My husband treated me to a birthday meal at Boccellis on Friday 1st June and we were very impressed. I had mussels with garlic and chilli in a tomato sauce for starters and fillet steak tagliatelle for mains, while my husband had King prawns for starters and chicken stuffed with crab meat for mains, all cooked fresh and served straight to the table, the owner recommended a Fanio white wine from Pulia which complimented the food very well, everything was delicious. After an ice cream dessert the owner gave us a tour of the restaurant and explained the history of the building when it was inhabited by the monks. we ended the evening with a complimentary limoncello liqueur. We will definately go back.

My family and I had an amazing meal this evening. Despite being short staffed the proprietor took time to come and chat to us as he took our order explaining that we would have to bare with him as this wasn't his normal role. Its a family run restaurant with mum behind the bar and the daughter waitressing The food was amazing. Unfortunately I live down south so won't be a regular visitor. When I come up north to visit family I will hopefully come again

I'm not sure if there is a lift to accommodate disabled people. We loved the fact there were no dogs allowed. We find them unruly, noisy and smelly. They should never be where food is anyway. We heard a conversation about a steak someone had ordered. The chef needed to get it right and came to speak to them. Well done. We were near a speaker for the music so it felt a bit loud but at another table maybe it wasn't. The only real slight complaint was the potholes in the car park. I have a problem with my neck so potholes don't help. People with a sore back might also feel this. Overall a good experience. Our food was cooked correctly and delicious. Thank you.

Came from the US for 2 weeks and would have to say the best meal I’ve had on this trip. The Chicken Shawarma was amazing. Everything I had was great. Everyone we came with enjoyed it a lot. The place looks amazing and the history was so rich and interesting. I would highly recommend and looking forward to coming back on our next trip.

Service, food and staff ALL amazing. We’ll definitely be back! Special thanks to the staff who helped us discover more about the history of the building. You can definitely tell they love and care about the site which was so wonderful to know such a precious piece of history is in great hands.

Sunday lunch was lovely, but you really don’t need a starter as you do get plenty for your main, starter I had was Jack Daniel chicken and was a bit overpowered by the southern fried chicken taste, would highly recommend as it does have a lovely feel and staff are so friendly

We visited here last night on the recommendation of one of our friends. OMG the food was Amazing! Really beautifully presented and everything tasted soooo good. If you like history too this old building won’t disappoint you, it’s steeped in it! Would highly recommend if you love good quality food. The service was great too, a couple of our friends were delayed in bad traffic but I felt the waiting team did all they could to ensure we could all eat together! We will definitely be back. Thank you!

I haven't been to this place since 5+ years ago when it was under a different name and management. Back then it was okay, but I weren't in any rush to return. After seeing some nice reviews lately, we thought we'd give it a go. The building is beautifully presented, you genuinely feel like you're stepping back in time. The food is decently priced, with 15% off the entire bill on Wednesdays and Thursdays, which is a treat. It isn't the longest food menu in world, but what it lacks in variety, it certainly makes up for in quality. If the menu changes seasonally throughout the year, I'll certainly become be a regular. Quality wise, you couldn't really fault the food at all. The chef seems to know what they're doing and takes pride in the food being served. There's not a lot of Vegetarian options, but I'm assuming it wouldn't be an issue to swap a couple things out to make them Veg friendly. There's a decent selection of drinks on which are fairly priced, including some local spirits and beers too. The main up for me was the Fallen Angel rum A premium spirit and perfect nightcap. The main highlight was the staff. It's a rare delight to get enthusiastic, attentive and genuinely happy staff in most places around Barnsley. The waitress seemed to love her job and making sure everyone was happy. She'd chat to people after their meals and seemed legitimately interested in the people and what they had to say. We will certainly be back. Thank you!

Lovely meal, had starters and main courses for 2. Only took photos of mains as the starters looked so good that we just tucked in! Halloumi starter and belly pork which were both amazing. Chicken sharwarma and chicken supreme for main were really good couldn't fault it. Service very good 2 staff who were very attentive, friendly and efficient. We will go back and next time hopefully have room for dessert. Also got 15% off so brilliant value for money.
