Malolo Poke

Another new eatery discovery thanks to the Ritual app. Picked up their funky chicken bowl (normally $13.90) for $1 during the app’s Brisbane launch promotion. I don’t normally go for poke bowls as I don’t think I’ll like them, but this one exceeded my expectations and pleasantly surprised me with how much I enjoyed eating it. The combination of poached chicken, carrots, beets, red onions, kale, creamy peanut dressing, toasted peanuts and fried wontons, served on brown rice, was full of flavour and textural contrasts. Certainly something I’d gladly eat again.

I LOVE Malolo Poke! The food is incredible, so fresh and delicious. The size of the bowls are just right and very reasonably priced for the amount of choices you have. The combination of flavours is spot on. Fresh, delicious and healthy - perfect combination! The staff are also incredibly warm and friendly and always smiling and chatty. I could easily eat at Malolo every day, I will be a regular customer!!

This was the best lunch I think I’ve ever had. I just don’t understand how they managed to get the perfect amount of texture and flavor in every single bite!!! I seriously cannot fault these guys. You have to try it. I dream about the day I can make a trip into the city during the week to go again! Loved my malolo poke experience!

Alright so starting with the good: it is delicious like no other poke place in Brisbane. They give you a lot of food and their variety is very good. Very hard to find a place that offers healthy food that is well presented and very tasty. And these are the only reasons why it gets a 3 star, otherwise there would be little saving it... Oh boy, the bad: so the employees are really slow at their job, during peak lunch time.... every days. It feels like they are still training. They also keep little metal bowls with each ingredient to assemble the proper bowls. Makes sense right? The problem is that every other bowl they assemble they have to refill it and they end up wasting a lot of time because they have to constantly stop everything refill the little metal bowls. They also seem to have very limited teamwork. While one of them is filling the bowl, they other is often just standing there. Sometimes during peak hour there is a third one and they also just stand there at the register, even when there is no one paying, while there is a huge line and only one person assembling the bowls, very slowly I might add (again). Ps: they also canceled my order 50mins after I ordered on DoorDash. There was even a rider on the way! And no reason was given! I was VERY hangry! PPS: I have also found a hair on the food, it was only once though.
