The Holestone - Ballyclare - Photo album

Park carefully in one of the gated turnouts. Bring a jacket regardless of the weather to protect your ingress. Climb the fence into the pasture. Walk around the peculiar rocky outcropping. The stone is surrounded by thorny ulex/gorse bushes; climb up on the side nearest the road. It's pretty easy. U
Interesting to see if you like looking at quirky sights. Not very big and no parking (we visited at a quiet time and managed to park briefly in a gateway). The stone is accessible over a lowish fence - you can't see it from the road but you can see the rock outcrop it's on top of. If it's wet, you'l
Absolutely Magical. On a nice day you'll see 360 degree view of rolling farm hills. This was my favourite place on our trip. Ps. The sign to the holestone points in the wrong direction.
It's a megalithic stone monument with a hole through it. In later times young couples passed a white handkerchief through it to signify their betrothal. There is no car park here and in wet weather it could be quite dangerous climbing up slippery stones to get to it.
A little hard to find but well l worth the bother, info board at site (in field) was very informative
My fave stone in Northern Ireland so far!! Love it.
Very atmospheric, great views, surrounded by whins, but there is a steep path up to the megalith. There may be cattle in the field. Access not for the those with limited mobility. Field Gate locked.
Very interesting monument. You need to take care climbing over the fence and the rocks to access it....particularly in cycling shoes!👍
Interesting place on a private land and no parking. Part of heritage places. Visit if passing by and have some time. Will need to climb the stone wall to see the actual stonehole
A strange place. Worth a visit.
Beautiful quiet place just to get away from all the hustle and bustle from modern day life. Something holy and magical about this spot.
Such lovely history. But not accessable to all as you need to climb some rocks to gain access on top
its a stone with a hole in a field
Lovely views of the Sixmilewater Valley from this historical site. Well worth a visit.
A stone with a hole in it! You'll need to climb over a gate and then walk to the rocky outcrop (20 yards) and scramble up it.
Beautiful Bronze Age stone atop a volcanic plug.
A picturesque location for an atmospheric and magical landmark.
