We popped in here for a coffee and scone. We sat outside with our dogs, dog water was already out. The scones were lovely, slightly warm with a fresh baked taste to them. The coffee was perfect too. It was just what we needed. The staff member was also very helpful. Would definitely call in again.

A lovely little café, there were plenty of seating options (outside in the shade or not, or a quieter corner table inside or larger low table. Staff were excellent and very welcoming, would have loved to have had a cake as they looked fantastic but we were still full from our lunches earlier!
They also have a dog wall of fame, absolutely wonderful (see photo!)

Great iced lattes, really creamy. Beautiful scones. Lovely garden area and dog friendly.

Great little cafe just off the main streets where you can get some delightful snacks / light meals and drinks. I wouldn't say everything about it is spectacular , I'm just very fond of the place. - so please give it a go and see what you think

Lovely helpful staff who showed us to a table in the large outside garden. Service was leisurely but they were busy and we were not in a hurry. Very good sandwiches with a great side salad in a little bowl and tasty coleslaw. Good value for a tourist hot spot. Felt very safe and a nice place to relax after a long walk.

The cake was great and the staff are happy and pleasant. The cafe is located centrally within Ambleside. There are steps to all entrances, however if you head in from the top of the hill there are only 2 steps as opposed to 2 full flights of stairs in from the high street. Very nice medium flowing stream by the outside seating.

Just the most idyllic spot- having a breakfast roll with the sound of water was perfect. Staff were lovely.
Had to get a mug too.. so cute- especially the one with a frog 🐸

Lovely atmosphere, set in an old mill, good coffee.
Would recommend for lunch or just coffee and cake. The fish fingers sandwich was very popular.

We had a lovely lunch with our son sitting outside. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Our food arrived pretty quickly too.

Fantastic lunch. Regretfully couldn't manage a cake as well- we will come back. Highly recommended.

Really enjoyed my time in the Giggling Goose Cafe. Lovely food and very friendly staff. Fantastic location by the river makes the place even more attractive. It is a shame about very run down outdoor sitting area and overgrown, weedy garden.

Worth a visit for cream tea when in Ambleside. It's right next to a bubbling brook, and has a water mill (it was being repaired when I visited). Service was friendly and quick, and there's a great selection of cakes. It's got a casual but cosy atmosphere, and feels like a really relaxed place. It has Destin outside for the warmer months too.

Found this down a side street and decided to pop in for a quick late lunch. I had onion and cheddar soup with a warm cheese scone and it was delicious. Menu looked great with hot and cold sandwiches along with other lunch time snacks, all at good prices (my soup and scone was £6.50) Would definitely recommend and will visit again.

It's rare that I bother to review but the outstanding friendly service while extremely busy must be recognized. Only had coffee and cake but they were lovely!

Lovely cafe for gorgeous cake and had a lovely milkshake. Really nice courteous staff.

Well where do I start.. first of all its a great location and I was rather excited to try some food there. When we arrived and started ordering it turned out that they were out of some food. Well okay, it happens (weirdly at like 1pm on Friday afternoon. ..clearly lunch time, right?). We ordered coffee, two toasties and 2 cups of soup (oh..It was £20 in total). And from there it just went downhill... soup was extremely salty and inedible, cheese & onion toastie was a joke - more like cheese toastie with chunks of onion.. ew. After our unpleasant "meal" we thought we might do this place a favour and inform staff about the salty soup and the guy behind the counter (highly recommend him to get some customer service training) just looked at us in disbelief like we were lying! I mean come on... of course no apology or refund. Absolutely shocking. Judging by recent reviews unfortunately we can come to the conclusion that this place just deteriorated. Sad. So much potential but such unorganised, impolite and unprofessional people (aka staff) are not doing it any favours.

Staff are rude & completely disinterested. We waited a long time for food which only arrived after we spoke to staff, we then had to wait even longer for the children's food, we received no apology for the wait, even the cakes took forever to arrive & again we had to speak to staff. Food was ok but nothing exciting & the menu is extremely limited. The only thing that can be keeping this place open is its location & relying on tourists who won't return.

Lovely place the cheese scones with cheese and chutney were particularly good and a must but so was the sticky lemon 🍋 cake 🍰 mmmmm. Good atmosphere and very friendly owners and staff

Excellent lunch spot. Scented garden with bluebells. An entertaining tame robin and even better lovely food. Highly recommend the suasage And the bacon butties and for afters, clotted cream and jam scone :)

Judging by other reviews it depends on what staff are working as to what your food and service are like. Our food was ok, nothing to sing about (very chunky egg mayo and a ham medium sized bap dumped on a plate not cut with a small strange mix of lettuce, couscous (pointless and tasteless) and pasta in three small piles) presentation not cared about at all. Good cuppa though. The staff ignorant and grumpy, especially the lady who served us, geez crack a smile it might help you get through a long day .... Beautiful location, ok food with miserable service.

Absolutely delicious food!! Beautiful hampers for children too!! Highly recommend this place!

Lovely lunch for three of us yesterday afternoon. Tasty sandwiches with salad, good portions and fresh, tasty bread rolls and fillings. I also had soup which was also very good. Hot and tasty.
Friendly staff and good value for money.
Their cakes looked amazing but no room left after my soup and sandwich unfortunately!

Went in earlier today trying to stay out of the rain and desperate for a coffee. Stumbled upon this quaint and cosy café. Very good coffee and if you fancy anything sweet, their cakes are absolutely superb. I had the lemon and poppy seed cake hich looked beautiful and tasted gorgeous! Thoroughly recommended to any visitors to the area. I'm in Ambleside for the rest of the week so I'll my damndest to come back!

Used to love the Giggling Goose, its so picturesque and pretty right next to the river, unfortunately the food let it down this time. They used to offer lovely ploughmans, salads and sandwiches on fresh door step bread. They've switched to multi pack cobs and no salads or ploughmans on the menu at all. My soup was tasteless and cold. The stew my daughter ordered, which didn't turn up till my husband, myself and our son had almost finished our food, was horrible, looked like mush and was served in a mug spilling over the side. There were thick slabs of cheese in my cob as thick as your finger and were inedible, it was like no one cared about the presentation of the food any more.

Loved everything about it! Cosy even outside with fleece blankets and little pillows. Listening to the brook and the food was delicious too. Homemade coleslaw omg!!! Defo going back when we visit Ambleside again 100%

Love the setting and the Food was lovely but marked it down because only one Loo and that’s in a very small lean to at the back, however it was clean and tidy. I would imagine anyone on the large side would struggle to get in it and my Wife certainly didn’t like it’s location.

Although we arrived at least half an hour before closing time and did ask if they were still serving a disgruntled little women started stacking chairs on the tables all around our table so that we were surrounded whilst having our coffee. Not very customer friendly.

Lovely little hidden gem. Beautiful setting.

A couple of years back we visited the Giggling Goose cafe for a light lunch and enjoyed it. As we were back in Ambleside today, we headed there for a late afternoon drink and cake stop. I ordered 3 hot drinks and 2 slices of cake at 4pm which took over 40 minutes to arrive at our table. There was no advance warning that there may be a wait or apology offered. One of the hot drinks was a kids hot chocolate, so I hadn't felt the need to request it cooler than normal. I should not have left it to common sense - the drink was delivered hotter than hell and the gentleman behind the till huffed and puffed when I took it back and asked for some cold milk. One of the waitresses was helpful and apologetic but it didn't make up for the appalling customer service throughout our visit. We won't be returning again
