A hidden gem in deepest, darkest Portslade! Jump on the number 1 or 1A bus and get over here, it's absolutely worth the trip - great cafe, cool retro store (cool stuff for non-Brighton-hiked prices) , garden wares, plants, furniture warehouse and now even the Wood Recycling Project have a shop on site! All in beautiful grounds...What's not to love!!??
Fab place. Great cafe with great food great price and s great cause!
Emmaus is such a special place, one of my favourite spots in all of the city. I highly recommend you visit.
This is such a wonderful organisation and such a friendly place to visit - for lunch or bargain hunting.
Really lovely time at Emmaus today, such a chilled and christmassy feel. We got a lovely belt basket to make a Christmas hamper and a dish thanks guys x
I am addicted to visiting Emmaus. It started when the children were little and attending Peter Gladwin school. A great place to visit with children from 12 years ago. The Greenhouse is in Gardeners World this month asking for donations.
A fantastic charity helping people from our local community who may have fallen on hard times or are struggling. Great staff and group of volunteers!
I've just had delivery of a double and single wardrobe plus a book case. It all had to go upstairs . Thanks to Harry and Graham who did it despite the foul weather , heavy wardrobe, and a bit of a tight turning on the landing. And in double quick time. These boys are fast!
Love the Emmaus philosophy and their place in Portslade and on Old shoreham Rd. Well priced too
Really helpful guys in the Woodstore only stopped by to collect some scaffolding planks. But will come back to have a better look around next time.
I've always loved it - the food, the shopping, the Companions - so much so that I have now moved to Portslade!
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
A fab charity, lots to see, lovely atmosphere, beautiful building and grounds and a great cafe(the best cheesey chips in the world!).xx
I went down yesterday and brought our Christmas tree I love it
Beautiful shape , really lovely dark green pine smells soooo festive
Thankyou
Looking forward to coming down on Saturday for the fair and macrame class
Really enjoyed our visit to your community .....lunch in your café with music too was really nice. Will keep you in mind when I move on land again I will need to make a new home some great stuff there what agreat way to help the homeless get back on their feet .
What a brilliant place! Not only a great treasure trove of items, but the cafe is fantastic! I have a bite to eat there every time I'm passing - the breakfasts and rarebit are delicious and great value for money! The staff are really friendly and jolly!
The biggest charity shop I've ever been
in. Wonderful place, full of bargains. The
best part, for me, was the 'Wood Recycling
Project'. The waste of wood is appalling.
These guys turn it into something really
useful. The work and purpose of this terrific
place is highly commendable. Popular cafe.
Sunny outside seating. Easy access.
We love this place , easy to park , great cafe on site , wonderful grounds .lots of vintage and good old charity shop finds , massive stock , friendly and helpful staff too .Easy to drop of donations, do check what they are taking .
The shop is great and also the cafe have a great selection of food and drinks all very reasonably priced. All the staff i have met are polite , helpful and friendly .A great charity and a very worthy cause
Large second hand (‘charity’) shop with lots of good and less good items. From plates to bed frames and from LP’s to milk cans. Not the cheapest, but there’s certainly a big selection.
The kind of place you want to linger in. From the first person who greets you, to the hellos you get and directions from bed section to superstore, this is clearly a special place. Such warm and friendly people, a huge selection of tempting items and particularly, potted plants and mid century furniture to spare. To then find that the Emmaus movement has grown globally from belle Paris is no surprise. What a great concept and good on all the people living and working there. The best customer service I've had in ages and a genuinely great place to be.
A visit to Emmaus is our little Saturday morning treat! Nothing starts the day off better than an Emmaus breakfast at the Cafe -we're addicted to the cheesy chips and the sausage sandwiches - followed by a walk around the Emporium - bargains galore! - we never leave there empty handed- and some of the nicest staff you'll ever meet- and so grateful for donations - we love, love, love it!!!
I called in here while I was on holiday in the area and picked up some great bargains. The café is also fantastic. Hope to call in again in the future
I live local to this store, my dad was visiting from Wales and wanted to visit. He loved it! We had a beautiful breakfast and coffee in the cafe which was reasonably priced. The friendly and knowledgeable shop staff were happy to talk to my dad - They shared lots of interesting stories about some of the hand made items and the site history as well as sharing statistics about homelessness in the area and explaining about the charity. Thank you from me and my Dad for a lovely morning. We will be back. :-)
Donated my furniture and the collection guys were brilliant! Polite friendly and really helpful - will definitely donate again !

I always love a good Bob around the charity shops in any town I visit but Emmaus is the joy of it all in one place.
Well laid out, staff are polite and so much to explore. Could easily loose some hours here!
A good charity. Well worth a visit. Pick up a bargain or two. A day out. Good cafe,
This Emmaus is brilliant. Housed in several outbuildings of what was once a Manor house, you’ll find well-curated clothing, bric a brac, books, home furnishings and even beds (there’s a whole building for bedroom furniture). There’s a customer loo and a really cute cafe. The staff are all incredibly helpful and obviously dedicated to what they do. The location isn’t the easiest to access but you can catch a number 1 bus straight to the door from Brighton. Best charity shop in the south east.
An amazing place. Takes charity shopping to another level!
They direct you on entry, asking if you are donating or buying. Reasonable parking space available. It has various sections. There is an outside area for gardening/plants, the main building is huge and well laid out. Most things are “grouped”, so glasses are in one section, furniture another, clothing etc. It’s not overwhelming so you easily see what’s what. Round the corner there is another building for bedroom furniture and fittings. There is a cafe onsite, although I’m not sure of the opening hours during the pandemic. Staff are friendly. There is a smaller branch nearer Hove, but I must say this place has nailed it as far as charity shops go.

lovely afternoon out. There is so much stuff to look through! The place is huge and if you like a good charity shop bargain this is the number one place to come. There is a lovely cafe with well priced and good food. When the weathers fine you can sit out in the garden. The staff are really sweet and very helpful.
A couple of years ago, when moving into a new house , having far too much furniture, Emmaus were brilliant. Have been to the shops and they are wonderful. If you like to donate and or buy new items, this is you one stop shop, and for a good cause as well
