excellent interesting meal. Steak was delicious. Hope to go back again!

We had lunch here and the service was good, the place was small but comfy, and the decoration was mixed and match. The thing is i dont really fancy is the food itself, its not authentic (as i thought), the broth of salmon ramen was not deep, the spicy minced pork ramen was super oily, and the pork belly ramen was not bad. The gyozas was okay and katsu curry bowl was standard as the curry taste like the instant curry paste block. <br/>Overall just okay, but wont rushing back for the food.
