Review The Grouse Pub And Chinese Restaurant - Birch Vale

Friendly owner, good service. Sour spicy soup was good. Had a Kung po char siu and a ginger spring onion beef. Other than being too starchy, the food was well prepared. Very English takeaway style, not exactly Asian Chinese style but it was good for what it is. Would recommend it.

We were sent here through recommendation from Carol at the Waltzing Weasel for late night food. We were blown away, a wonderful quaint little bar, with extremely friendly staff. The food we had was amazing too - the portion sizes are huge! We ended up getting our salt and pepper chips to go.

This is a local treasure. It's a great old Robinson's pub that has not just survived but thrives by re-inventing itself as a fabulous Chinese "restaurant". The menu is extensive and really great quality food in our experience. My wife & I have just eaten there on a Sat night and it was busy, cosy, & very inviting. We had a pint first off and then took a table and sat and gorged for around 90 mins or so - lovely!! Highly recommended.

Interesting combination of pub and Chinese restaurant works really well. Everyone there was very friendly. Portions were very generous! Kung po chicken was not what we expected, was crispy fried chicken in sauce. Would recommend the duck, black bean and salt and pepper chips (which are very spicy). Loved the funky lampshades!

I didn't know right until now, that you can blend pub functionality with restaurant. And you know what? It's well executed! Food was.... Undesirable. Never in my life I had such a great and well prepared squid. With spring onions and ginger. Combine together in perfect rations. Enough for one or for both. And there's rice. Well prepared and cooked. What you're asking is what you get. Did I mention about seaweed? Well prepare to be amazed! And there's staff. Well organised. Always there. Doing everything they can to make you feel special. 5 stars earned. After more than 30 Chinese Restaurants in Derbyshire County I've been, this is my new ' simply the best!'

Had a lovely meal last night, our first visit and really enjoyed eating chinese food in a pub listening to Bruce Springstein instead of the usual mindfulness type music, plus great service and great friendly staff, perfect!
