La Plancha nestles neatly in amongst the other restaurants and bars on Moseley’s high street. We arrived shortly after it opened and were ushered on to the last remaining table. It’s all dark wood and low lighting – romantic, perhaps, under different circumstances. We browse over a menu that has seen better days and plump for a selection of dishes to nourish the soul which my friend Greg will eventually pick up the bill for. We order two glasses of good red and toast the passing of a great lady. Others were making the most of the cocktail happy hour. For us it wasn’t that kind of night.
Good points and bad. OK, in no particular order.
Freezing in winter as there is no heating other than a fan over the entrance door.
Tapas is tasty but very expensive (anyone who has been to Spain will agree) and I have seen staff buying the bread from Sainsbury's Local opposite!
Excellent cocktails and the draught beers are well kept.
The owner is very gregarious.
The two long serving bar staff, hmmmmm. The pretty girl is miserable and moody. I have never seen her smile. The aloof male is, well, very aloof.
Good atmosphere in what can become a tightly packed bar.
Moseley benefits from this bar and it is worth a visit. I do feel the tapas is over priced and the bar staff need to improve their customer service techniques. If you want much better food (again not cheap) head to Byzantium in Kings Heath.
Overall 7 out of 10.
The Best Tapas outside of Spain. I am from Madrid and I have to say that La Plancha is the best Spanish restaurant that I have been to outside of Spain and I have eaten in a good few outside of my country. The food is authentic and the staffs are very friendly. The place is cosy and great for a romantic night or a night with friends to celebrate. The prawns in garlic are excellent and so are the lomo. I highly recommend La Plancha. The owner Carmel is a very pleasant person and I would say the hostess with the mostess. I will be defiantly be going back and I will taken my family when they come this summer.
Amazing food, great atmosphere and plenty of cracking booze male for a fantastic night out!! Thoroughly recommended!
Wonderful birthday celebration with the family! Amazing cocktails and fantastic food. The whole of our party had an awesome evening! Thank you, to the brilliant, attentive staff that looked after us. Would highly recommend visiting.
Beautiful food and great friendly service as always. Make sure you get a cocktail or two. Highly recommended.
First visit to La Plancha and will definitely be back. They have a fairly traditional selection of tapas dishes in the standard menu, plus a variety of specials to choose from. We had some excellent chorizo in cider, baked goats cheese, hot honey prawns, anchovies, meatballs, pork loin and paella. Nice small wine list at very reasonable prices. Cocktails looks good, but we didn't try. Excellent value
What an amazing experience, it was raining heavily and even though the restaurant was closed the really lovely tall gentleman ushered us in and let us in for an hour until 5pm. Best tapas ever. Give it a try if you haven't. Lovely atmosphere and great customer service x
Great place in Moseley if you like tapas. The food is amazing . I would have given 5 stars but the last time we went we were asked to pick everything we wanted at once because they were closing earlier. But will be back again.
Love this tapas restaurant, great dishes. The chicken in red wine is spicy, the vegetarian paella is a tasty rice dish and the patatas bravas is crispy potatoes in tomato sauce. All fantastic. Lamb koftas are filling and delicious.
Best tapas restaurant I have tried.
Great night out with friends. Delicious food, great portion sizes good enough to share between two or more. Very reasonably priced. Comfortable relaxing venue with a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended
We had a meal on Thursday evening. Ordered the calamari, chorizo tortilla, lamb kofta and the patatas bravas.
We were surprised by how quickly the food arrived provided that the restaurant was fairly busy.
Our favourite dish was the lamb kofta, I highly recommend it.
Service was quick and efficient and the prices are reasonable.
La Plancha is definitely worth trying if you are in Mosley.
A lovely little tapas place in the middle of Moseley. Close to the main car park and several nice pubs for pre-meal drinks. Great selection of food, reasonably priced, prepared quickly, very tasty, good cocktail menu. Friendly and helpful staff.
