Wow! What a wonderful evening being able to dine at the Axe once again. Such a warm welcome in every sense from David and Emma and the rest of their team. The interiors have been so lovingly and sympathetically restored and the food continues to be excellent. How fortunate to have such a gem of a pub on our doorstep. Thank you 😊

Excellent meal with friendly service. Unexpected and unusual to find Greek food in a very old traditional country pub in a pretty Essex village. We all loved the dessert trolley and will return again soon

Nice little village pub not far from Stansted. The village around it is really pretty and photogenic! The food was great - a bit more upmarket than standard pub food, I had trout with brown butter and capers which was delicious!

Nice pub nestled away in a very pretty location. Ample parking or park for free at the front. Friendly staff and good food. Good portions but don't expect it to be too cheap £16.99 for a burger and chips but very nice quality.

A gorgeous 400 year old pub filled with lots of brass, copper a lots of interesting nic nacs. Very friendly, helpful waitress and my meal of moussaka, greek salad and garlic bread was delicious. Well worth a visit if you like really cute, old English pubs, and tiny villages with many cute thatch roofed houses.

If you asked me to describe Axe & Compasses Arkesden I would simply have to say "consistently oustanding" I always enjoy visiting -the service is friendly and punctual, the food not only is full of flavour but is also always beautifully presented and the entire experience is welcoming and warm at all times. Without hesitation I give them 5 stars and would highly recommend anyone in the area visits, whether for a couple of pints and a light lunch or for a special evening occasion
