Marks and Sparks has traditionally been known as being at the expensive end of high street retailers. With fewer and fewer big department stores these days, even M&S are branching out to some stand alone food only stores rather than the Food Halls which are usually buried behind the depths of comfortable ladies underwear (big pants) and belted beige slacks for Grandad. Churchill Square/Western Road is the Old style, but not hidden at all.
The Food Hall starts with the colourful fresh fruit and vegetables in the same layout all big supermarkets do.
Whilst most of the prices were higher than Sainsburys and Aldi, (£7.55 for a fresh free range medium chicken, approx 1.5kg is a bit pricey however happy the chicken was) but it seems that the slightly higher prices allow M&S to keep the prices of some real kitchen staples low - and I mean surprisingly low. £1 for a 1kg bag of sugar, the same for half a dozen eggs! Cheaper than the discount stores and no public fanfare. I'm tempted to go back one weekday afternoon and find all of their low priced staples, and buy 2 of all of them!!
Nearby Churchill Square centre. You can find many things related to both clothing and footwear, also, at the back of the store the market is located. The store is right next to the bus stops.
M&S provide good quality of goods and food for your choice. Its location is at the city centre and you can access it easily. However, the decoration is a little bit of old fashion and need to upgrade it in future. During the COVID-19 period, there are only a few customers in the shop, I wish that every customer will return soon when the pandemic is over.
Was a good visit to the cafe, had a lovely smashed avacado and poached eggs with bacon. Also a shortbread frappe. Staff were nice and good service.
Experts in the delivery of genuine Customer Care.
This large branch is always welcoming, and the friendly staff in any of the departments, including those in the food hall, will always support the customer in whatever way they can with the minimum of fuss.
The M&S Food section has a good range of high-quality products. The Sparks card 'scan-as-you-shop' feature makes a small shop more convenient. The only room for improvement would be for Food customers not to have to walk past aisles of underwear to do their shopping.
As always an excellent service in your store. There was a lovely girl on the changing room & then a lady who helped me with a dress size up getting it for me. The lady at the till made the effort to help me with the app, to see if I had any offers. Walked away very happy thank you. Donna 😊
