Other reviews are spot on about this place and Tara the owner. We had the loveliest lazy lunch in her cafe yesterday. The food was all cooked to order and we could tell from the locals popping in that she, and The Chai Shop are a popular part of Bishops Castle life. Looking forward to returning very soon.
Excellent food and the nicest lady who really seems like the heart of the town. Had some lovely chats with her and her customers. The best samosas and curry we have had and the rice was lovely. Husband doesn't really like rice but he had 2nds. Took a takeaway back to our campsite.
Loved the chai too. Wish we could have fitted in a cake. They looked really good 😍
We were staying in Bishop's Castle for a few days and got food to take out from Tahira on our first night there.
Tara was lovely and great to chat to, all the food was freshly made and tasted lovely. Good selection which changes every day and a lot of vegan options. Didn't take any photos as we ate it too quickly 🤤
Would highly recommend it.
Returned recently and Tahira remembered us, which was lovely. Food was lush as always.
Tiara is the perfect host a very astute lady who can converse whilst cooking your meal fresh in front of you. The food was devine a mix of vegan and meat dishes everyone loved the food. We recommend the all you can eat optional you can try all the amazing food!! Home made vibrant chutneys home, made cake and lovely coffee. The whole place is spotless and it is take you own wine too. Our favourite place in Bishop's castle!

So lucky Tara is so close. Booked a special birthday meal for 6 & picked it up fresh & piping hot with huge home made samosas & bages. We had 3 curry's that I chose~mutton, chicken & vegetable with aubergines, rice & chutney & raita thrown in. Tara does offer banquets which she lays out for you & washes up at your home but we managed ourselves! The cafe itself is cosy & displays all her beautiful art work. What a talented woman. 👏 🥘🍲
Delicious homemade food and good chat. Tara went out of her way to make me feel welcome, even though she was about to close. It was like having dinner in a friend's kitchen. Fantastic vegetarian options, too.
Delicious, freshly made Indian food, served in a cosy, characterful little cafe. We were too late for the famous samosas (once they're gone, they're gone!), but the onion and spinach bhaji were incredible, served with a really tasty homemade chutney and yogurt... as if that wasn't enough, we had also ordered some veggie curry... I was worried I wouldn't have space after the brilliant bhaji, but it was soooo flavourful, I cleaned my plate! We'll be back soon!
Stopped for the loveliest fresh samosas and Chai. And owners are so welcoming with lots of good info about the local area
My favourite place to eat in Bishop’s Castle and there is strong competition. Take away tonight, including two lamb Samosas to die for, a veg Goan curry including peppers and beans, a mutton curry, dhal and rice, topped off with a jar of Tahira’s home made chutney (I think partly plum, and out of this world with the samosas). So tasty, and much better (and much less oily) than Indian takeaways I get at home.
Went on a whim and it was so good! Onion bharges were delicious and rhechicken curry with rice was even better. The woman who runs the shop, Tara, was very friendly and had a nice conversation with us while we waited and ate. Definitely recommended
