We decided to have our work meal here after ive been bragging about how good the food is here. Its safe to say Imran and his team exceeded our expectations and done me proud, all 25 members loved their meals. The order for such a large group was out to was without a hitch! Well done guys

After my partner suggested we try out a few other Balti restaurants in brum, to see if they can beat the Balti’s here. Its safe to say we are back at the Royal Watan!! Definitely the best Balti in brum

What a discovery was this place, we visited on the off chance as our regular restaurant has closed (Al frash) but this restaurant was 5 stars in every department. The meal the service & the menu knowledge was superior. We have officially found our go to restaurant.

Decent enough food Was a bit noisy due to party but didn’t spoil the meal The restaurant is a dry restaurant although you can bring your own alcohol how ever they don’t have any glasses other than wine glasses so be prepared to drink your beer from a can or wine glass

We used to come to the Royal Watan regularly 25 years ago, but moved to Torquay 20 years ago. The one thing we do miss about Birmingham are the genuine balti houses. Anyone who has ever tried a Birmingham balti served on a cast iron wok will know what I mean. Naturally it has changed quite abit over the years. We went on a Friday evening about 7.30ish and it was packed, but didnt have to wait to long to be seated. When we went, there were loads of kids, and it was really noisey. The lights were abit to bright for my liking. The waiting staff were polite and helpful, and eveywhere looked clean. But what you really want to know is, "Was the food good", Well yes. Its the same as 25 years ago. The only thing with a restaurant serving consistantly good food is It can be a victim of its own success, and can get very busy and overcrowded. My recommendation would be to phone befofore you visit and ask for their quietest times.

I booked in last night for 8.30pm, on arrival the restaurant was very busy we were seated and our servers were very helpful & always smiling. The atmosphere was nice (not loud) music was just right, what I love about this place is the vegan options. The staff always go the extra mile for you.

I have been to this restaurant on a number of occasions & have never been let down, they have coveted all bases. They do not cut any corners, reason why they are always busy. Recently i took some fussy family members & they were all impressed with the food & service thank you guys.👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

we went here as a group and im glad we ore booked as the restaurant was very busy. the guy on the phone booked me in and was very professional. once seated in a small booth we were asked to make a order. our food took a while to arrive but we didn't mind this, however the wrong food came out and when questioned the waitress had attitude and said she double checked my order and was my fault. now the dish I wanted was my favourite dish so I know I ordered it but she made me feel uncomfortable so I let it go. when it was time to pay the bill I was charged for starters that had not come out. when I questioned it she said why didn't you tell me and my response is I didn't want to be called a liar again. they did remove the incorrect dish from my bill but with a lot of some eye rolls. to be hon eat I would love to go back just for the naan bread and the food was devious but I would only do take away after this experience. disappointing service great food.

Following the reviews here on TripAdviser we made a special visit to the Royal Watan and we were not disappointed. The staff couldn't have done more for us; we felt immediately at home. The food was unexpectedly some of the best we'd tasted: full of flavour and well cooked. We're only in Brum for a few days but we're already thinking about coming back again :)

Great Service but food is very poor, even after requesting to make it hot all dishes were sweet, I went there after seeing lot of positive reviews but it’s not for me .

A very good curry house with superb Nan and a delicious variety of curries. My wife had Nava Ghosht the lamb melted in your mouth, the kashmiri fish starter was superb so was the mixed grill. This is now our go to curry house. Service was also refreshingly good and pleasant.

On return trips from London we usually stop for a curry en route to Merseyside. The Sundarbon was a long-held favourite, but on this occasion we were perturbed to discover that after many years it had closed down - and appeared to have been replaced by a Chinese. The Royal Watan wasn't a major diversion - but was well worth the effort. Firstly, be aware that the Royal Watan is unlicensed, but the Esso Garage 60 seconds away does a roaring trade in takeaway beers. But the food is excellent. The Balti curries were very tasty without being overly fiery, the tarka dahl was very, very good - and even the rice was tasty! The nan bread arrived on a hook and is a huge. Staff were helpful and charming, and all in all the impression left was very, very favourable. We now have a new Birmingham stop off point in future.

My friend and I went a couple of weeks ago for the first time. Service was good and particularly liked the family recipes on the menu. Enjoyed what we had and would definitely return

This was our first visit to The Royal Watan - it was great. Excellent food (banging balti, delicious 'dad's specials' and enormous naan bread) and lovely service from genuine, well informed staff who gave their time to talk to you even though the restaurant was very busy. Thank you for a great meal - we will definitely be back!

Spent the weekend in Brum and decided to go here as it was only a short drive from our hotel. Service very good through out. Menu is fairly large but doesn't have much in the way of descriptions. Not being from the area there were a couple of dishes I didn't recongise. Its a BYOB place as well if that's of interest. We just had some soft drinks although they do give you a bottle of table water as well. Bhajis and Lam chops for starters- Chops were a bit tuff but tasted good. Curry's both excellent although I would have expected mine to be a bit hotter but it tasted good. Rice and Nann good although by the end the Garlic in the Naan was a bit overpowering Price came to £37ish quid which was fair value for portion size and quality. Didn't blow me away but very good overall and a bit different to the type of food we get in Manchester and as I mentioned before the service from all the staff was very good.

Visited this place after reading the TripAdviser reviews and was not disappointed. Please note. If you want alcohol you have to take your own. Very friendly staff. Prompt service. The food was served fresh and hot. It was very traditional and full of flavours with obviously fresh quality ingredients. There were four of us, each with different dishes and they were all delicious. One of the party was vegan and there was no difficulty in her ordering food. Excellent value for money for what we ate. Would certainly return.

I thought it was a pretty typical curry. Nothing particular. Not sure what the rave reviews were about.
