On a recent stay in Birmingham, we had dinner and drinks in the Malt Shovel. It was a lovely pub, and the food was very good and very reasonably priced, The barman Ethan was so friendly. He made us feel very welcome. It makes such a difference when staff are friendly and chatty. We would definitely recommend paying the Malt Shovel a visit.
Lisa the waitress was very helpful, regarding me not eating meat, Lisa went out of her way to get me a fish dinner which was very lovely. You can have a chat and a laugh with her. The dessert is wonderful, im having a Strawberry Shortcake Sundae
Brilliant carvery this afternoon. Staff were very helpful and a great choice of veg. The meat was so tasty and overall a hearty meal. Me and my family will definitely return. Such great value and service. Thanks again

Didn't get off to the best start, stood at the bar to order for 5 minutes before someone served us. Then walked through to the restaurant side of the pub to be waiting again for another 5 minutes to be served food, all this even after the staff saw us waiting. The place was empty at 6pm on a Tuesday.
Anyway, once the person who cuts the meat arrives we got served , 2 nice slices of meat gammon and turkey, helping yourself to vegetables plus bubble & squeak. Got to say the meal was absolutely delicious the gammon was not salty, and the turkey was moist and tasty.
I would definitely recommend this place for somewhere to eat.

Had a roast dinner via a “Too good to go” app. Really like this idea not to waste food and the price is affordable. Like. Surprisingly the food was still warm when we picked it up and if there was gravy to go with it, it would be perfect! Most importantly, this dinner was enough for 2 people. Like.
We visit quite often, varied menu of pizzas, burgers, fish & chips. Carvery meals. Loads of offers on throughout the week and on the app.
We also enjoy the unlimited breakfasts, these are really tasty and you can add unlimited tea & coffee too.
Nice place to meet up with friends and relax or bring the family and have a night off cooking and washing up.
We've booked a few wakes here and the staff have been marvelous especially Lisa who looks after everyone, lovely cheerful lady who takes the time to make sure everyone is okay.
Absolutely love bringing all my family to the malt shovel. Visited with my Grandson who's 7 months, my grown up children and my Great Aunt who's 84 and we brought the teenagers of the family.
Something on the menu for everyone, pizza, burgers but I enjoyed a traditional carvery of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, lovely hot fresh food!
Lisa our lovely waitress found a table with plenty of space for my wheelchair and fetched my Grandson his highchair, nothing is ever too much for Lisa, she's always on her feet running around to give everyone a good experience.
She lights up everyone's day with her beautiful big smile and you can hear her laugh all around.
All the Kids had bottomless ice-cream with toppings and juice.
Fantastic family restaurant and really great prices.
We all come as often as we can and Lisa is always on hand to help whatever the need, service with a smile, good atmosphere, great hot fresh food. Who could ask for more?
I love this place. My friend and I were regular customers at out local Toby until we stumbled across this gem! The food is so fresh and they serve real creamy homemade mashed potatoes (no packet mash here) food is always hot and really tasty and it’s much cheaper than other carveries. Staff are super friendly. Paul the chef is great. He’s really friendly and is always willing to cook me a vegetarian alternative to go with my veg selection. Bar and serving staff are also really friendly and helpful and this creates a great atmosphere overall.
As carveries go, this was an extremely nice meal 😁
Maybe it was just the time that we all went up to get our food, but everything was cooked really nicely and absolutely nothing was either over or under cooked or cold. I'm not a huge fan of carveries but I have to make an exception in this case as all of our meals (party of 12) went down really nicely.
The staff were really nice and helpful and I would definitely go back to the Malt Shovel again for a carvery 👍

Love this place. Great food. On the expensive side but great quality carvery. Maybe be a bit more generous when carving to justify the price 😄 . Otherwise best carvery I've ever had . Great bar staff and plenty of people keeping things clean and tidy 😁
Oh but don't forget the fabulous pizzas my son loves !
