Really enjoyed myself at this restaurant and loved the food. I had the mushroom starter, the pork to main and the crème brûlée for dessert and couldn’t fault any of it! Service was great, our waiter had a sense of humour and at last minute switched out table to outside without any complaints etc. will visit again.

I recently enjoyed a Sunday roast at ‘The House by Hilly Gant,’ and it was outstanding. I had the roast beef whilst my partner had the Nut roast. It was the best beef I've had in a long time, cooked to perfection. And my partner couldn’t get enough of hers either! What made the experience even more special was the fantastic service from Suzanne, our friendly waiter. We never felt left awkwardly waiting to order or pay for the bill and she was a pleasure to talk to also. The cozy ambiance added to the charm of the place. Highly recommended for a top quality Sunday roast!

One of the best places in Braintree. All round 5 star. Lovely old building well kept and nice decor. Service is always excellent here and staff always very friendly. I've eaten here a few times now and everytime have been impressed. Lovely meals made by great chefs. Very reasonable prices too especially considering how good the food is. Would definitely recommend this place for a nice meal out.

We had our Wedding celebration at The House by Hilly Gant. Suzanne and Sam (Chef) couldn’t have been more helpful in the planning stages and really helped pull together an amazing menu to satisfy many different requirements. On the day Suzanne, Harry and Sam (FoH) and the team in the Kitchen were amazing. The upstairs rooms looked fantastic, the food and atmosphere was perfect and they really worked to make our special day even better. Our guests had a great time, loved the ‘Classy’ venue and laughed and loved together Thank you so much to the whole team! The House is a special place to us and they knocked the ball out of the county! An absolute gem!! Note I couldn’t find a way to write a new review, so have had to edit my original one :) The Fillet and Pave potatoes are still amazing and we’re my choice for the wedding too!

I really liked this restaurant. Excellent ambience, great food, friendly staff, and convenient to get to from Braintree station. I had a delicious fillet of beef and a banana tart tatin for dessert. I highly recommend it and will certainly be coming back.

Lovely restaurant! My boyfriend and I decided to stop for lunch after we saw so many good reviews and we haven't been disappointed! The atmosphere is cozy and elegant at the same time, I loved the way they furnished the venue. The food was great, we had the fried calamari and the mussels and … wow, everything was great! We had the steak and flatbread as mains and were delicious. A big thanks to our waiters Harry and Milly, who made our experience absolutely perfect! Highly recommended!

The food was amazing. It worth the price. But we thought the atmosphere was cosier and it was bottomless drink (noise) and music was loud. The local looks so cool. We'll give another try other day and fingers crossed we can find the cosy environment linked to the local.

Lovely first time here. Warm welcome by all staff. Risotto - finally a restaurant that served this to us on a warm plate ! Goats cheese & beetroot, it was excellent & warm to the last mouthful. Our other choices were all very good, presented well & the tasty Chablis cold but disappeared far too quickly, lol - but another bottle helped us through !! Perfect size servings, giving us the choice to do 3 courses. Tarte tartin & creme brulee hit the spot. And I must mentioned the parmesan truffle chips - a definate whatever your food choices !! Very highly recommended ✨️

What an absolutely amazing place. Great atmosphere, beautiful vibe, lovely staff. Table was ready on arrival and the wait between courses was nice and short. Harry was an absolutely delightful server. Thank you for a memorable evening.

What can I say….We held our wedding dinner and impromptu party (!) on the mezzanine floor and had the time of our lives with our nearest and dearest. It’s been a pretty special place for us as we dined at the House by Hilly Gant to check the area out before moving from London and so as we were having a small wedding of 22 people we felt this was the best place to have our wedding. Suzanne and the team could not have done anything more to make our afternoon and evening so perfect. The food was outstanding and our guests were very impressed - Harry and his cocktail making skills are second to none. Huge shout out to all the kitchen staff who’s attention to detail and timings were spot on. Leading up to the day itself Suzanne took charge and offered her expert advice on how to dress the room and made so much effort with our requirements. (3 children and 1 baby as part of the guest list!). The beef in particular was spectacular and the chocolate fondant was sublime. We honestly didn’t want to leave. After dinner Suzanne was able to crank the music up and we had a little party ensuring all the guests downstairs were still well looked after - our friends were actually dining downstairs and were able to join us towards the latter part of the evening! From the bottom of our hearts - thank you so much to everyone for making it so special for us. I’m not surprised that you were recently awarded your second rosette, totally deserved. For anyone looking for quality food, locally sourced, and beautifully executed this is the place to come. SEE YOU SOON and thank you again x

First time dining at Chophouse and our table all loved the food. The steak was one of the best I've eaten out. A local restaurant with a great atmosphere and great service. Most restaurants these days add on a service charge and surprisingly they didnt. We wpuld always tip regardless but it is always good to have the option! I'd like to thank the manager Louise who resolved a small issue that occurred after I left the restaurant. She was very professional. I look forward to returning again soon!

Cosy restaurant with fabulous food, beautifully presented in good sized portions. The chocolate fondant with pistachio ice cream is a truimph! Great service, comprehensive coctail/drinks menu and wine list. Prices high for the area, hence 4 stars.
