This wonderful and hidden sushi place is great for those enjoying traditional Japanese fare.
What makes this place special for me is that they have a really expansive menu and fantastic grilled items. I can't recommend enough the grilled Tuna Jaw absolutely amazing.
The photo attached is the lunch special.

Really enjoy the food options here. Having been in Japan recently id say many of the options remindeds us what food is like in Tokyo. The ambiance could be better but the staff is super friendly and the food is so good that I happily come back again and again.

Very good food quality and good selection of Japanese dishes. The service is excellent too. A favorite place for Japanese cuisine.

Food is pretty good if a bit salty. Wait staff and chef are all from Japan and very nice and friendly

I was impressed with the quality of the fish and with the prices. Lunch combos were $11 and $16. The nigiri pieces each had an interesting glaze. I had never enjoyed mackerel before eating here, and I've had a lot of sushi! The only piece that wasn't excellent in appearance was the Tamago egg piece, but the taste was fine.

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the area. They have excellent katsudon bowls! The sushi isn't half-bad either, but you could get sushi a lot of places. This is a great place to go if you want to get a wider selection of Japanese offerings.

Not really sure how my experience differed so much from others, but this was certainly some of the worst sushi I've had in Boston. My dining partner and I got an assortment of nagiri and most of it was way past it's freshness limit. My seared tuna was cold (clearly pre-seared and served out of a refrigerated container) and the seared salmon was actually just bad (also cold.)
We were both really sick the rest of the night and the next day.

Wafu-ya is by far the best Japanese restaurant around. Even surrounded by other eateries in Porter Square's Lesley building, it surpasses all. I eat there several times a week with a friend on the autistism spectrum and the staff are super accommodating and wonderful. Tano and Christian behind the sushi counter are incredible at their craft and the wait staff are exceptional. The food is to die for with a extremely reasonable price (especially for lunch) for the quality and quantity. I will continue to frequent Wafu-ya and you'll probably see my friend and I at the sushi counter for lunch twice a week.
