What is not to like about this pub? Nothing. It is a great rural village pub. The food is great and at a great price, staff are friendly, efficient and welcoming. Dogs are welcome. The young lady who served us last night was serving a full pub, unflustered and quickly, which makes a refreshing change compared to other pubs. Always our first choice when in Derbyshire!

Wonderful village pub. Great food at very reasonable prices. Brilliant service and although the pub was busy the barmaid was unfazed by the crowds. Definitely recommend the Cock and Pullet pub

We had a roast lamb and roast beef Sunday lunch, it was superb! All fresh vegetables and loads of meat. The cost of drinks were very reasonable and the food very very reasonable! Highly recommend! A little advice... if your going for food I'd book a table 😀😀👍🏻

What a great find! Was looking for a day out whilst staying at Castleton, when I came across Sheldon Fete. This delightful pub in located in the centre of the village with ample parking. The inside screams "HISTORY" Lovely antiquated décor, ornate fireplace with a cosy atmosphere. Service was excellent as were the prices. The food is traditional fayre, as is the presentation. None of the mish mash of salad leaves, just an enjoyable, British old school salad selection. to accompany the wholesome and very tasty fresh crab. Will definitely be visiting again, very soon, as I was reliably informed by one of the locals, that the steak and ale pie was not to be missed!!

Wonderful pub full of character, good range of beers 🍻, lovely food 🥘 at a great price. Try and count the number of clocks, reportedly takes two days to adjust them all for winter/summer time!

Had a lovely lunch here mid walk, a lovely traditional pub with a good selection of beers. Food menu was also good including classic pub food like gammon and curries, but also healthier or more lunchlike options.

An undiscovered gem of a pub in a village often overlooked. Very reasonable priced food and beer. £3.80 for a pint is like 2020 prices. Food looked nice but didn't have any. Will return for a stop off on the circular walk through Deepdale. Lots of locals making interesting conversation. Dog friendly. People friendly. Parking at back I think and benches at the front.

Pre-planned, mid-point lunch stop - came highly recommended; not disappointed. Lovely location, nice exterior and classic interior. Cosy little bar with open fire and pool table. Had a one off-menu pie, chips, and veg plus a ‘Specials’ pie, chips, and veg - both delicious and generous. That said, still had room for dessert, which was equally tasty and generous - good energy for the second half. Highly recommended!

We stopped here for lunch whilst out walking. The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly. The pub was busy, we sat outside in the sunshine, they had a good selection of beers/ales.

Popped into this lovely pub on Sunday evening for a meal. Nice to see such a busy place both for the bar and meals. I had Steak and Ale pie and quite frankly it was excellent. It was full of tender chunks of beef, no skimping here. If I lived up this way I would definitely be going there more often. 👍

I've stopped for a pint many times but this time went in for a meal. As usual the beer was spot-on (Bradfield Farmer's Blonde). The steak and ale pie was also very tasty. Staff and locals all very friendly and welcoming.

We booked for lunch on one of the busiest wends, second meal here. We had the steak and peppercorn sauce. Was beautiful. Came with mushrooms and onions. Can honestly say was beautiful. However.... the lady on the bar needs a few people skills training 😊 😳

Felt compelled to leave a review here after my lunch visit last week having read a lot of prior reviews it was with some trepidation Either extensive retraining have been successful or the member of staff has left or it was fiction. Either way this is a perfectly pleasant decent unpretentious village pub serving big portions of hearty pub food alongside excellent ale great value. I have no issue recommending on my one visit experience

Picked this pub at random from the sat nav 'suggestions' as we were passing through on the A515 to Buxton. What a gem of a find! Tucked away in the lower end of the village it is everything I and my wife love in a pub (not a gaming machine or wide screen tv in sight). A dog friendly establishment, with wonderfully welcoming staff and good, honest food at amazing 'value for money' prices. The beer selection was also quite varied, though I did abstain due to being the designated driver! We'll most certainly be making a return visit soon.

Great food and lovely friendly staff. Really enjoyed our time there and we're sad to hear that unfortunately when we were there they were closed on the monday. Locals also use the pub and that's as good a recommendation as any one could give. Both our dogs were welcome and they were happy to offer water fir them. Worth a visit and is recommended.

How long this establishment has been known by this name I don't know, there was a time in the recent past when there was a penchant for calling pubs "amusing" names. It was however, encouraging to find it busy on a Tuesday lunchtime with not many free tables. We placed our order at the bar whilst ordering our drinks and retired to the table in the far corner. The starters appeared very quickly and whilst the garlic mushrooms that I ordered appeared to be appetising, the garlic mayo, of which there wasn't sufficient, had more than a hint of the catering pack. Next up was the steak and ale pie which came with chips, fresh veg which included carrot, cauliflower, broccoli and peas which were all cooked perfectly (pay no attention to the huge amounts of veg in the pic, my wife doesn't do veg, I'm always the grateful recipient). The pie itself while nicely filled but with only a cursory pastry top was ok with lots of meat but for me it was a bit lacking. The service was fast but the conviviality was utterly absent, OK, we're not locals but a bit of friendliness goes a long way, I know,I work in the service sector.
