Absolutely fabulous Christmas Day Lunch. Well done to ALL the staff you provided my wife and I with an all time treat, your service was excellent and the food top dollar, the roast beef just melted in your mouth. We ate here recently & we had the fish finger sandwich, which was fresh & delicious and very happy with portion size. We also had the prawn baguette, which was amazing & fresh. Chips were also very tasty.
Lovely lunch accompanied with a couple of beers. Nice to be able sit on the green and watch the peacocks. Staff very helpful and attentive.
Ella, our waitress, couldn't have been more welcoming. She made our visit even nicer with her sunny disposition. The ingredients and menu were first rate but the execution on the night we went was just slightly lacking. I'm sure that it is usually amazing but my Barley Risotto was a little salty and the watercress garnish was yellowing. And some elements on my plate were cooler than others. We went on a particularly cool evening and as the first guests in the restaurant we found the room a little chilly. I'm sure that later in the evening it would probably have warmed up but I'll wear something warmer when we visit again. All in all, good value and great food served by exceptional staff. Will definitely visit again to give the food a second chance. And when we do, we will definitely order the Citrus Posset which was amazing!

I recently visited The Chequered Skipper pub and restaurant in Ashton, and I have to say that it was an absolutely fantastic experience. My partner and I went there for New Year's Eve, and we had an amazing time. The atmosphere was lively and festive, and the staff members were incredibly welcoming and accommodating.
We enjoyed a delicious meal and some drinks, and we were very impressed with the quality of the food and the range of options available. The service was excellent, and we felt very well taken care of throughout the entire evening.
But our experience didn't stop there. We decided to come back to The Chequered Skipper on New Year's Day for lunch, and we were blown away by the Sunday Roast. It was hands down the most amazing Sunday Roast I've ever had - everything from the perfectly cooked meat to the deliciously crispy potatoes was absolutely spot on.
Overall, I would highly recommend The Chequered Skipper to anyone looking for a fantastic pub and restaurant experience. The food, service, and atmosphere were all top-notch, and we can't wait to come back again. Whether you're looking for a great meal, a fun night out, or both, this place has it all!
Best Roast beef we've had in a long time! Absolutely brilliant food and good range of drinks too! Cosy fire and lovely staff! Will certainly be back!
Beautiful evening & ate alfresco with lovely live piano music. Food v good & service nice & friendly. Had fish curry & orange cake for dessert.

We've popped in here before for a quick lunch on a Saturday and it was clearly very popular! Paid another visit last night on the way back from picking up a trailer (for yet another BodgeWerks project). We were given a friendly greeting by Sarah as we walked in the door, and she promptly took a drink order and showed us to a table. The place wasn't as busy as our last visit but still clearly well supported, which speaks volumes. Drinks and food arrived promptly, and Sarah made sure we were well cared for. Good food, good drinks (try the hot chocolate!) and top service. Highly recommended, but probably best to book in advance to avoid disappointment!

Very very pretty location. Perfect if the weather is good. Didn't have food but i bet it would have been good. Not cheap tho.

My Wife and I have been to the Chequered Skipper quite a few times. I am just now leaving a review after our last visit on 14/01/23. We split the soup of the day and the burger. Which by the way, is good. The only thing I would prefer to be a little different is the meat to be more flat. It was more of a ball which tends to happen when the meat has not been prepped for cooking so that it does not form a ball when heated. Or it is by designed and thats what customers prefer. Either way. It was good. We have also had other meals to include fish and chips. They are very good. We will continue to eat there.

Lovely pub. Went there for a Christmas meal. The leak and potato soup tasted more like potato without any uknt of leak, but the main Christmas main was a delight. The puddings looked lovely but I chose not to participate. I had one of their mince pies later, the pasty was dry and crisp but the filling was very juicy and moist. A lovely juxtaposition.
No loud music if you are looking for somewhere quieter.

The textures, presentation, flavour and composition of culinary experience was an alround masterclass.
The staff and service were so competent and receptive to any request.
A must visit for anyone in the area to dine at this venue .
