It was a lovely June Winters Day, a pleasant change as the previous weeks had been cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. Trolling the esplanade to find a suitable lunch spot, took us from one end of Esplanade from Wynumm to Lota. At the end of the road, we found one take away which looked promising, but was closed. So Bart's place was the next along the line. Although at the beach side, and fish and chips is the socially expected and acceptable lunch food. It was definitely a chicken burger and hot chips sort of day. 2x Chicken burger ($12.50 each), $6 worth of chips for 2 people, 2 potato scallops and 2 cans of drink was the order, which brought the total to $40. The burger was your standard chicken burger, nothing amazing, nothing bad, stock standard. Chips were loaded with chicken salt which was a very nice touch as who doesn't love chicken salt? The chips and potato scallop were hot and fresh and were actually the perfect amount for two people. Barts was a good stop throughout our day and I would go back to try their other options, however, I'm not expecting anything to blow my socks off.

Bart's Place is now my place! Faultless food, superb service. Fresh bowl of prawns an inexpensive $12. Amazing chips for one at $2.50. Cooked just the way chips should be. Friendly and approachable service. Meals delivered to table. Thoughtful to serve prawns with a waste bowl and and a finger washing bowl. Also BYO. Amazing! Fantastic view too. Family owned and operated business. The locals are here, affirming its quality. Enjoyed this Wednesday lunch treat. Worth supporting this local business and if you know of people keen to work in hospitality, apply here!

Staff not very nice. Chips tasted like the oil was either super cheap or needed changing. It’s a shame, used to be my grandparents favourite fish and chips. The last two years haven’t been kind for small business so I enjoy supporting local cafes etc so for future reference a smile wouldn’t go astray… would rather support other chip shops on the esplanade.

Have been coming here for years, with more frequency with kids lately. Very good quality fish and chips. Service is good. Prices are proportionate (it's not cheap though not being overcharged given the quality). Personal recommendation would be err on more chips, and save money and get say large cod or whiting rather than barra or similar. 3 stars for meeting expectations, +1 star for exceeding them compared to other chippies, and maintaining it over time.

I am very surprised about some of the reviews here. The food is great and the owner couple is always super nice and friendly. It's might not the cheapest f&c shop in the area, but they offer great quality and they work very hard. We are going there for years and I sadly see them struggling with their business from time to time. We should all help and support this small local shops!

Best fish and chips we have had in quite a while! Catering to my GF needs no problem at all. Husband sung high praise for his battered Barra too!

Nice quiet location near the beach. Battered snapper $14. Small chips $2.50. The size of fish was reasonable. Fresh 10 out of 10.
