It’s dog friendly but on menu a few items for them would be great! More seating space as all we had on offer was one table indoors.
Gina all along was so lovely and fab service. Your smile made the special day.
On booking it was added special occasion being birthday so a small gesture would have been nice knowing it’s Browns!
Drinks long straws were over but two of the cocktails were decent.
Main meals were spot on. Really nice food.
Would visit again for Gina and the Chef’s cooking!

Saturday night with Simon (Piano man) was delightful! Brown’s created such a good atmosphere for anyone who wants to relax over the weekend (and splurge a little) with good food and nice music. Fish Pie was delicious, authentic says some British friends, and the sticky toffee pudding was a great addition to end the night.

Classy! We were lucky enough that live piano music were being played the night we had dinner in Cambridge. We had a lovely evening with friends, great wholesome m meals, great bar, and mostly good service (depending who you get). Our waiter was very personable and friendly.

As like all Browns restaurants it was a lovely place to enjoy a meal. However on this occasion we went for the set menu which was slightly underwhelming. The food was nice but without added sides would not have been enough. The staff were friendly and accommodating, providing a good service. I had the fish cakes which were quite nice and for starters the mushrooms on toast were delicious.

Afternoon tea on a wet Thursday in October. Great selection of food and well presented. Not sure the tea was Earl Grey, unless it's some new blend with additional flavours added, but certainly not bergamot.
Caroline Sanders
Lovely atmosphere and welcome. Very slow service. However, it was busy and the pulled lamb shepherd's pie was excellent. 👌

Wonderful evening here with my Mum. There was a live pianist which was really special. Delicious food, great service, at a place that is part of Cambridge’s cultural history - I remember coming here as a teenager which is almost 40 years ago!! 😳 (and it’s better than I remember too!)
Would definitely recommend, and will be returning next time I’m here.

Browns is a great place to eat. I have been to other Browns before but the one in Cambridge is my favourite. The restaurant itself carries a great ambience in the large, spacious hall. Staff are attentive and friendly. The food was fresh and tasty. There was also a good selection of wines and beer on tap.

Had another lovely evening at Browns (with my wife). Great atmosphere and fantastic service from our waitress “Grace” who elevated the whole evening. If I had one critique - it’s that the menu doesn’t appear to have changed in a long while.
Becca Rox
Service was 5*, the staff were friendly and attentive. Atmosphere of course was cosy! Food was amazing especially the starter and dessert (we had cod cheeks and brownie and crumble) we both had a steak. Being honest the steak wasn’t the what steak I’ve ever had BUT it was still good. Maybe not quite worth 33 quid..
overall good experience and I would go back. Just not for steak :p

Had a lovely brunch here. The gluten free menu is fairly extensive too and at a good price! The only downside was the service was slow, especially when it came to getting the bill.

I can’t express how much we enjoyed our night out in browns! 🥰 my and my friends came in to celebrate my sisters birthday, and it was so nice, our waiters Norma and Luca took such a good care of us, and the desserts came with a candle 🥹
Definitely will be back xx

I've been to a browns restaurant before and I loved it, so I had to check out one more on my trip to Cambridge! Firstly kudos to the server, Pedro for a professional and warm experience. The food was very good:
I started with the Scallops - those tender fishy shards of goodness went perfectly with the pea sauce. I only wish there were more!
Being all fished out I had the sirloin for my main which was perfectly cooked to order (you can never have enough steak). It was well seasoned, moist and meaty. Perfectly balanced.
I was tempted by a dessert but I finished my date's main because she couldn't manage the whole rack and I definitely could. The lamb was exceptional and it really set up our night well!
The drinks were also great! I would really recommend this place for the food, excellent service and cocktails. I'll be back and Pedro better have my Old Fashioned waiting for me.

An amazing dinner at Brown's Brasserie, Cambridge. Delicious food, great atmosphere and a tremendous front of house service from Wiktor. He would not be out of place as front of house on The Savoy. We'll done all round.

We went to Browns Restaurant Cambridge yesterday (10.9.17) to celebrate my autistic son's 18th birthday. Both my sons ordered a beefburger from the adult menu but the waiter brought one from kids menu (much to my 8 year old's disappointment, he has a big apetite!). An honest mistake which the waiter rectified reasonably quickly. My wife ordered a tomato risotto which when it arrived was inedible. It tasted like polystyrene with the flavour removed! The rice was quite dry and not creamy like it should be. A couple of slices of raw tasteless tomato had been thrown on top of the rice, no doubt to ensure that it could be called a tomato risotto and they couldn't be sued for misrepresentation. The mâitre'd apologised and offered anything on the menu as a replacement, my wife opted for fish & chips which duly arrived. I had ordered the sea-bass with two side dishes, chips with parmasan and some fried mushrooms. The absolutely tiny sea-bass arrived but no side dishes. After waiting 5 minutes I called the waiter over and explained the situation. He apologised and said he had forgotten to include the 'sides' on the order! The waiter re-ordered the sides. I then thought to myself should I eat my sea-bass or wait for the sides? I did the former, thank god, as I then had to wait an interminal half hour before the rest of my main course arrived. I devoured my sea-bass (the size of a spratt) within a couple of minutes, underneath I found one small new potato and three small segments of an infitnitessimal squid's tentacle in an over-salted sauce. I had, by this time given up the will to live. It's not often you are given the task of eating chips on their own, they really would have tasted better accompanied by some fish. Likewise with the field mushrooms, such a shame. My wife decided to drown her sorrows with a beautiful looking raspberry mojito. It was not to be. After one gulp the sudden realisation that a vital ingredient had gone AWOL. I made representations to the mâitre'd when again he apologised and went off to make another one but this time adding some sugar syrup. It was better but nothing wow.
The celebration was ruined by poor food/cooking and a failure to check the order. The staff tried to put things right by offering a couple of free coffees and not charging for my wife's fish & chips but the meal will always be remembered for the faults and not the food.
We will NEVER visit this restaurant again...EVER!

Beautiful place. I went there with my girlfriend lastnight and we had a lovely time. It was busy and we had a wait but was treated well by front of house and had a cocktail whilst we waited.
Stunning food; best steak I've ever eaten.
Will definitely recommend 👌

The food was amazing (I had the slow cooked salted pork belly) and every bite was delicious. We were served very quickly and we didn't have to wait very long at all for our food to arrive. The staff were very polite and professional. Arguably one of the best things was the pianist! A nice variety of music to accompany the meal.
Tina Louise Edwards
Extremely slow. Booked for afternoon tea waited over an hour to be brought a pot of tea. The tea was cold by the time the food arrived. Very sloppy looking & not too appetizing & with chipped pots of cream! Very short staffed. Wouldn't return. Such a shame as once upon was 'The place to be'.

It is a lovely place to go, we had booked it for my friends 50th Birthday for Saturday 4th Aug and there were 16 of us and tables booked for 3 pm. We almost waited an hour for the afternoon tea to arrive. Then some of the bread on the sandwiches were abit dry, the Carrot cake rubbery and hard to chew. The rest was lovely. They bring over two bottles of Prosecco to compensate for the lateness of our afternoon tea arriving at the table. But it just took the edge of the afternoon for my friends 🎂50th Birthday. Sorry but I don't like the new decor. Yellow is the colour for Browns whether it is in Brighton,Oxford or Cambridge. Our meal on Sat was to celebrate my wife's birthday and was rather a let down. We went straight for the mains and were surprised how quickly they appeared. My chips were superb but the fish had seen better days and the peas were cold. My wife's lobster risotto was very ordinary, small and over priced. We both chose ice cream and wanted 2 vanilla and 1 honeycomb. We got 3 vanilla. To compound matters we were charged an extra £1 for the honeycomb ! This charge was removed after I complained but only at the end of the bill which meant that the service charge was applied to the wrong amount. Yes I know it's only 10p but ..... We did have a fantastic English sparkling wine which I would urge people to try.
Simon Pennington
Positive - Food was ok, if a little overpriced for the quality.
Reason for rating - Staff were dire, rude and pushy, didn’t inform you that the chip basket was hotter than the surface of the sun so you burnt your hands when touching it (literally, still have the mark) and the wait staff actually made you want to leave. Wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t recommend anyone to try it, there is much better in the locality.
Pamela Pittham
Had the most delicious brunch here on Monday morning. Celebrating a birthday & Alexandra was the best waitress ever! So attentive & provided a birthday pudding too. Can’t wait to return.
Melanie Reeve
We had a excellent afternoon tea lovely and different selection of food and it was brilliant value for money . We definitely would recommend this place for afternoon tea .
Tracey Chapman
We were bought Champagne afternoon tea as a gift. We pre booked but yet weren't asked for our name. Taken to a table & given menus when we stared we were having afternoon tea! The tea was luke warm, and had to ask for more. The champagne, cakes and mini brioche rolls were good. We were then asked to pay a service charge and the service was extremely poor No one checked on us. Not impressed when we had been given the experience as a gift, wouldn't recommend

Since its refurb earlier this year, Browns continues to be a very elegant and relaxed way to dine in Cambridge. For us, this will be our regular Saturday morning breakfast haunt, get there early and you can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere whilst enjoying (in my opinion) the best breakfasts in Cambridge.
Janet Holmes
We really enjoyed our food
The staff were lovely, very helpful and polite
Lovely setting
We are from Lowestoft but will visit again when in Cambridge
Alison Tighe
Great venue with fabulous food. Our waitress was really helpful and the piano player an added bonus.
Mark Cox
Went here last night for our wedding anniversary
The food was Good....although they did mess up my wife's main dish & I was left eating on my own...... we also felt very rushed and not very private, like sitting in a school canteen or back street Cafe.
The mains we nothing like explained on the menu with items missing , when we complained they were eventually brought out with an apology but very late as we had finished ...chips we very rubbery too..
We will not be returning to Browns at Cambridge

Had my 50th Birthday celebration destroyed here last night...
The table had been booked for at least 10 days (We came back from Paris to be here for 8pm) but when we arrived there wasn't a table available.
I was offered a free glass of prosecco as compensation (nothing was offered to any of our other guests) But after waiting for between 20-30 minutes for that to arrive the waiter proceeded to drop the glass onto the table we'd managed to find in the overcrowded bar covering me in prosecco and broken glass! And that was before we'd even sat down. Things went from bad to worse we were finally seated an hour after arriving and several complaints, but had to wait ANOTHER 15 minutes before anyone took our order, starters took another 30 minutes to arrive, (total 1 hour and 45 mins after arriving at the restaurant we finally got our starters) and that set the tone for the whole evening, my son was squashed half to death by the party sitting behind us, who although friendly and pleasant were way too close for comfort (and also disgusted at the service they were receiving). We waited too long for our main course, we waited too long for drinks. By the time the waiter took our dessert order some choices were unavailable, when my profiteroles finally arrived a birthday candle had been rammed directly into one of the profiteroles, no candle holder, just the waxy candle rammed straight into the food! No ceremony. No singing. No thought!
3 hours after arriving we couldn't wait to leave.
Quite categorically the WORST Birthday meal EVER.
Robyn Amy
Fantastic atmosphere and good food. Would highly recommend the salted caramel profiteroles!!

Fabulous food, good service and lovely, clean surroundings. Lovely, attentive waitress. Cocktails a bit on the weak side though.
Nikki Stewart
The young Irish girl that served me was fantastic, really enjoyed the food and service, was absolutely 5*. The fish pie was fab.
Jan Stevenson
Lovely surroundings and atmosphere. Welcomed us as a large biker group which is rather unusual. People seem to think we only want to eat in greasy spoons ! Service was friendly. Crushed avocado in my vegetarian breakfast worked for me.
Rebecca Levitt Was Howlett
Afternoon tea
Sandwiches were OK, the cakes were lovely but scones were off and really hard.
Very disappointing!
Jamie Simpson
Rude staff food burned to inedible won’t go back !
Sharon Ludman

Paddy Stanton

Lesley Arnold
Very welcoming and staff very friendly x excellent service and food.
Shirley Fowler
Did wait a bit for someone to seat us. But we had club sandwich and fish and chips, and it was one of the best meals we have had in a while, the cocktail was out standing as could actually taste alcohol in it. The service a little slow but once order was taken things did move more swiftly. We will be back for lunch again soon. 9/10 from us.
Kerry Belenger
Went for an anniversary dinner, didn't disappoint the lamb was amazing ,the alfresco dinning is lovely

Browns has been a Cambridge institution since it opened its doors in 1987. The beautiful building was part of the old Addenbrooke’s Hospital originally built in 1766 and the outpatients department, with its majestic columns, was built as a memorial to King Edward VII in 1914. I visited Browns a few times when I moved to Cambridge and I have to admit it was looking a little tired and the spaces didn’t flow. Browns has now been completely transformed thanks to an extensive interior refurbishment. It’s contemporary and luxurious with a touch of glamour in every area, from the sweeping bar and its grand piano to the various purposely designed spaces for public, semi-private and private dining. Ideal for parties, family gatherings, business meetings and romantic dinners, there are sections for every occasion.
