Review The Filling Station - Bellingham

Enjoyed their outdoor seating. Looking for a burger place with boozy options, you've found it! Great cocktails and the food was the bomb! Lots of sauce options for the thick, twisty fries. Happy hour options too! Pleasantly surprised by this "burger joint" and will definitely be back!

Food was great. Their cheaper burger option looks small, but it fills you up. To be expected, with their company name. Fries were fantastic and the burger was tasty. Server was super nice. I got the coffee milkshake, which has bits of coffee bean in it (I liked the thought, but chewing my milkshake felt odd). This was an affordable and yummy meal, considering what you could pay at other places in the area. Of course, you can get nicer burgers here with more ingredients, should you be willing to spend the extra money. Will be back.

Fun place to eat lunch. Excellent customer service, everyone who worked there was having a good time!! Laidback environment with great music. Craft cocktails available, ok draft beer list but only 1 cider. The juicy burgers and fat curly fries were deliciousness!!

Best cheap burger I've had in a while. Service was excellent and the decor was fun to look at. Definitely worth a stop.

Burger was very good. Love the fries and onion rings. Service was awesome.

If you feel like good food in a casual setting. This is the place to go. I had the mustang burger with fries and a vanilla milkshake. It was delicious and messy and filling. The waitress went above and beyond and was very friendly. They even check you out right there at your table. Parking was a bit tricky. It's on a hill and it's a busy restaurant so I had to go around a couple times.

Went with a friend and had a really nice time. The burgers were amazing, but the chocolate milkshake was worth writing home about. We even got to sit outside and soak up the evening sun!

Great food, great service, great music. We had the salmon sandwich, a burger, and some onion rings, all were stellar. The sides must have been frozen from a bag, but still awesome, crispy and perfectly fried. My salmon sandwich had a lot of nice layers to it. 5 out of 5. Highly recommend

We stop by to have lunch on our way from Seattle to Vancouver. The service is good and the food also taste good. We ordered burger, although looks small but it is really made us full.

Good food, good service, and good variety: overall, a good place to enjoy a burger and fries. And they’ve got bottled soda, which is always a treat!

I was looking for a new burger joint that wasn't a big chain restaurant that I had eaten at time and time again. This place was perfect it, the decor was like that of an old school diner. The music was great and the service was quick! Now let me tell you this place had the best ranch dipping and best burger buns yummmmm!!!! This 2 things seem small but I do believe they make all the difference in the world!!! I will definitely be going back and back again!!!

Awesome food and excellent service! Best chicken burger I've had in a LONG time...very nicely done and the rosemary ciabbata bun was the cherry on top. Highly recommend this place!

The food was amazing! I got the thunderbird(regular cheese burger) add bacon and it was the best burger I've ever had! The bun was delicious, soft, and tastes fresh straight from avenue bread! I can only imagine what the other burgers taste like! Can't wait to go again!

This is a very cool place. Lots of gas station memorabilia and vintage stuff. Great surroundings, friendly staff and excellent food. Highly recommend the onion rings. The burgers are amazing.

I went for Happy Hour and would definitely recommend it. The chili cheese fries with the Station sauce were delicious, and went well with a pint of local beer. I am downgrading my review since the service has really gone downhill. Too bad. I really liked this place.

Definitely a great lil spot in the historical town of Fairhaven...situated on a street corner, this place has a very cool vintage gas station feel with cool antiques and memorabilia. Our server was really nice and attentive. He also made a great recommendation for the Chili Fries to go with the beer

Had a great time, and good happy hour menu with the bloody mary bar. recommend!

I came here for lunch one day and ordered the black bean quinoa burger. It came over a large salad with homemade ranch. The food was good healthy and the service was very friendly. The atmosphere here is awesome and they serve Boundary Bay beer on tap. I'd come back.

Decided to try a new place. No wait. Great food. Fast appetizers. Great burgers, salad, and floats. Kid friendly. Great staff. It's cold inside, but that building has always been cold. We look forward to returning. Sloppy Joe Sliders are mildly spicy. The kids loved the Junkyard appetizer. I had the Volt salad (BEST salad, great flavors) my husband ordered a burger with BBQ, bacon, and coldslaw. Friendly server.

As if the friendly service weren't enough, the food here is also sublime. Any of the 4 fried chicken burgers are sure to please. And don't forget a dip stick or two to start. Did I mention the DIY Bloody Mary station? Well worth the 5 minutes from I-5.

The American burger was great! The "tire shreds" (fried) were great!! If you live burgers, fries, and great drinks, this is your place!

Great food, good beer selection, and friendly staff, and the decor looked like something my dad would have put together. The perfect low-key date night.

Burger was cooked well, but lacked distinct flavor. More than half the place is a bar, making seating extremely limited... Not great for families with kids if it's a busy night.

Delicious meal!! Had the Lamborghini Burger!! So good! Love the decor and service was fun and efficient!

Great food! I had the chicken fried patty stuffed with mozzarella and mariners sauce on seasoned 5th Ave bread, and yummy curly fries, no grease. The service is friendly and fast. This was our 2nd visit and we will definitely go back again.

I really enjoy the food at the filling station when they get the order correct. For some reason my order, never my husband's, always has an error. I really enjoy the salads there, but the crew tend to forget toppings and dressing for some reason it means we have to drive back after arriving home to pick up critical ingredients. When I order the Prius salad they ask if I want the black bean patty or not, even though it's included on the menu. Sometimes when I've ordered if I don't specify that I wanted they excluded it. Not sure if I've paid for something that I haven't received, which isn't great. To their credit, the last time we ordered takeout and they forgot my salad fixings, the manager actually drove to my house and dropped it off, which was great as we had a newborn and were exhausted and starving.
My husband is a meat eater and greatly enjoys the Jaguar, which includes bacon jelly. He has tried and does not care for any of the chicken dishes or the lamb. It is surprising to me that they have so much chicken on the menu.
For true indulgence, get the junkyard. They are spiral potato wedges or tire treads as they call them and onion rings are spectacular. My husband is a big lover of shoestring fries, so everybody wins.
Overall this is a place that I recommend to my friends and family, time and time again. It stands out as one of the better burger places in Bellingham, on par with Fiamma Burger and just as pricey. Speaking of prices, I wish they would show their pricing on their website. Makes it hard to know if you are being charged correctly when you order over the phone. As a parent of an infant, I don't get out that often, so take out accuracy is critical. I will continue to go there because I'm in love with their food, but I wish they would improve so I could give them a full five stars.

For the overall experience, Filling Station's definitely worth coming back. Feels like an industrial diner without the breakfast as for sure, it's a burger joint from a blast in the past, with its cool automotive antiques, that seems to be the menu theme with burgers named after infamous cars, Thunderbird and Mustang.

The winners:

Deep fried zucchini: tasty winner, lightly seasoned & battered, with 2 dips.

Rumble Special: instead of bun, their own sourdough very nicely breaded with cheese on the outside, amazing sauce; more avocado than patty, great combo though

Just OK:

Chocolate milkshake: definitely more vanilla, nor sweet enough...would've been nice if server asked if I wanted whipping cream & chocolate sauce...wouldn't recommend if you're a true milkshake connossieur (Wendy's Frosty is even better)

Mustang: while more meat, the bun was way too soft. But plenty of swiss, mushrooms & onions...

Fries:meh.

Came during a slow Sunday around 1:30 on a Easter weekend, maybe I got lucky but Donald was really helpful, and fast.

Great atmosphere, get my table facing the water.

Great, clean washrooms.

This place is awesome!! Really good food and options for every appetite. I love the atmosphere. The staff were friendly. There is not another place like this in town.

My wife and I have eaten at this new restaurant twice, on Friday and Saturday at 6 PM. Very crowded and noisy. Service was mixed, fine the first time, not so fine the second. Our first visit we split the El Camino Burger, and it was good, cooked to the requested medium rare. The unusual fries that come with the burgers were quite good. The second visit we decided to try the Jaguar Burger, an interesting-sounding burger with blue cheese crumble, bacon-onion marmalade, tomato, arugula and roasted garlic aioli on a salt and pepper potato bun. Neith of us liked it. The burger patty was overcooked, and the mix of blue cheese, bacon-onion marmalade and roasted garlic aioli didn't work together. The beers we had were delicious -- a Chuckanut Pilsener and a Boneyard IPA.
We would give it a rating of 4.0 for the first visit, but only 2.5 for the second.

The Filling Station takes the place of the old A W Asian Bistro, which was a quite good Asian restaurant, although it seemed to be going downhill in recent years. We were excited to try this place, since it’s owned by the same folk that own the Avenue Café restaurants in Bellingham. While not full service restaurants, Avenue Café offers wonderful eggenues and a good variety of tasty lunch items. We like it a lot. This place is a full service restaurant, including a bar. Here’s the short review. It offers very good burgers at gourmet prices with a menu that is minimal at best. In addition to burgers and traditional sides, you’ll find a hot dog, grilled cheese sandwich, salads, soups and a little fried chicken. They do have salmon and vegi burgers, and will serve their burgers bunless. That’s about it.

Now on to the details. My wife ordered the Mustang Burger with Classic Fries. The burger had Swiss cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions and sauce. She ordered it with bacon, but it came baconless. No big deal. She got the bacon gratis and liked the burger, except that it was over sauced. Her burger (and mine) was cooked perfectly to medium rare. I had the El Camino, with pepperjack cheese, avocado, jalapenos, corn chips, lettuce, tomato, and a poblano aoli sauce. Very good, but also over sauced. We disagreed about the fries: she rated them slightly below average and I rated them a little better than average. At least they weren’t limp. I also had a side of coleslaw, which was bland. Neither sweet nor tart, it needed some kick and some flavor, but at least it wasn’t swimming in dressing. There was one nice touch- a topping of sunflower seeds.

So, we came with high expectations, but left somewhat disappointed, even though the food was pretty good. With our meal, we each had a pint of something on tap, and the bill came to $36 before tip. For that kind of money, I can think of a number of places in Bellingham that I would rather go to for a burger.
