This is now Thistle and Clay at this location. Rocksalt have moved away. T&C is excellent. Plastic free, fine variety of scones, highly recommended.

We loved this place so much! Staff were very accomodating - serving us despite us not having a booking and some of their kitchen staff having been off ill. Food was so tasty - we had a pizza and mezze platter and everything was lovely. Restaurant itself was also very cosy and tastefully decorated. Highly recommend!

Super tasty food in the most gorgeous outdoor area. Friendly helpful staff. Catered easily for DF/GF. Some vegetarian options but not many. Pictured is the hummus & beetroot sandwich with gf bread (amazing bread!) and also the veggie pizza!

Very busy, took a while to get served but that’s not a bad thing. Food & drink that’s certainly worth waiting for! The coleslaw with panini was delicious x

An absolute delight! Went in for a quick lunch was absolutely astonished at the choice and quality of the food. Every aspect was perfect. Price was less than expected for the amount of food we had also the choice of home bakes was great. Lovely place for a quick cuppa or a full meal. Delighted. Will be back!

Couldn't get into our usual cafe so gave this a go. Very enjoyable and the coffee was good and no complaints about the cakes either. Service was excellent and we managed to score a table next to the log burner, the challenge was going back outside into the cold again to cycle home. Will be back for sure.

Had some bean and chorizo soup with a panini. Others had a bacon and egg sandwich. A lovely waitress helped us. Would come here again and recommendation if passing through. One of the best lunches we've had in our trip in Schotland.

We really enjoyed our food. The venison salami panini was top notch and so was the Victoria sandwich. We have a 13 year old golden retriever and she was made ultra welcome. The staff are extremely friendly helpful and attentive.

Had a lovely family lunch there, panini, platter to share and pie, plenty of nice deserts also. All was fresh and tasty, we were welcome with big smiles, and service was very attentive. Definitely a place to recommend!

We spent our honeymoon in Scotland and visited Rocksalt & Snails twice during our week long visit because we couldn’t get enough! We both enjoyed our meals and the service was top notch even with a full house. We highly recommend! It’s a must visit when in Ballater.

I wish that I could take it home with me! Great food, great ambiance. Truly a place I'd want to go every day at least to see what's for dessert.

Very pleasant. Great pies, meat probably comes from the renowned butcher opposite, which will be in another review. Friendly staff and home cooked food. Alcohol if you want it. Definitely a great little place to go after a walk along the river. Nicer than other cafés in Ballater.

Hi, we were in Ballater today and decided to try out Rocksalt and Snails for lunch. I was planning ahead and popped in at 10.30am to book a table. We were seated in the window seat which was lovely, sitting in the sunshine. The young girls who work in there are so nice.....helpful, efficient and smiley (which is always great to see) The food was delicious. My husband had the Deerstalker pie (venison, bacon, red wine and lentils) which he really enjoyed while I chose the mozzerella, sun dried tomato and pesto panini, served with salad, cous cous and crisps. This too was very tasty but the best was yet to come...... We then shared a slice (more like wedge!!) of carrot and banana cake. Yum, yum, yum. It was soooo good. I rarely leave reviews but felt this place deserves a special mention. We'll be back!
