Cafe East

The location of Cafe East is fantastic. It is right in the thick of Queen Street Mall, yet provides a relaxed environment to enjoy a meal and watch the world go by. The service was good. The portion sizes were generous. I ordered a Pad Thai and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, just a couple things really made the difference between an excellent experience and a "good" one. The menu has limited vegetarian options. And the two people I was dining with, both had to change their orders because the kitchen had run out of bread on a Friday evening. However, that being said, I would still give Cafe East a serious consideration for open-air dining in the Queen Street Mall.

The location is good, as is the service; however, both my friend and I ordered meals that featured prawns with a sauce to find that the prawns were doused in the sauce (as they should be) but awkwardly unpeeled and still with their heads. So, to eat the meal, you had to dirty your hands peeling the prawns, whereby you're left with a plain prawn that has no sauce. They should have been peeled in the kitchen before being put in the meal. I shan't be visiting again.

It's a busy Saturday in Queen Street Mall, it's raining and yet in all this chaos I was impressed with Cafe East. The staff presented well and were professional in their demeanor as well as dress. Service was friendly and efficient. Cafe East's location is convenient and to this out of towner allowed me to soak up some atmosphere of the mall. My coffee was ok, though my fussy daughter did not enjoy her chai latte. That said, I still recommend Cafe East.
