This is the poshest Spoons on record according to Tim. It is an amazing structure with some fascinating history but it's not one of my favourites. I have never seen such a busy Wetherspoons. People were waiting patiently for tables to become available. It was madness really. We went at lunchtime & it was loud & extremely busy. It started to ease off around 2pm. The bar area is on the first floor, along with the toilets which were spotless & pong free. Number 51 for us.

The restaurant's interior exudes old-world charm, with roman coloums and vintage decor that transports diners to a bygone era. Each corner of the restaurant tells a story, inviting patrons to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of the building's past.
But while the ambiance may be steeped in history, the menu at this weatherspoons is decidedly modern and affordable. Offering a diverse selection of dishes inspired by both traditional and contemporary cuisine, there is something to satisfy every palate.

Had to review my review again as I feel something has changed for the better. The quality of the food that's coming out of the kitchen has improved. The plates are not as cold as previously stated in my last review of the place. Staff are and have always been friendly and helpful and the only thing I can say is I do miss when someone used to come to my table and ask if everything was okay with the meal. The removal of this personal touch has probably been made from way up above but it was nice and at times important. Overall I think the establishment is working constantly to improve their standards and that deserves a few more stars.

Bury St Edmunds: Wow what a building. Nearly walked past this magnificent building when we noticed the signage. Entry can be through a side door for disabled and those with prams.
Otherwise a grand entry at the front of the building by two side staircases. Large airy building, good seating spaces with comfortable chairs. Absolutely packed with people. Inexpensive menu with selection of basic meals and snacks. Drinks pricing very competitive. Note your table number, then order at the bar. Staffing and waiting time excellent, no long queues even at 12 noon. Toilets modern and clean. An experience worth having. Enhanced by the heritage of a well kept building!

It was reasonably busy when we arrived, with a good atmosphere, always a good sign. It was recommended to eat here due to the venue, and that didn't disappoint as the corn exchange is a lovely building.
Staff & facilities.
The bar staff were friendly, unfortunately the same could not be said for the waiter, who shall we say, offered limited acknowledgement. The place was clean enough. There are plenty of toilets, unfortunately, several looked blocked, I think I looked in 5. Being on the first floor there's also a lift, but, doubt, 8 people could comfortably fit inside. But it has one.
Food & drink
Unlimited coffee, always good. There appeared to be several groups of people sitting near the bar, just out for drinks too.
The menu is that of a Weather Spoons, with the puddings bordering on the American style, although most weren't available. The food was adequate. The person who ordered the steak wasn't asked how they wanted it cooked. The extra sides added to a meal randomly and not necessarily the right one. The food was nice enough. The halloumi was rubbery as it was slightly over cooked. The were chips limited. The side of scampi was the best in size and taste. That was yum. The deserts/puddings again ok, after choosing from the remaining options.
Yes, I would go there again for the atmosphere and building, it's also reasonably priced. But, would choose different menu options, and would definitely order the scampi!

Surely one of the best spoons in the country, incredible building, really good service and really well cooked and presented food. At the usual bargain price too, and with the convenience of the brilliant app. Unfortunately, a little let down by the clientele, three lads having a shadow boxing fight at bar, and concerningly the gents toilets looked like a rugby team had been poisoned. On another table, four elderly people were having a sing song, but to be totally honest, i didn't really mind its nice to see them out and having a nice time. It's definitely worth a visit for the building alone. It's just a shame that nothing is done to improve the atmosphere in any way.

Amazing building. Might be the most impressive pub building in Suffolk if not the UK

Short visit on a midweek morning was pleasant enough.
Food acceptable & ale as usual in good condition.
It being a rather large area atmosphere was lacking, seating not overly comfortable but acceptable.
Access is by several stairs, but there is a lift at the side of building although this isn't clearly signed & easily missed.
The lavatories are on same level & post code as bar & seating area which is unusual for a Spoons.
£8.70 for a English Breakfast and a pint of Stout-Porter is as usual very acceptable !

Voted one of the prettiest Wetherspoons in the country. Ample seating, large bathrooms. There is a lift for disabled access around the side of the building if it’s your first time, may be tricky to find.
Food always comes out quick and hot, drinks served fast.
It’s a Wetherspoon pub, but out of the bunch, it’s a very good Wetherspoon pub.

You know what you’re going to get at a typical spoons, this one doesn’t disappoint. Food was promptly delivered to the table and portions were good.
Ambience of the building was nice, very interesting architecture.

Normal spoons. It's very big, but no problem finding a seat. they don't serve custard as they have a small kitchen. Worth a visit for the architecture of the building.

Beautiful building and well located in the centre! The bar is located upstairs!
Another good value wetherspoons branch for drinks and meals

The building itself is in the top ten of Spoons I've visited.
Staff was pleasant enough, my missus wasn't impressed by the southern fried chicken strips meal only comes with rice or chips (she usually asks for it to be substituted for a jacket potato in every pub we've ever visited) but this one wouldn't accommodate this request.
Other than that, it was a nice evening

What a lovely wetherspoons this is. From the moment you enter you'd think you'd walked into a posh hotel.
I was in this restaurant as I'd a car to take for a service and I must say it's one the nicest I've been in. A lovely big roaring 🔥 fire and plenty of seating. The setting is brilliant and I take the pleasure of looking atvthe structure of the place and it's damn well impressive. Food and Drinks served with a smile as always in wetherspoons. I'll definitely be visiting this place again...🥰🍽🍺❤👍

This was probably the nicest looking Spoons I have ever been in! It is a historic Victorian era building that was once used as a central hub for grain trade in Sussex.
Food: I ordered jacket potato with 3 bean chilli, and my Mrs ordered a pasta dish. However, for the life of me, I can not remember the name of the dish, but the portion was so small that I had to donate part of my jacket potato to make up for it. "Hello! Portion control?.... anyone?? - *radio silence....*
Other than that, great establishment, good clean toilet facilities (for a Spoons). I can't comment on the pints, I was driving that day. But overall, it was very nice. You just need to think about the size of an average adult human being vs. the portion size, lol. It was more fitting for a small child! 😄
Thanks!

Nice place to go for a quick meal prices are good however service needs improving however there is an app you can use for table service .

Spent several hours here this weekend and I have to say it’s been an absolute pleasure. Not only have I sank several incredibly affordable pints here (including a Greene King IPA, local brew and the reason my granny owns a house), I’ve wolfed down two veggie breakfasts and witnessed a 10-man bar brawl. Service is impeccable, especially for my app-using friend who prefers to order his food and drink without interacting with people. Oh yeah, the decor and design of this Spoons is incredible! It’s palatial and beautiful and historic. I feel like my time in Bury St Edmonds has been well spent!

As Wetherspoons go, the Corn Exchange isn't bad. If I'm honest it's worth it for the architecture! Decent food at a good price, the usual excellent range of beers and a good bunch of locals enjoying their breakfast.
