Really amazing food. Familiar and surprisingly different food. Cozy place, lovely service and amazing value for money. Have the Taiwanese night market food. Go now!!!
Amazing food and amazing service. Chef cares about what he serves and accommodated our needs for gluten free
Well decorated and nice atmosphere. Great food and service, I would recommend.
Soooooo good! The food is fantastic and the team are so friendly! Definitely worth a visit!
Freshly cooked Taiwanese food and very friendly staff in a trendy environment. Will come back soon.
This doesn't come more natural than this 100 percent pure food nothing artificial all natural ingredients
Really nice place to eat. Recommended! Fresh fast healthy.
Nice decor, friendly service and very very good food!!! A welcome addition to the area!! We will definitely be back!!
Delicious food
I have been here for three times.
Excellent service authentic Taiwan food! Had a lovely time with friends!
We were a table of 9 and the food came out in good timing. Staff were fantastic and served us with a smile 😊 food were delicious I recommend everything. The starters were decent size and the mains were big!
The mixed grill is a deffo, please go for it!!! If you think the mix grill is too big then go for the beef short rib only. It was cooked to perfection 😍😍.
We enjoyed the sesame salads and wasabi okra salad. I enjoyed the miso seafood udon as well it was creamy and had decent amount of prawns and squid😍
Honestly, we ordered so much I am in food coma while writing this 😂
This is my second time to visit and try the authentic Taiwan and Japan / Korea cuisine.
To be honest, I got some trachea discomfort.
However, waiter and waitresses ( boy speak mandarin, girl speak Cantonese), they are super nice and proactive if there is any need during the meal. Of course the smile and CS skill is quite good standard.
For the food, they are in good standards and you will want to try them next time . Yummy
The music and atmosphere is also fantastic
You can soaked into the chilled and relax feeling very easily.
I like this restaurant and would highly recommend to people who will visit Birmingham China Town.
Hope next time I can visit again when I go to Birmingham ♥️
Appreciate all the staff hard work .💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻👍
I went there mostly every week after I finished work during the weekend. They have varying Asian cuisine food such as Taiwanese food, Korean food and Japanese food. Moreover, the price is very friendly for students as well.
I'm visiting Taiwan soon, was in Birmingham and asked Google for a reccomendation... "There's a Taiwanese restaurant 200m ahead". Though the place was busy (18:00 Tuesday), I was instantly welcomed, advice in choosing from the extensive menu given and service was swift, with a smile. I had the braised beef w/noodles - very tasty sauce, and Winter Melon Punch - a first for me - again very tasty. This solo visitor was properly looked after and I can't understand the negative comments about the staff given in some other reviews. Prices were reasonable. The only downside for me was the choice of music - then I must have been more than twice the age of most of the other diners - so I guess it's a generational thing. I'll be back.
Was served by Jacarenda (apologies for poor spelling). We had beef noodles and chicken and curry. We also tried takoyaki and chicken skins for starters.
Really yummy food, very light. Sometimes it can be acquired taste but these flavours were yummy even if you’re not used to Asian foods.
Service was excellent, came to check on us and have a chat and even asked if we were happy to use chopsticks.
Fabulous place to eat and spend good time on Birmingham's map. Food was super tasty (great Tofu!), so many interesting options to chose, big portions and super nice service. We were welcomed and served by Jaconda(I'm really sorry if I spell it wrong xx): outstanding, super warm and very very helpfull. Me and my friends will definitelly come back! 👍
Sorry forgot to take photos. Food and service are good. I can’t see any staffing attitude problem.
But I dislike the strong oil smell. I think they need to improve the ventilation. Moreover, the tables are sticky.
If you love Taiwanese food, you have to visit, small shop not many seat. Braised beef noodles taste great, soup is rich, beef tender and soft, a little too heavy for some people, if this is the case, pick thick cut braised pork on rice, another brilliant choice.
It may take a wee while for the food to come out but it's worth the wait. Pretty authentic from what I can gather and everything we had was tasty.
Staff was on point ,toilets were clean and it must be one of the most reasonably priced restaurants in Birmingham .
Staff are great and probably under a lot of pressure as it's always busy so give them a break if the service isnt up to your standard.
Formosa Izakaya in Birmingham is a Taiwanese culinary gem. Their beef noodles are a revelation - tender beef, flavorful broth, and perfectly cooked noodles create a harmonious symphony of taste. Each bite transports me to the bustling streets of Taiwan, with an authentic and high-standard rendition of this classic dish. The attention to detail and traditional cooking methods truly set Formosa Izakaya apart. What's equally impressive is their reasonable pricing(£9.5), making this exceptional experience accessible to all. In my culinary journey across the West Midlands, Formosa Izakaya stands out as the epitome of Taiwanese cuisine. For those seeking an unforgettable and genuine Taiwanese dining adventure, Formosa Izakaya is the ultimate destination.
We went for dinner because we used to see the place always full and we were not disappointed. The food was very tasty, the service was very good with the girl being very friendly and making good recommendations. The price was less than we expected to spend and we ate to our heart's content. Excellent place, we will definitely be back.
both cuisine and service are spectacular yet I have reservations for management approach. I arrived around 14:00 which is like the ending period of lunch time while the restaurant is full house with customers waiting outside to be seated. What shocked me is that there is only one server throughout the entire (full housed) restaurant which he needed to simultaneously handle the tasks of a host, a waiter and a cashier. Obviously he was overwhelmed despite working at his fastest speed while the overall performance can hardly be considered as efficient. I am not criticizing the server as he demonstrated unimaginable tolerance and delicacy and the cuisine worth the wait. However, I strongly doubt that the restaurant should allow customers beyond their handling capacity to be seated and served (Including myself) not only because it would reduce its efficient but also it would burn out their employees both physically and mentally which is unideal for customers, employee and revenue in a sustainable way. Advices for potential customers, feel free to bring high expectations as there would be no disappointment yet please also bring extensive patience as the restaurant is remarkably understaffed.
Interesting blend of various East Asian food cultures that works well in some cases but not so much in others. The good news is that the dishes are very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity you get.
