We celebrated our friend’s wedding anniversary at this place last weekend. We were totally impressed by their service and we were surprise that the kitchen can produce quality food. However, the place was quite busy and the service was slow but the waiters were friendly. I would suggest if you go, don't mess around and just stick to the steaks. Highly recommended.
Best steak in Birmingham.
Clearly getting a reservation wrong, leaving customers waiting almost an hour for a table would be wrong. However the staff are so charming and the steaks so good they were almost immediately forgiven. We were treated to sweet scallops on puy lentils cooked to tender perfection. Beautiful porterhouse with shallot sauce. Chips on previous visits have been superb but this time were not as crisp on the outside. Wish we had room for dessert!
Formerly a favourite haunt of mine "The Bucklemaker" a rare achievement to take over a place, change a great deal and become a new firm favourite. Friendly efficient service and great quality produce, making for an excellent place to go and eat well.
Best Sandwich in Birmingham! Been coming here for 10 years! Consistent and impeccable quality. I've already smashed my sandwich so took a pic of the last remaining but lol. Keep it up!
I'd been meaning to try a sandwich from here for a while and it did not disappoint. I had the Parisian sandwich and it had a lot of filling and the bread was great as well.
I will definitely be back to try some of the other sandwiches.
Fantastic place to visit for a handmade sandwich, I think there's about 6 to choose from, but we always go for the superb New Yorker. Also stock a great range of delicatessen foods. Highly recommended
A good charcuterie should be comfortable. Anderson & Hill, like Lichfield’s Cheese Cavern maximises the floor and ceiling space. Filling it with a raft of delights to nibble, snack and gorge on. At the checkout there is a beautiful display of meats, cheeses and antipasto. Being a lover of cheese, the accommodating patron assisted me in choosing my cheese. The cheese was thoughtfully packaged and cut to my preferred size. A Relaxed and enjoyable experience.
Excellent gourmet food. Recommend the Parisian. On the expensive side but the quality is very good. There is a single table just outside, so you might not get a seat. They have selection of original sourced goods. So if you want something a little special.
I've never really been to such a 'select' location as this. My girl took me there. It reminded initially, due to the decor, of an upper class general store from the early Victorian era and as such I felt entirely out of my comfort zone.
I was very wrong. It's a great deli with an excellent assortment of food and fine produce from all over the world. I had my girl with her exquisite taste to guide me; but it was relieving to know that the cashier was knowledgeable and more importantly approachable.
Absolutely lovely sandwiches. You get a very good size sandwich for your money too, which is good. Also have a good selection of cheeses to buy! Lastly, they sell cannoli's! All good from this place
The best sandwiches in Birmingham! The Bavarian is a firm favourite. Always found the customer service to be great. Not a gripe but long queues have in the past put me off, because it never moves quickly. I suppose that’s a consequence of the sandwiches being so popular
Beautiful little shop offering the most delicious sandwiches but also all things cheese and charcuterie, coffee beans, pasta you name it ❤
It was time for a good raclette ! So I went to the shop for some very good and tasty raclette cheese ! Despite been served the wrong cheese at the first time I have been very well attended by the owner at the second time and been served the famous raclette cheese ! Very good Italian dry meat too !
Not sure where these 1* reviews have come from, every member of staff when I come in are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and always friendly. One of the best deli shops in the UK, let alone Birmingham. Will is passionate and cares for the job he does and it clearly shows. Nothing but the best, If I could give more than 5* I would.
Every once in a while I get to work near Colmore Row and the best thing about those days is that I get to treat myself to lunch at Anderson & Hill. Given the high quality ingredients used, I really don't think there's a better value lunch option in the area. Soup & half a sandwich (half a sandwich is still huge!) is my favourite - I've just this minute finished the best broccoli & stilton soup I've ever tasted in my life.
Absolutely incredible sandwiches. I've been searching for a legit sandwich place for the last three years after leaving the US, and I've finally found it. Ridiculously delicious ingredients.
We had arrived around 4pm and they had run out of bread but they walked next door to buy bread from the neighboring bakery so we could try their food. They did this without hesitation and it was an endearing gesture. I'll be eating here as often as possible.
I was strolling down Great Western Arcade, hardly hungry, not intending to stop, when I caught sight - through the window of Anderson & Hill - of two expert sandwich-makers practising their craft with such grace and elegance that I was literally pulled into the shop.
Upon seeing their extensive dairy selection, I immediately ordered a cheese toastie. For good measure, I ordered their vegetarian sandwich too, made by an extraordinarily helpful person called Alice, filled to the brim with artichokes, olives and sundries tomatoes. The bread for this sandwich was not too hard, resisting only right at the end of the bite without pushing the ingredients out of the other end of this absolutely delicious product. The cheese toastie was simply the best I’ve had, a mixture of Red Leicester and cheddar with a sweet pickle that caramelised slightly in the toasting process (which was long enough to actually melt the cheese). Thanks to both of the workers today, I’ve rarely had a lunch as satisfying as this.
beautiful traditional cheese shop, nice range of cheeses, friendly staff and helping to choose the right products, will visit again, highly recommend
There's a great selection of products and their pork pies are lovely.
A gem of a find, I have never noticed this store tucked away in the shopping centre before. A lovely selection of cured meats and cheeses that I have struggled to find elsewhere. The man looking after the store greeted us as we came in, made us feel welcome and patiently answered any questions we had. I also found the prices to be reasonable considering the high quality. I will be back when I visit Birmingham again.
