Always a warm welcome......hearty food, great ales, fantastic views of Skiddaw from the beer garden, dog and children friendly and a perfect starting point for walks in the north western fells.
Brilliant staff they make the stay so welcoming especially Sam & Pam who make staying here amazing nothing is a problem to them - 2nd time we have stayed and we are already looking forward to returning- the food is wonderful and a fantastic selection of gin and ales !!! A great relaxing place to stay

Wonderful hotel with most friendly staff
Excellent and welcoming pub/hotel. Its quite large but manages to maintain a balance of feeling like a local pub but catering to many guests as a hotel. It has an excellent side bar made out of wood which is intricately carved, and a larger room for people to eat and drink together. Large open fores in each room make it lovely and warm. Food is generous portions and good.
We didn't stay here but can confirm that this friendly hotel serves good fayre. The food was generally tasty and the well-kept real ales on tap when we visited were superb.
Clean, comfortable room in a gorgeous setting and stunning view. Staff were very friendly and great service. We would have booked an extra night but Storm Kathleen scuppered our plans.
Didn't stay at the Inn , but was recommended by our host at the Hermiston that all the local eateries were good.
Went to Coledale Inn by chance furthest away. Was treated as if we were staying guests. Food was great and atmosphere pleasant. We decided to go back the following night and was so well received that we went back there they whole holiday for our evening meal.
Well price, varied choice of food taste and friendly service.

An absolute gem! Wonderful stay here. Beautiful room, spotlessly clean and well equipped, comfy bed and lovely bed linen. Food was amazing, staff all super friendly and nothing too much trouble, can't wait to return.
Great little place on our route around the lake. Tucked away up high in the village, the portions are fantastic and the food very tasty. We came off Catbells and we were eating in less than an hour as we walked here. Didn't need to book in the afternoon on this occasion. Dog friendly and full of walkers.
Lovely rooms and helpful staff. We have been coming here for many years for food and drinks but this was the first time we stayed in the hotel, so not sure what to expect but weren’t disappointed!
Booked a table at short notice on Friday evening. Welcoming staff, delicious food and generous portions. Our dog was welcome too! We walked from the nearby campsite and although it was our first visit we hope to return again soon.
We have been to the Coledale Inn a few times over the years, but never in the Autumn/Winter months. The decor for a Christmas lover was brilliant. I didn’t manage to get enough photos but it looked great.
The food and service was excellent as always and the location in Braithwaite is one of my favourite if not my favourite places in the Lake District.
In summer the beer garden is excellent as well. 5/5 for me.
Really nice country inn in the lovely village of Braithwaite. Access to the famous peaks direct from the hotel. Also handy for the Whinlatter Forest Park. Rooms warm and comfy. Lovely food. Breakfasts excellent. Friendly staff. Highly recommend - but be aware there is no lift and if you end up on 2nd floor (3rd if you are US) you will have quite a step up with bags.
Great place to stay. Nice rooms and the breakfast and food at the pub is great. Especially the Sunday roast!
Great place to stay when hiking in the local area.
Rooms are a good size, with pleasant decor, small negative shower 🚿 was not very powerful but plenty of hot water.
Staff were helpful friendly and very efficient.
The meals were good honest home cooked food with very generous servings.

A truly well located Inn. The room was large and they allowed my dog to stay with me. The food was really good with great vegetarian selections. The staff were all very helpful and efficient. I would like to return as soon as possible.

The Coledale Inn in Braithwaite was a great hotel. Service was excellent and staff very friendly. Guests were mostly hikers like ourselves and we had many a great conversation. The trail up to Barrow Fell is just up the road. Location is ideal for exploring the local hiking trails which is what we were there for.
Braithwaite town is small with just another pub (good fare) and a restaurant (we walked out without ordering due to their ‘minimum order value per diner’ policy) and small store, but 15mins drive to Keswick. The outdoor courtyard was very nice to have a drink and enjoy the views.
Our rooms (2) were a reasonable size for an older establishment. Beds were reasonably comfortable. Our room was on the top floor and our water pressure was not great. Bathroom and shower was tiny but manageable. Our kids’ (19 & 17) room was in the annex and theirs was a little better. But the water was hot so we managed ok.
Breakfast was either toast and cereal or the ‘full English’ (bangers, bacon, beans and egg). Perhaps some other options such as waffles etc would be good ? Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.
We usually stop here after walking, the setting is very nice. Large garden area with plenty of seating at the front. We've not eaten here but the early menu on until 16:00, the food looks amazing. Will be trying the food next time we go.
Dog friendly pub a short walk from where we were staying. Food was delicious, if a tad expensive, but I guess your paying for the location. Good choice on the menu, I just wanted a light bite so had the choice of 2 salads.
