Me and my wife stopped here four years ago for lunch and it was amazing. Lovely, quiet and quaint and as we hadn't been up this way for a few years we forgot about it.
Roll on today driving home for York we decide to stop for lunch instead of driving through. Googled the nearest place and thankfully turned up at the same pub. The atmosphere is still the same. Quiet. Relaxed and lovely. Amazing staff and brilliant food. Couldn't ask for better.

Only a quick stop off during the day for a light snack and a pint. Lovely exterior including large fenced rear garden with covered seating. Service was kind and polite, food was prompt and delicious, good pint and decent price. Really nice spot. And most importantly, well appointed and spotless toilets! Always a good indicator.

Possibly one of the best “pub” fish & chips we have ever eaten. Beautifully cooked food, relaxed and friendly environment and a lovely, historical building. Well done for what you are doing here - we will definitely be back on our next trip up the A1.

we arrived 1:45pm on thursday after hiking. the place was only had a few customers. we all ordered the mixed grill. I also had the treacle sponge with custard. the meals were OK.

Absolutely Beautiful Food and service, nothing was too much effort as I asked to change the contents of my meal. The Mixed Grill and Steak Pie are to die for! Don't think, just do it! You won't regret!

A great place to visit to order a carvery. A good size portions of meat and help yourself to vegetables. Also lovely deserts. Will come back here the next time we come this way.
