We had a family lunch in the beautifully decorated private dining room upstairs yesterday. The three course set Sunday lunch had huge variety and everyone enjoyed all their courses enormously. And a special shout out to our waiter Jacob. He was fantastic. Warm, polite, knew who had ordered what without having to ask, always present when we needed (as if by magic) but not at all overbearing. A great waiter. A lovely lunch.

Arguably the best restaurant in Old Amersham, Gilbey's excels itself time and time again by its consistently high standard of food. Menu highlights include exquisite seafood, such as the succulent scallops starter, to a different take on the traditional (fish and chips with its own mini frying basket; a new favourite of 2014), and deliciously decadent desserts. Since our initial visit on our first date over a decade ago, to our wonderful wedding reception in 2012, we've enjoyed every mouthful of food and the staff's impeccable hospitality. A restaurant to keep going back to.

We had a fabulous lunch here on Saturday - we had the private room upstairs which was lovely and the food was excellent. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, very attentive (but not too much so) and very accommodating particularly of the 4 small children in our party! Thank you ever so much - will definitely be returning....

One of the biggest spoils I've ever had.. Gilbey's was absolutely magical. Their St. Valentines 5 course tasting menu was exceptional and they went above and beyond to ensure we had the best time! Favorite dish had to be the Sloe Gin-Cured Breast of Merrifield Farm Duck but by the time I got to that course I was so full I couldn't finish the plate! Its times like these I wish I had a bigger stomach because that food was absolutely phenomenal! What an experience 🥰🥂

A wonderful restaurant. Booking is recommended to guarantee to have a table. There are outdoor seatings. The restaurant is right in the centre of the old town. Parking very nearby. We ordered from the 2-course menu. All dishes are amazing. With the 2 courses and a drink per person, it was £30 including device. The service is great. Staff friendly and patience.

We had a lovely mid-week lunch at Gilbeys and the place was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food came well presented and we had no complaints about portion size. Both starters and mains were delicious and I would consider the meal to be good value given the location. The place is fairly small but they have made the most of the period features of the building. There's also a small outside seating area that would no doubt be very pleasant in the summer months. I don't doubt we'll be back.

What a fantastic impromptu dinner! This restaurant was so welcoming to us as unannounced guests and seated us at a lovely table. The service initially was very slow but once they realised we were hungry, they kicked into gear. We had fish cakes to share to start and they were amazing! Delicious spicy chutney base - the perfect appetiser! Main course was risotto and rump steak. OMG the rump came “tagliata style” and was absolutely delicious! As was the risotto! Salt, creamy, mushroomy, a little chalky and just perfect!! We drank a French white, which was lovely! And I snuck in a glass of red with my steak and then went back to our white. Lovely! We didn’t bother with dessert as we wanted to head on elsewhere but what a brilliant meal! In and out (without a booking) in less then 90 mins. We will be back! 👌🏻

Excellent 3 course lunch, terrine, breaded haddock and cheese cake. All beautifully prepared and presented. Slick professional service. Portions modest but fair value.

Hired the private room upstairs for my mums birthday. All party members were very impressed with the room, food was delicious and service was on point. Nothing was too much bother, our waiter was so lovely and even took time to take pictures and video's for us. This was our first visit there and we will be returning. Thank you for making my mothers birthday special.

Great place to eat very friendly staff food very lovely. but it is a bit expensive but was nice for a treat. One thing we didnt like they added the tip to the bill at 12% they say its optional but who would ask to have it removed in front of other dinners To us it should be the customers choice but it us split around all the staff

Booked the private dining room for a family gathering to celebrate my parents Golden Wedding anniversary. The room is beautiful and the service was impeccable. I had never been to Gilbeys before as we don't live in Amersham so was a bit nervous that the party menu would be of a lesser quality but these fears were unfounded and the food and wine was outstanding. Please note the private dining room is accessed by a narrow staircase and the toilets are downstairs- there is no way round this though I am sure as the building is so old. We were informed of the staircase prior to booking. I would highly recommend booking this dining room for special get togethers and I loved the pheasant ridge bacchus dry white wine (as you can see from the bill a fair few bottles were consumed!). Can this be bought anywhere online??

A wonderful dining experience. A party of 12 of us had a separate small room upstairs. We were there for a Sunday lunch and I think all of us had a traditional roast - some had beef, some had pork. I had the beef and it was very nice (as long as you don't mind the meat very rare!) (I did notice that the portions, particularly of roast potatoes, was inconsistent around the table but I did not test to see if they would have brought more on request). I started with the fishcake which was lovely but others around the table had other options which all looked delicious. My neighbour particularly enjoyed the soup. For dessert I had the lemon tart with blackcurrant sorbet which was a beautiful combination - I particularly liked the crunchy caramelised topping on the tart. The two young ladies who served us were both great. Polite, pleasant and efficient. Nothing was too much bother and the orders taken and delivered (without a too long wait) accurately. Although quite a tight squeeze (I wouldn't want more than 12 in that room), it was a comfortable and well decorated room which added to the overall experience at Gilbey's. Don't go for a separate room, though, if any of your party are not good with stairs! Well done, Gilbey's, I bet we'll be back!

Absolutely perfect meal. Sandi organised our wedding rehearsal dinner for us and communication was exemplary. We had 2 coeliacs and other allergies and were allowed to order anything off the menu and it was adapted. The service was responsive and caring and completely unobtrusive. All the food was delicious, everyone thought it was some of the nicest restaurant food they’ve ever had. Drinks were great too, especially the champagne. We couldn’t recommend Gilbeys for a special occasion more.
