Nice pub to have drinks with lots your mates. Good variety of beers and Food is great as well. There is lots of sitting place, so feels cramped or crowded and has a good view of cathedral as well

I'd describe this place as one of the most friendly in Canterbury. Starting with the warm welcome, the staff are friendly and chatty.
We were seated in the back which is the area where they give you table service.
the waiter was rushed off his feet but he didn't forget about us and let us know the food was going to take longer than normal due to the big group that had just arrived. It didn't matter as see had all afternoon!
The house speciality pies are amazing. I had the beer and red wine, tender and cooked to perfection whilst my vegan friend had the vegan Lentil Cottage pie. Both delicious!
Prices are reasonable. Quality amazing. We will return!

Wonderful location, staff carefully asked about allergies, only when we were leaving nobody bothered to say good bye. Food was good, my ribeye steak was a bit chewy but it had been nicely marinated so the flavour was good. Ham and eggs was nicely juicy and aromatic. We liked our beers. Nice interior with references to the history of the place. The only shortcoming was the tables, which were sticky with beer and wet. Other than that, a lovely place.

Good restaurant with a decent menu. The place can get pretty packed, especially bank holidays. They have outdoor seats and tables, and it's located right next to the Canterbury Cathedral. The only downside was that they didn't have roast anymore, nor steak. It's worth trying it.

Very popular place - book in advance! Best pie I ever had (Christmas) and drinks were good. Others had Christmas dinner and said it was superb. Took 45 min but it was worth it and staff so warm and welcoming.

This was out first time here. The place was full when we entered for a drink or two. This place is popular among local so I would advise you to book in advance which we should have done it. But me made an impromptu plan to go here. Server were friendly and cooperative since we were walk in and showed us a table. Overall a nice experience, the place was buzzing, exotic mulled wine smell as you enter and reasonable drink prices. Its right opposite cathedral so the location is easy too.

Good, depending on the time you visit. Ocean Fish and Chips nice, crisp and tasty. Improved from my last visit of months ago. Clean tables, seats and toilets.

We went to Old Buttermarket on a whim as we needed lunch. It was a fantastic idea. We ordered the duck leg and ale pie (Right pie) and wild boar and chorizo pie (left pie) as well as a pint of Pepsi max and pineapple juice. It all came to below £20 per person. The bar staff were lovely. I asked about the pies and they recommended the duck pie and the two were professional and quick. The food was incredible. I had the Boar and Chorizo pie and the crust and the gravy in the pie was amazing. The Duck and ale pie was something else though. The duck was cooked so well and the gravy inside was fantastic. 10/10 would recommend.

So glad the owner let us off the hook for not eating our vegetables 😅! In all honesty though, this is a great place with great service, friendly people, and amazing food! We got their pie and drink special and tried the Steak & Nicholson’s Pale Ale Pie and Sweet Potato & Goat Cheese Pie and they were absolutely amazing. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting the area!

We had my Grandsons christening at The Old Buttermarket and it was a lovely occasion. The part we had the event in was away from the main bar of the pub and it was perfect for us. The food was absolutely fantastic and enjoyed by everyone. Our waitress Rose was so lovely and attentive and went around to the guests several times taking the drinks orders and was generally so helpful and professional, a real asset to the establishment. Thank you to all the staff there who made the day so special for us.

Great food but must get in early as they ran out of menu options but still was tastiest burger I had... Very freindly and dogs welcome too.. My only gripe was price of two normal bottles of coke and two pints of berry cider was in my opinion too expensive...nearly £20 ....food was exceptional price so was very good..

Very nice to sit and drink a beer or just sit and eat something. Very good service. I just thought it wasn't very warm inside.

We had a celebratory lunch for a group of 11 of us today. The food was delicious and the timing between the courses perfect. Good selection of drinks as well. The staff were really great, efficient, warm and friendly.

Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, delicious food, served indoors or out in the old Buttermarket. Ancient pub with a history dating back to the medieval period, and with tunnels leading to the Cathedral. According to a local historian whom we met during our visit, late arriving pilgrims would pay a groat (4 pennies) to a Guardian Monk to take them through the tunnels to see the Holy Shrine of St Thomas Becket of Canterbury. Delicious Sunday roasts and traditional pub food served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere! Love this place!
