An incredible historic pub that I hope remains open for another 686 years! We sat outside and enjoyed the view across the beach, tentatively watching the tide edge closer together to eventually maroon us (if not for the sea tractor!).
Because we sat outside there was a mandatory £2 deposit per plastic cup which is unfortunate, I do prefer my beer in a glass (who doesn't!) but I understand why this is enforced.
Friendly staff with good sense of humour. Love the idea of the refundable plastic cups to save items being broken and encourage them to be returned to the bar. Food was very reasonable and tasty
The pub is great the staff are friendly and I learned a lot and the wooden statue in the corner date's back to the 14th century. There is also an amusing original paper sign of the rules of the lodge one of which is, no more than 3 in one bed.
Idyllic setting on the shore of Burgh island. Local beers and cider at normal prices, surprising given the setting. Quick friendly service but beware the £2 deposit on each glass ( plastic) if you want to go outside, a pain if there's a queue when you've finished
Very old inn dating back to 1332, with a fascinating history of fishermen and smuggling. Plenty of interesting features. Good beer and friendly staff. Small inside but adequate seating outside. Beware of getting cut off by the tide, and of plastic glasses when drinking outside.
Had an amazing meal in the pilchard. What a setting, walking across to an island steeped in history for your supper, nothing better. The service was impeccable, the food was even better. A great selection of local beers too. Surely nowhere better in the area. My only complaint is that the tide coming in stopped me having an extra pint!
Fantastic 12th century pub. Staff really friendly and food and drink was smashing. The along the beach on low tide was stunning and journey back on the sea tractor was idyllic. We will return soon.
The best fish and chips I have ever had!!
We went in and ordered, it was busy as lunch rush so expected but the lady behind the bar was friendly. We sat outside so were giving a disk to collect our order when it flashed ready. Our disk didn't work but the waiter came and found us promptly with our food. The fish and chips were seasoned perfectly and a nice size portion. I would recommend this quirky pub with amazing fish and chips to anyone in the area. The fish and chips were about £14 per portion but the prices you expect to pay for an island and definitely worth every penny!
The Pilchard Inn is just amazing a truly splendid place, the staff are amazing and the service is perfect. They were very kind and attentive to my family, they were very accommodating to both of my terrorist children and my dangerous wife and seemed to understand the suffering of an innocent man... This is a georgous place and perfect for a meal and few drinks. Definitely the best thing about Burgh Island is the Pilchard Inn and the fabulous staff, a place I would recommend to everyone and will definitely be returning too.
Went in the 70and 80 holiday as kids, and been back since. I just love the place. . Went in the pilchard inn about 15 years ago. Took loads of photos inside the pub. And not one turned out. "Old school" camera back then. The ones outside were ok....
Spooky.
What a lovely pub, you can walk over the sand bar about two hours before or after high water, or get the tractor if you really need a drink. Remember they only take cards, no cash!
