South Tynedale Railway - Alston - Photo album

We're staying nearby, so weheaded down on Saturday. We got tickets nice and easy from the helpful, friendly staff. We went for a short walk along the path at the side of the line while we waited for the train to arrive. It was a nice ride along the line to Slaggyford, where they had a buffet car ser
Interesting quirky railway with friendly staff and 5 miles of track with scenic cumbrian countryside. Loved travelling in the open coach. Made a great afternoon out.
Nice little narrow gauge railway, really friendly staff and volunteers throughout, felt around 5 miles and decent spot for walkers!
We took the railway from Alston to Slaggyford return. Volunteers running the railway couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The cafe at Slaggyford did great hot chocolates, and was 100% doggy friendly. Was such a scenic journey, even with it raining. Next time we will consider walking part of
A lovely walk along the South Tyne river and railway. You need to check days and times if intending to see the trains running. Parking on the road alongside the station in Alston. The path is hard stoned surface suitable for all, however not quite suited for wheelchair users as mentioned in some of
It's a nice little place, the train looks like something out of a movie. We plan to do the train ride, the people in the café are so friendly and the foods are really nice too.
First off we didn't actually go on the train but we did call into cafe which is on the platform. You have the option of sitting in or outside if the weather is nice, decent selection of sandwiches etc in a lovely setting, staff very pleasant and prices reasonable, dog friendly. Worth calling in if
A nice little place to spend a few hours if your in the area 😊👍
Amazing and beautiful well looked after great place to eat as well with great staff
Cafe on the platform. Ate Coronation chicken sandwiches, with salad and small bottle of white wine. Very nice. Thank you.
Journeyed from Slaggyford but sadly the buffet car owners were on holiday ( in peak season - not sure why????) And had to pay for tickets at Alston. But not a problem for the honest folks amongst us. Journey shows the scenery off at its best. Alston is interesting to wander round, but shops are dyin
Nice walk along rail track to tea trail
Lovely little railway, well worth the money.
Cafe at Alston station really good but closed Monday and Tuesday. Steam Trains run most weekends. You can walk or cycle along railway track all the way to Haltwhistle. Steep detour off route at Lambley Viaduct but otherwise easy walking.
Lovely experience. Friendly, helpful staff.
Had a spot of lunch in the railway station in Alston food was spot on and dog friendly too! Enjoyed a walk along by the track Good time had!! Oh yes very friendly staff in the cafe! Recommend 👍
Absolutely brilliant Heritage Railway, a really lovely route, surrounded by stunning countryside. Great shop and cafe at the Alston end of the route and a great cafe in a train carriage at the Slaggyford end. All the staff and volunteers were so friendly and happy to help with information. Really
Lovely railway & staff. Toilets very modern & very clean.
Lovely coffee shop. Train runs on weekends only so we missed out but it looks awesome
