After trying a few places for a walk-in roast at 3pm on a Sunday we were losing hope BUT we stumbled across Somerset house and wow we were so glad we did. The best roast I’ve had in a long time. Chicken and pork were both great, loads of veg, piping hot, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pud. All really nicely cooked and all of the staff were so friendly. Only complaint was it was very cold in there on a cold day!
So, here we are , a quick 1 night break in super Bristol....which we love! Having "retail therapied " and strolled along the banks of the river we have climbed up the steep hill to our favourite spot.....Clifton. And lo and behold we have stumbled upon the Somerset House....our first visit. Perfect evening and with seating outside we chilled out and had some Desperado's !! Such a shame they had no decent real ale beers....just Proper Job and Gem. Nice music, lovely staff and they do food but we did not partake. It's so good that pub's are allowed to encroach on the road and make it very civilised and friendly indeed !!
This place is larger than it looks from the pictures online. It has indoor and outdoor seating. We had 2 great meals. The gluten free burger was safe for a celiac to eat. Waitstaff was very knowledgeable and careful to make it safe. The burger was very good and it was huge. It came with huge portion of GF fries which were also great. Our non gluten free eater had the Herb Crusted Market Fish, which was good. We would definitely go back to this restaurant.

The BEST veggie roast dinner. Potatoes slapped 🤙 and portions are great value. Coconut mojitos very delicious and coconutty 🌴 Hardworking and really friendly supervisor!

Great selection of tasty vegetables and really good home made Yorkshire puddings & roast potatoes.

We had a friendly, helpful waitress who obviously loved her job and made recommendations regarding our drinks.
Great selection of gins and beers
I had the marmalade one and my friend the blackberry - both delicious.
Sticky toffee puddings went down a treat and the Chocolate Eaton Mess was nice, but would have benefitted from some chocolate or strawberry sauce.
The only thing to let the meal down was the blackberry and apple crumble
The fruit was beautifully cooked but there was no crumble - just a sprinkling of porridge oats and the custard was watery and so sweet it was inedible.
We were offered another jug but told it was exactly the same, so refused it.
Why?

We love Somerset House. The best Sunday roast in Clifton, hands down. Ely always takes care of us with a smile and good humour, even when we bring our own horseradish (which she then keeps for us!). Or accommodation us on a single table when we needed to add 4 people to our table of 6. Reading this, I’m surprised they’re so nice to us!
This is well situated pub with great food and friendly helpful staff. a varied range of food from burgers to plates of delicious fresh cooked food. Local suppliers provide great ingredients. had the fish linguini with smoked salmon and delicious king prawns. I had a glass of Guinness and finished with fruit crumble and coffee highly recommended and will be using this one again and again
