Reviews Gold Medal Fish & Chips

The Gold Medal is an Ashton institution and has been serving fish & chips to hungry Tameside residents for over 30 years and it's good to see it still going strong. A trip to see my Grandparents in Dukinfield wasn't complete without a trip here for meat & potato pie, mushy peas, chips & gravy (we lived in the South so this was like manna from heaven). That was in the late 70s/early 80s. Times have moved on and Gold Medal still offers a number of delicious options at a reasonable price. As well as the meal mentioned above I am sucker for a well vinegared battered fish muffin and the rag pudding is also a must if you haven't tried it.

Some would argue that it's a little cocky to call yourself 'Gold Medal'. But when you've tried the chips in here, you'll realise that they absolutely deserve it! Long known as the best chippy in Ashton town centre, Gold Medal is absolutely packed on a Saturday lunchtime! In fact, people often queue down the whole length of the shop to get their hands on beautiful battered fish, Holland's pies, jumbo sausages and chunky chips. But the waiting is always worth it. If you want to eat in, you'll find lots of tables and chairs at Gold Medal. Just get in early! As I've already mentioned, this place is usually packed!

Best in town, once they forgot my pie in my order, next order they gave free which was £15. Food yum as always. Fish bit too small n dry for me. Chips & English Curry is what to get from here, been buying from these regularly since 1980.

Very friendly and helpful staff, despite it was near closing time, they still served us and we're nice enough to give our children free ice pops due to the weather outside. Food was also really nice too!

I started to eat here whilst I was growing up in the 1980's and it was my favourite chip shop. Although its rare that I go to Ashton now during the daytime, when I do and I fancy chips this is my go to place and I actually look forward to it. Keep up the good work!

I have used this chippy since a teen in the mid 80's, I fancied an older girl who worked in there and i used to get the last serving of chips and wait for her to finish and we'd go to the cinema across the road! Been in today and the staff are absolutely outstanding, the chips are beautiful and the gravy is the best in tameside. If your not Northern and you fancy becoming so this is the golden passport. If you are northern, this is the GOLDEN MEDAL. Thanks to the staff again, your all so wonderful x and thanks for all the memories in our town, you've made my day!
