Really nice cosy cafe, staff were so friendly and chatty. Dog friendly also, my pup got a towel, water and a treat. Highly recommend, food was lovely. Will definitely be back for an evening meal and cocktails.

We booked in advance this little Gem of a place. The food was fabulous and so was the service. It was very clean and inviting. We will definitely return!

Cute little restaurant with delicious food! I had the cheese and onion pie and it was to die for. Definitely recommend going here for romantic cosy night.

Nestled at the mid section of slack Lane, a very comforting entrance into a extremely cosy setting.
We pre booked, the table was small, but enough for us.
Staff were really friendly and so helpful with my dietary requirements, which was such a relief!
The lamb was soft, delicious and so well seasoned. The sausage dish was really tasty according to my husband, he really loved the red wine gravy too!
Not a reaction from me, so the dish was carefully made to ensure I didn't suffer as I can't digest milk.
Not the cheapest, but we wanted a fine dining experience and we got this!
My thanks to the chef, and to the staff. Thank you so much for making our first meal of our honeymoon a real treat ❤️

Absolutely delicious, cannot fault it at all. The people were really friendly, the place is gorgeous and the food is absolutely amazing. Would eat here again and again and again 😁

Outstanding food, a wonderful dining experience. Had the Sea Trout followed by stick toffee pudding, which was presented as well as it tasted. Kids enjoyed thier meals (sausage and mash) and ate every bite of it, and it was a good portion. We prebooked for 6pm online and all was good when we arrived, shown straight to the table. Quite quiet at that time, but like I say we had the kids with us - the place is much bigger than it looks from the quaint outside!

A wonderfully simplistic design that let's the food do the talking. Specials board has a soup, burger and quiche. We had a broccoli and bacon soup that came with plenty of bread and vegetarian sharing platter for one, which had a great variety on.
Then for mains we had a wild boar and apple burger which was delicious with perfectly cooked chips. We also had the trout which was so good the table next to us ordered it too!
Staff were excellent, thoroughly enjoyed being there.

I visited twice during a weekend away, once for lunch and second time for tea and cake, both around lunchtime. Service was really quick and food was delicious. Cakes were lovely. Tea comes loose with a strainer.
Great place, would recommend

Came here on a weekend away and the food and service was amazing!! Highly recommend the steak and Stilton sauce and the baileys and chocolate chip cheesecake. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in the Lakes!

Lovely restaurant. Food is very well cooked. Perfect veg. Staff are all very attentive. I was dubious of going back here, as we visited several years ago and the service was poor to say the least. Would not hesitate to go again, clearly something has changed. We received first class service this time.

Food was half decent, we had the burger and chips! £20 though for a burger n chips felt a little excessive but just like everywhere in the lake District its overpriced

Cozy, but not crowded restaurant tucked away in downtown Ambleside. It was a pleasant environment after a chilly day of walking. We had the sea trout (salmon???) and the huge boar burger. The wait staff was excellent. You'll need to book ahead.

Super Tomato and herb soup today. Served with artisan bread. Cosy and warm interior. Service was swift and pleasant. Recommended when in Ambleside.

Pleasant meal overall. Cosy inside, bit dated interior. But very friendly service with nice food, albeit nothing to write home about.

This place is very busy and is a hidden Gem of a place.
We were welcomed at the door with our little dog and seated straight away.
Promptly provided with menu’s, a bowl of water and a dog biscuit. 🐶🐾
We ordered Soup and the Rarebit which was promptly bought to us piping hot.
We noticed another table had a portion of chunky chips and so promptly added to our order as they looked, and tasted delicious.
Would definitely recommend Sheila’s Cottage for its prompt service, attentive staff and delicious food. 👍👍

Came here in the evening with our two very tired dogs after a long walk in the day. The staff were very welcoming, all really friendly and our dogs were offered treats and water which was a nice touch! The food was fab, really hearty after a long day. Staff were all really lovely and made time to chat with us which really gave the meal a personal touch. Overall, really loved this place and would come back!

Absolutely fantastic. One of the best places we've eaten in the UK, delicious food served promptly with great variety.
Whilst there we tried to book the next day, unsurpringly it was fully booked! If you're in the area then I'd highly suggest booking in.
