Lovely place… a real gem in Banbury! The food was good, but dessert was excellent, particularly the apple crumble. Really nice bright space out back with tables and sofas. The rooms were decent.
We just returned from a night’s stay at The George Inn and coming from a lacklustre experience from a previous stay, we were grateful to have been greeted by Maria who was warm and friendly. She brought us to our room and also offered to help with our bags. Our room was lovely (top floor) and was spacious and clean. Maria explained that we could preorder our breakfast and also choose when and where to have it using an order chit which we thought was a very convenient and unique system which we have not seen before. We did not have dinner but had a night cap at the bar with their own brew which was excellent. Maria kindly gave my partner a ring to let him know the bar was closing so he could get another drink in. We had a good night’s rest as the bed and pillows were comfy. The next morning, we got our breakfast delivered to our room on a beautiful tray, right on the time we specified. The food was superb and everything on the tray was well arranged and presented. We had a great time here and it is definitely a place we will return to in the future. Other bonus points: parking was easy behind the inn and it has ev charging facilities.
Lovely old pub close to Banbury. Rooms comfortable and well equipped. Staff polite, friendly and helpful. Restaurant excellent and food very good.
It is a credit to Claire and her team to present such a wonderful hotel. We stayed here in June 23 and the room and food was sensational. We would highly recommend.
Unfortunately I did not stay overnight. The food was excellent, the duck was cooked to perfection. I am gluten free and they accommodated the dishes I ordered. They had a great selection of puddings also. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.
The location was a bit out the way, don't let that put you off as its worth the journey.
Fantastic location and hard working staff. Husband booked a night here for my Christmas gift.
We arrived during lunch serving and had a drink before heading out for a walk and drive to Stow-on-the-Wold. Great location for visiting local villages and lovely little walks close-by.
Slightly disappointed with the Sunday evening menu, we should have gone for Sunday lunch which looked amazing! The breakfast was huge and used good quality produce. Room was excellent, the bath was divine and the toiletries luxurious. Even the toilet roll was posh!!
The bar closed at 9pm and the room was quiet, we had a relaxing evening and great night sleep in the super-king size bed. The matress was fantastic and we slept so well.
We took out dog with us, this is a dog friendly hotel, but the rooms were fresh and didn't smell of dog.
Room had a nespresso machine and pods and well stocked with tea and coffee.
I would have liked hot chocolate sachets in the room for a night drink and a more flexible Sunday evening menu but I can't fault this hotel and highly recommend. The staff were amazing, friendly and worked so hard.
Seafood sharing platter was quite good but I didn’t like the Indian main at all. The rice was soggy and the curry was not flavourful.
The full English breakfast was delicious, however, especially the sausage and baked beans.
The serving people were helpful and friendly. One kept touching my friend when she walked pass (many times) which I found amusing.
Fantastic service from arrival to departure.
Friendly service, extremely welcoming of us and our dog, no fuss regarding dog (no extra fees etc or difficult rules) we were able to eat in the restaurant with the doggy, and also eat breakfast with him which was ideal.
The food was very high quality for dinner, with a choice of traditional or a la carte, incredible cocktails (we’d recommend the Margherita and the Bloody Mary)
The room was very comfortable, a garden room with high ceilings, underfloor heating and a large double sinked bathroom.
Breakfast was exquisite. Beautifully set out, great choice, individual mini milk bottles which we loved(!) and a very generous full english breakfast. We also had a Prosecco and bloody mary delivered to us (we were on holiday after all!)
Doggy treats were readily available on the side table in the bar area, and the George has the most stunning garden at the back of the pub.
Very high quality experience, with equal quality of staff customer care. Any small issue we may have had, the staff were quickly on hand to resolve efficiently and effortlessly.
Since this was a small 1 night stay between our camping trip (expecting a strong gale!) we were mightily impressed and intent to return.
Now, off we go back to the tent…lets hope its still up…
The George Inn is well situated in the beautiful Cotswolds, close to interesting venues like Blenheim Palace and the Batsford Arboterum. The 16th century inn has been nicely renovated into a small and charming place. The rooms are quite and comfortable, but the food is simply excellent, with sufficient and tasty choices if you prefer veggie. I can highly recommend the homemade ravioli, covered with some small and tasty flower petals, which looks like a impressionist's painting and tastes like real adventure.
Had a lovely overnight break at The George with my late Mum in August. The staff were very friendly, nothing too much trouble and food and drinks were served promptly. The pub is so nice and cosy with plenty of choice on the menu and cooked to perfection. We stayed overnight in one of the outside courtyard rooms. I was worried that we might have been kept awake being near to the outside terrace of the pub but all quietened down by the time we turned off. The room was done out very nicely, comfy bed, gorgeous bathroom and the breakfast in the morning was amazing - good choice of hot and cold options. It was the last trip with my Mum and we really did have such a lovely, memorable stay and I would happily return at any opportunity.
Fantastic Sunday lunch, unmatched, for us, by any other place we've been.
There are a number of tables along an interior wall that are a little too close together for my liking but it seems to be the norm.
Home made proper food here, well worth a visit.
I only review good accommodation and this Inn was one of the best places I have stayed at. Lovely food especially the breakfast. Only one downside was that my stay was only 1 night. Hope to come back soon.
A lovely stay at the George. Very comfortable room and a brilliant breakfast. Will definitely stay again.
A fantastic, welcoming and cosey pub. We had the pleasure of staying next door to this smashing pub, and it made our stay even better. All the staff were super helpful and couldn't do more. We returned for breakfast and my wife and I can hand on heart say, it was the best full English breakfast we have ever had.
We will certainly be returning when we are back visiting family.
Keep up the good work.
