This place is magnificent, it dates back to 1492, it has to be haunted. Chris the chilled barman was great. The view down to Windermere is really outstanding. The food was home cooked loveliness. The rooms were clean and tidy. The hosts were really friendly, breakfast was plenty. It's definitely worth a visit.

Sat outside on a sunny Sept afternoon with a couple of great beers. View was stunning. 2 RAF fighter jets passed very low over our heads, which felt phenomenal. Inside the pub looked cozy and delightful with what looked like to be good food. But its outside you should sit if the weather permits.

Great atmosphere and the guy behind the bar (a Welshman) was a superb host who was happy to chat and tell some stories about the place. We had three beers and a soft drink and the price was extremely reasonable. Sad to hear that the building is to be redeveloped so hope it keeps its charm and atmosphere.

Great pub with stunning views. We visited when it was raining but it still looked impressive. A real country pub feel. We just stopped for a drink with a big group of friends. There was plenty of seating and it was clean and nice and warm. We were served at the bar straight away. Toilets were clean. Plenty of off road parking.

Excellent little boozer in an absolutely stunning location. Incredibly friendly and chatty staff as well (shout out to the Welsh guys behind the bar in particular). Vans are also welcome in the car park opposite overnight (£3 donation in the pot). What a view to wake up to!

What a beautiful gem fantastic views, a wonderful homely welcome and good old fashioned pub grub beside a roaring fire what more could you ask for. A little piece of heaven! Was very sad to learn though that the pub was closing down as of 30/09/2022. This will be a very sad miss to locals, bikers, hikers and tourists alike. The pub has unfortunately had to be sold. The new owners however are not from around these areas just hope they can appreciate the pub for all its 500 old history with the stone floors, open roaring fire, simple ales homely welcome and good old fashioned pub grub and not turn this into a à la cart restaurant with fancy amenities.

We love this place! Our visit yesterday was our third or fourth time in the last year. The building itself is beautiful, I love the history about it, and the food is lovely. Our Welsh server was so helpful and friendly too. We've found there's usually space in the afternoon/evening to sit inside, even during the business that is staycations. It's nice to get away from the world! I would definitely recommend and we will be returning again.

You can't beat the atmosphere of a lonely inn sitting between some of the most majestic sites in the lake district. Service was awesome, the people caring for us were even nice enough to get me a whole new bottle of whisky and allowed us to use the room past check out time. Rooms themselves were cozy and warm. Small, but that's to be expected. All necessary facilities were present. Would definitely return for winter, for instance.

I wanted to visit because of the ghost stories associated with the inn - the bar attendee was so helpful to lend me a book detailing the grizzly events and even some photos of ghostly apparitions. Whether you believe or not, the whole atmosphere was homely and comfortable. We felt truly looked after and accommodated for. The food was wonderful, best I've had in a very long time. The whole evening was wonderful and warm, and I'm looking forward to returning again next time we're in the area. Thank you!

Came here after about 6 years, and was reminded as to why I love this place. Stunning views, stunning rustic interiors, and such a warm and helpful service member. Whether it's raining, or bright 'n clear, this is a MUST VISIT for the view with a cup of tea!

Lovely place to stop for drink. Friendly welcoming staff & a warm fire. Hiking spot so good to start & end a hike. They do food too but we didn't stay for a meal. Dogs are welcome too which is nice.

This is a standard stop for us when up in the Lakes, a beautiful place at the top of the Kirkstone pass. There is simply no better place to enjoy a pint with a view on a sunny day. We've been there when it's cold too and I can attest for the quality of their warming teas on such a day.

Great place to stop on the way from Patterdale to Ambleside. Lots of nearby walks. Spacious car park. Beer garden with excellent views. Decent range of local beers and tasty food at a fair price. Very cosy inside. Dog friendly.

Lovely location and excellent service. We always look forward to visiting this inn whenever we're in the lake district. We had an accident sometime back while on "The Struggle", and we ended up spending time here till the recovery car got here. t The staff were really helpful and supportive.

Make the most of this pub while you can as it's been sold and the new owners have "big plans". Been past loads of times but never stopped until now. Went for a post walk beer and stepped back in time. The pub has a lovely old fashioned feel with a stone floor, wood burners and a small bar. The beer is good - Tirril brewery, enough said. This is a unique pub, off grid and on its own at the top of the pass. I can't imagine how awesome it must be in winter conditions. Hopefully it's not going to be ruined by the new owners...

This place is temporary closed down but we stayed around the corner from here last night, the road is known for its amazing views. I seem around 10-15 campers pulled here last night. Free carpark.

Me and my wife have been coming here for years. For for a drink or a meal. Love the atmosphere. At the Kirkstone Inn And carpark over the road which is free to park you can spend hours looking up at the fells. And people climbing up.

Very friendly bar staff who have impeccable manners. Food is served until 15.00 and then from 18.00 (Late September 2022). The views from Kirkstone Pass are amazing, even on cloudy days.
