Amazing. It's not cheap, but you pay for quality and excellence here. This is my second visit and both times have been phenomenal. Excellent staff on hand to serve you and the food is melt in the mouth You need to book to avoid disappointment. Sunday lunch available until 4pm but check the website. If you are having a sharing steak then go easy on the starters, unless you are very hungry or can eat loads. Will return.

We were a party of 6 and every single person thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The steaks were cooked to perfection! The staff were lovely and accommodating and it was the perfect ambience for birthday celebrations. I am sure we’ll return!

This is one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. We travelled down from London to celebrate moms birthday and it was such a fantastic experience.
Tucked away on a little side street, this restaurant from the service to the decor was full of little surprises.
The staff were super friendly and so patient in explaining the menu. The food when it came was 10/10. Absolutely superb!! I can’t express that enough. The steak melted in the mouth, the mash, Mac and cheese and Brocolli were some of the best I’ve had in a restaurant.
The only thing that let it down was the amount of flies near the door BUT it was a super hot day and I can’t imagine it’s easier to deter them from coming in and out. This is not a criticism of the restaurant but obviously still impacted the experience.
I will definitely be back!

One of my favourites, in terms of meat 🥩 despite their rather expensive (for me wallet) sharing menu, the food is great and cooked to perfection, and definitely worth a visit, even if on a special occasion.
We tried the sharing Chateaubriand meat that was cooked (medium-rare) perfectly 👌🏼 bear in mind that each day, they have sharing pieces with different weights (for the sharing menu), and you may end up need to get a different weight than you thought you would want to.
Worth to mention, swapping they triple cooked chips and get their starter 🌟 Tuna Tartare 🌟 and their Mac&cheese as side-dish. You will not regret 👌🏼
The staff is very attentive and pleasant, and you don’t wait much for ordering, or getting your food.
Booking should be made in advance, otherwise risk of not being able to get a table. They will need your card for booking, to avoid last minute cancellations.
They have a small deserts menu (and deserts paring wine) but what would be more than enough. We tried the crème brûlée, which despite small to share, was delicious.
The only notices that I would make: poor wheelchair access, difficult parking around (possibly in the shopping car park), only having one Portuguese Red wine in the menu. They also add a discretionary 12.5% service charge to the final bill that can add up quickly to a rather very good tip.

Fabulous prime rib steak!! Thought the 1kg size might be way too big for the two of us, but it turns out that we have literally finished it all!!
Thanks for the birthday candle & wishes! It was a very pleasant experience:)

10/10 on everything! It’s a beautiful restaurant with great food and ambience. Service was great as well. I totally recommend it and can’t wait to go back. Only thing I might suggest is to introduce some ambient music to further enhance the ambience.

Was an hour early for our lunch reservation, but the team were accommodating and welcoming. Came to celebrate my daughter's graduation and it was the perfect lunch to celebrate with.
The food was delicious and cooked well. They brought out a little celebration ice cream cake, which was a lovely surprise. Service was impeccable and we were well looked after. Thank you!

One of the best spontaneous decisions I've ever made, the food was unforgettable, every course was cooked to perfection.
I highly recommend the Sea Bass, Pork Ribs and steak.
Thank you guys for an amazing time.

Overall it should really have been a 5 star, however the service was pretty slow and they charged me an 18% service fee on top of the already highly priced meal for the slow service!
Oysters... Delicious
Steak... Cooked perfectly and very delicious
Cauliflower... Delicious
Brocolini... Delicious

Cute and nice place in the center.

We took two fillets, the meat was very soft and well cooked.

They have a good selection of wine.
The writer were very kind and made us do a small tasting before choosing the bottle

Strongly suggested

Rock on - this is the business. Serious cooking at Brighton's finest new restaurant. My expertly grilled steak had me hooked from the delicious first mouthful. If you're in the area and fancy a fine nosh up then this is for you. Spread the word.

Fantastic Grill - Just Opened!. I visited the Coal Shed, by chance, on it's opening night and being a real foodie I was excited to try somewhere new. I would highly recommend a visit to The Coal Shed. The atmosphere is very relaxed and warm - partly reflected by the decor and partly by the owner's approach. The food speaks for itself. You must try the 9 spiced lamb chops, the Rib Eye (I had it with Harissa butter), the chips are incredible (being married to a Dutch man I consider myself quite the connoisseur), as are their own version of the baked beans. But the best bit about the meal - the incredible value.
We shall be making a trip down from London in the next couple of weeks especially to eat at The Coal Shed again.

The Coal Shed bills itself as “specialists in grilled meat and fish,” and while I’m sure our aquatic bretheren are admirably represented – the head chef was, after all, poached from the aforementioned Riddle and Finns – it seemed to me to be really be about the meat and, more especially, about the steak. You don’t, after all, install a £18,000 Josper oven in your kitchen just to cook sea bass.

OIL!! Both savory dishes I ate were totally flooded in oil (see photo) and that took a lot of enjoyment for me out of the meal. Being by the sea in Brighton I wanted some nice fresh fish which I did find but their fresh and clean flavour was totally masked. Star of the show was the thick cut of plaice on the bone – while not the easiest cut to eat (lots of hidden bones) it was perfectly grilled with delicious crisp skin, even with all that oil. There was definitely potential in the concept – but first a better olive oil topper is needed!
