Islay House was phenomenal! Everything from the common areas, to the rooms, to the food, to the people, were just lovely! We will be back in the future for sure, and we highly recommend Islay House. Finding the property was a bit tricky due to Google maps providing incorrect directions, but once you arrive, you'll fall in love.
Stunning Hotel in a lovely quiet location. Professional, friendly and attentive staff.
Excellent choice for breakfast, ranging from a delicious fruit smoothie to a full Scottish breakfast with all the trimmings.
Evening meal menu, although some may say there should be more choice (3 options for each course) I was very happy with all the seafood dishes. Fresh crab, smoked salmon, scallops, mussels and halibut. The beef was melt in the mouth delicious too.
The hotel was spotlessly clean and the beds and pillows super comfy.
A well stocked whisky bar just made the stay even more perfect :-)
Myself, my wife and two friends had dinner in Islay House two nights ago and the meal and service was excellent. Our food was hot, tasty and plentiful, the waiter and barman were attentive, polite and respectful, and the setting perfect. In these anxious and uncertain times, we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. A great venue for that very special occasion.
My wife and I stayed here for a night on our honeymoon, our only mistake was staying just the one night!!!
The chef, David, is incredible and his food impeccable, a true master of his craft! Everything is handmade and sourced from the island, to include vegetables from their garden.
Lesley’s knowledge of whiskey’s and their history will never leave you disappointed. She always has a great story to tell as well, an endearing conversationalist.
Finally... Jane, the head of house, gives the entire establishment an air of home-style hospitality. We felt as if our favorite aunt had opened her home to us; she is a spectacular host.
I hesitate to even write this because you never share a secret; BUT.. to not would be an injustice to these wonderful people and this resplendent house. This will be our destination in the near future for all our Scottish adventures!!!
To holiday in port ellen and not stay in this hotel is a big mistake!. We stayed 5 nights last weekend on the occasion of my husbands 70th birthday. The hotel, staff
and food all reached the very high standards I thought they would! We had a very special time in a very special place, thank you all. We will return., hopefully, soon
Came here for afternoon tea as a special treat for a family member. Friendly, professional service and with generous portions of tea/coffee and food. From what I saw the hotel is extremely posh and comfortable. They've done it up really well.
We couldn't have been happier with Islay House. We stayed here for a few nights around our elopement in the spring and everything was absolutely perfect. The rooms are beautiful and our bathroom was majestic. Heated floors and beautifully decorated. The whole house is full of beauty and charm. It is set on a lovely piece of property with a great view! Breakfast was delicious, standard Scottish breakfasts for us every day. Dinner was so delicious and we felt like we practically had the place to ourselves. This is one of the few Scottish Malt Whisky Society partner bars so their bartenders know a lot about whisky and their stock is unparalleled.
Calum was amazing and took care of us for our short time with him. He made sure the groom was comfortable and relaxed while the bride was getting fussed over. He was always up for the challenge of finding us a whisky that we would enjoy, that we had never had before, that was difficult or impossible to find back home, and that paired well with whatever we were eating or doing at the time. He was so nice and welcoming with advice on things to do or see. He even was genuinely interested and excited about our elopement. We did some pictures there on the day of the ceremony and he was on hand to wish us well before we headed out for our big day. We couldn't have asked for a better person to take care of us during our stay! He will be the reason we recommend Islay House to others and the reason we stay here when we return.
Incredibly friendly staff, wonderful location, fantastic house with tons of atmosphere. Bath has even floor heating! Outstanding.
Beautiful hotel. Great breakfast.
But be warned of the „pink lady“ (the „white lady“ is „just“ a ghost, but the pink lady is real!). She is sometimes seen even during daytimes and her (pretty much like any staff members’) passion for customers and the old mansion may potentially infect you and you will become a fan.
Thanks Rhea, for a beautiful visit and tour through the house! Your breakfast is awesome.
Had a wonderful time at Islay House. Beautifully refurbished old manor style house with very large and very comfortable rooms. Had dinner there twice because it was so good - chef knows what he's doing! Breaky was awesome - good spread and great traditional Scottish options. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Bar has a pretty impressive range of whiskies - including the regular flagships, a wide range of more rare bottles and even a couple of their own bottles from their own Bruchladdich cask!
Islay House is a must stay location. The house has real charm and character and the food is superb. The staff are very attentive and welcoming and went beyond the cause when I left my phone behind on departure when a very kind member of staff (Julie) made a dash to the ferryport to complete a last minute handover. Who could ask for better customer service!! Do not miss out on this gem.
Amazing hotel. We came here for our honeymoon, and it was perfect. The room was beautifully appointed, the hotel staff was gracious and friendly, and the bed was super comfy. Close to anywhere you want to go on Islay. Absolutely wonderful.
We have stayed here for three nights and it has been amazing. The place just has a certain magic about and we are pretty gutted to be heading home tomorrow. The bar area is really cosy and comfortable and perfect for just relaxing in at night. The staff here have made the stay even more special, always on hand and more than helpful. Especially Robert, Bobby and Humera.
The food is the best we have eaten anywhere by a long shot, and that’s no exaggeration. We cannot wait to return here in a few months. We just wish that we had booked for longer this time around.
During our honeymoon we staid at Islay House and it was really great. The rooms were so beautiful, the service was very good and the food was absolutely delicious. I think we will come back for our anniversary.
Stunning property on a stunning island. We received a warm and friendly welcome from all the staff, rooms are impeccably appointed and the food was great. As was their Whisky bar! If you are visiting Islay, you should stay here, if you are not visiting Islay, well you should.
A really amazing building, very comfortable bar area and stunning food. Couldn't have asked for more really. Super helpful staff as well. We managed to get a room just by walking in which was a life saver...definitely worth a look
Very friendly and helpful staffs.
Fantastic breakfast and dinner.
Good whisky collection.
Beautiful surroundings.
Highly recommended
We stayed here on opening weekend over Easter and we had a lovely time. We stayed in 'Sorn' room on the lower-level. Nice space, big room, accessible shower. The main lobby and the bar area are amazing and the staff is great! Delicious breakfast and 2-3 course dinners with a nice garden and walking paths nearby. It's about 30 GBP taxi down to Lagavulin, one way.
