I’ve visited the restaurant for lunch.
Atmosphere is pleasant along with decoration, a calmness and quiet that’s comforting on which the staff take part.
We opted for the lunch menu and decided to go for different dishes to cover all options and create a tasting menu. The food of superb, loved the dinnerware and presentation, as one should expect. The service was good with a variety of staff with different roles again as expected. The wine list was particularly interesting. Thank you

We opted for the tasting menu as the selection of courses looked good. It was tasty, but not as good as other Michelin starred restaurants I have eaten in, and I didn’t think the price was justified. There was no ‘wow’ factor with any of the courses sadly. I was disappointed with the truffle mash, and at £14 it’s a lot of money to spend on something that you don’t enjoy. The service was attentive but for me, the food didn’t hit the spot.

A wonderful experience, fabulous food, very relaxed and helpful atmosphere. Brilliant advice and help with the wines - not condescending at all. Highly recommended.

Had the 5 course set menu, and all the courses were delicious! Service was exceptional, and the wine selection and advice from the sommelier was great!

We celebrated our anniversary at Wilks enjoying their degustation menu and I cannot recommended enough.
The food was prepared with so much attention to detail, the front room staff were so helpful and friendly.
This has definitely made it to the top of my Bristol favourites.

Wonderful all around! Everyone working at Wilks are super nice and super knowledgeable and passionate about the food they serve. We did the tasting and wine flight and the sommelier’s choices complemented the food perfectly. The size of the restaurant is small and intimate. Recommend it for a very special occasion!

Me and my partner love it here! Cosy and intimate, great service and lovely fresh food and fine wine. They are great at catering for any dietary requirements.

Absolutely wonderful restaurant. It's tucked out of the way, and the atmosphere is almost like someone's living room. Very relaxed and quiet. The food was fantastic - brilliant chef. The service was very good also. In fact, the entire experience from start to finish is more than deserving of its Michelin star. Would absolutely recommend.
Note that the menu pictured was for that day - apparently it changes every evening!

I booked a table a month in advance of a family birthday. I said in the booking that I have a dairy allergy. The day before the day of the booking, I had a garbled message on my phone asking me to ring the restaurant. I thought they wanted to discuss my allergy. They didn't. They wanted to cancel the reservation because they cannot cater for any allergies. None, according to the person on the phone. Not dairy, gluten, nuts, fish or any other because their kitchen is too small to guarantee there is no cross contamination. There was no discussion; just a blunt 'Your reservation is cancelled.' I explained that this was for a birthday celebration and complained that it was very late notice. Christine did not explain why she had waited until the day before to cancel the reservation saying only that they could not cater for me. When I asked what I was supposed to do for a reservation, she suggested ringing other restaurants, which was not particularly helpful.

I find myself incredulous that such an attitude can be found in a Michelin-starred restaurant. Allergies are not uncommon and there are also those who want kosher or other specific diets, too. Are all such people barred from this establishment? And is it company practice to wait until the last possible moment to inform the client that the personnel are not competent enough to deal with a food allergy? They had more than 4 weeks to let me know they are incapable of producing food without specific ingredients. Have they had an issue that they are trying to cover up perhaps?

I have eaten in other Michelin-starred restaurants and sampled other tasting menus without any issues at all. Casa Mia in Bristol has catered to me many times all without difficulty.

Wilks is far from the top flight restaurant it portrays itself as. There are pizza restaurants and fast food places that can cater for allergies so why can this would-be top of the range place not equal their standards?

If you are looking for a truly memorable experience, I suggest trying Casa Mia, The Ivy, Nutmeg or pretty much any other restaurant in Bristol. The sooner this one closes down and makes way for people who know what they are doing the better.

If only Chorlton had a restaurant half as good as Wilks in Bristol, I'd be very happy indeed. Every neighbourhood should have a restaurant like this one in an ideal world. We don't even have an equivalent in the whole of Manchester either and are not likely to in the near future. Few independents can afford the exorbitant rents. Restaurants like this one are as rare as hen's teeth, outside of London. Just take a look at chef James Wilkins’ CV. It's as long as your arm. There are photos of him on the wall in various restaurants, Gordon Ramsay, with the Galvin brothers, at Michel Bras' three star restaurant in Laguiole, France amongst many others all over the world, Japan too. We find the bistro tucked away in a smart side street in Redland just outside of Bristol. There's a hushed silence, but we're the first there on this wet and miserable wintry Sunday. We begin with bread, naturally. It's good but short of exceptional. Nonetheless, I have a very good feeling about this place. Some pre-starters arrive. Beautiful, Parmesan cream, smoked salmon & fennel crackers with a Jerusalem artichoke velouté with truffle butter. Who couldn't love such wonderful little morsels? Fewer things make me happier than the phrase 'a gift from the chef'.
