Visited on Sun 2nd April having viewed all the reviews on TripAdvisor. All staff were very accommodating and the food was beautifully presented, ample portion sizes and absolutely delicious. Would thoroughly recommend, will definitely be returning. Thank you Varsity a lovely treat for a belated Mothers Day.
Lovely place, fantastic staff, great food & wine! We choosed the restaurant based on tripadvisor advice and were not disappointed. The place is quiet and kind of romantic, despite being located along one of the main Cambridge's streets. We got a nice table by the window. We liked the fish - tasty but light, with fresh vegetables and potatoes. The Eton mess was a real treat! Service was fast and kind.
Incredible food and service - thank you for superb scallops starter, duck to die for, a delicious dessert and all served by efficient, polite, friendly, waiters. Best of all gluten free choices galore - thank-you. Definitely returning.
Superb food, generous portion sizes, very reasonable prices, good selection of wine, attentive but not intrusive staff, lovely surroundings and an excellent location; I've fast run out of superlatives!
We went here for my birthday and had seen good reviews on tripadvisor. We were not disappointed. The smoked mozarella arancini and prawn cake starters were very good indeed. I had the ribeye steak and my wife had the venison for main, both were cooked to perfection so melted in the mouth, the mushroom sauce for the steak was so moreish! The staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a quality restaurant in Cambridge!!!!
Went there for ours daughters birthday. Lovely meal, the wine flowed and service is second to none. Highly recommend this restaurant
One word -Exceptional! As another reviewer has said, we too have eaten in many varied restaurants including Michelin starred and this is right up there with the best! The food was second to none, the service was attentive but not intrusive, the owner chatted with us and was genuinely interested in our feedback. Brilliant location too, and reasonable prices! My second visit since re-opening & both meals were excellent. My hake was perfectly cooked. Great varied bistro menu, excellent service & stylish interior. London standards with sensible pricing, def worth a visit!
We went there as a group of three. Service was great.....had amazing steak, delicious wine. Chips were a bit overdone but that can be forgiven. Will definitely go again.

My husband and I came here for Sunday roast with our infant daughter. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was relaxed.
Our daughter napped on the bench seat next to me for 30+ minutes while we ate. When she woke up, they prepared a changing area for us in an upstairs room.
They were very accommodating and friendly. Plus, the food was good. 😊

Lovely pretheatre menu both food and wine, good service which was unhurried. I had the baby squid, belly pork followed by vanilla panacotta, yum! The Carmeniere was lovely too!
Everything was excellent: extremely tasty food, nice music (and not too loud), attentive staff. The mussels and the caramel popcorn were a particularly nice surprise.
Incredible service in a modern old styled venue. I haven't been happily surprised in some time, but this gem managed to amaze us with new takes on classics. Definitely recommend to visit!

I remember Varsity well from visits before and during my studies here in the 2000's. Then it was a busy and charming Cypriot place with great kleftiko and grilled meat.
Now it is an even better modern British restaurant with truly memorable food, the kind of restaurant where you order dessert even though you are full. The cod loin and pork loin dishes my wife and I had were perfectly cooked with well balanced accompaniments. Good portions too - we didn't need the potatoes on the side. The starters of a feta and vegetable croquettes and grilled octopus in a kataifi nest was unlike anything I've had before and well worth trying.
The staff were attentive and friendly. They even had a Sam Smith's beer which is always a plus.
Try it out!
Eton mess is a very authentic dessert here. Steak and lamb are also recommended in Varsity. Waitress are very kindly to serve foreigners.
My wife and I ate at Varsity today, meeting my friend and his wife who we had not seen in 30yrs. Of Trini lineage, both husbands opted for the chicken breast dish captioned. For those of you familiar with the twin island republic just off the coast of Venezuela, you are probably aware of the country's reported high per capita consumption of KFC chicken. An indicator of the choice of both husbands and note neither asked for black pepper, pepper sauce, salt or ketchup.
The colonel has to eat at Varsity. The chicken breast was well seasoned, cooked through evenly, with caramelized skin, and juices flowing. It was without doubt the very best chicken breast I have eaten to date since my UK life began again.
You are Cambridge for whatever the reason, spare 2hrs have the chicken breast at Varsity, and remember to tell Eric I sent you.

A beautiful experience. We had amazing food, the staff was kind and helpful, the music was at the right volume and just generally a really really nice atmosphere. The place is small but for us that was a plus (it can't get crowded/loud). Every dish was amazing. When I eat outside I seek creativity and good taste and Varsity managed to deliver just that. Good presentation, great ingredients and perfect timing. Most definitely will try again at some point in the future.
