Cardiff's best breakfast place, I'm lucky to have such a great and affordable breakfast next to my student house. I used to pack one for lunch when I was writing my dissertation. The staff are very kind and the quality of the breakfast is very good.

As many of my reviews will show - I do like a cafe and a cooked breakfast, so I’m not sure how I’ve managed to miss this place for so long. Staff are next level friendly and chatty and the food was superb. I was barely sat down with my coffee in the covered garden area before my breakfast was in front of me, cooked perfectly and piping hot.
This is really straightforward cafe food cooked superbly with fresh ingredients. The prices are also startlingly good value, both for the quality and quantity but also compared to others in the Cardiff area. Definitely worth popping in if passing or making a trip for.

Elmer’s has been a firm favourite of mine for years, I’ll always keep returning, it is definitely the nicest cooked breakfast in Cardiff but also the cheapest, it’s a traditional fry up, always piping hot and plenty of it.
I’m yet to try anything else on the menu because every time I visit I’m so tempted to go with what I know I love, the breakfast!
10/10 from me! Definitely give this place a try if you’re looking for outstanding service and food!

We went there for a real British food experience, and it was brilliant! The staffs were very nice and kind to us. They even offer double/mini/vegetarian(which is the one we took) options as well. With the jacket potato, you can order different toppings.
Every single menu is made with a lot of efforts, thus they’re all so yummy. When I ordered the chocolate milkshake, a gentleman who served it asked me if it was sweet enough, which was very considerate thing to do.
No wonder why this places is always full of people! Thank you so much for our very pleasant experience (: definitely recommend it both for the locals and visitors in Wales!

Fantastic service. Amazing breakfast. Very busy cafe. Waiting time for food was minimal. Owner could not do enough for us. Will be calling here again very soon

The value of Elmer’s is unmatched in the area, staff are all lovely and I have many fond memories of breakfasts here. The food is of genuinely good quality and they are not too shy with portions. It gets really busy at times, but this is only because it is such a good, unpretentious place.

Delicious proper breakfast, good cup of tea, great value for money and the loveliest people working flat out to get your order cooked and in front of you asap. THE best place for brekkie in Cardiff!

One of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a while! We decided to give this cafe a go on our visit to Cardiff as it was only down the road from where we were staying, and we were very impressed! Only £5.25 for a full English breakfast, what a bargain!

What a gorgeous little gem in the capitol of Wales!
If you're looking for a good old full breakfast, then Elmers is the place to go! We were on a road trip across the country, and in need of some well-earned fuel before setting off back up north. Finding this delightful cafe just round the corner, we decided to follow our noses and were plentifully rewarded for doing so!
The menu at Elmers covers the classic breakfast options, with sandwiches and full plates on offer, as well as several other meals that can cater for other appetites, including pies and roasts. Through the main cafe is an additional seating area, though we stayed in the main shop. Staff are friendly and courteous, working to making everything as delicious as possible.
Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, we shall certainly be sure to pop in when in Wales next time!

Perfect food. It’s been a while since I’ve had breakfast here, but it was so good that I had to think of it. On the last day of my trip to Cardiff a few friends took me here and I definitely advise everyone else to go here too. Great service, not too expensive and delicious!

Greeted by a well dressed, extremely kind gentleman. A really nice guy. Service was excellent and food was great! We had the breakfast which we could substitute anything we didn't want for stuff we did which was ace! Good value food! Excellent customer service. I had veggie breakfast (foreground) with everything it came with on the menu and a really good coffee as well! My girlfriend had the mini breakfast and substituted a couple of items on the menu! Lovely seating area outside at the back as well!

Just had a great breakfast at Elmers: a nice piece of bacon in particular. Service was quick, the food and plates lovely and hot. I loved that there seemed to be lotsbof regulars and staff were friendly. Menu was mostly breakfast, sandwiches, jackets and a couple of specials that also looked good. Will be back!

I'm not a big fan of cafe's on the Crwys rd the outdoor seating is always to close to passers by, you feel to exposed and the interior of this cafe has no charm.
The general menu is aimed at breakfast and lunch. The main problem is I felt like I should eat up and move on.
I prefer the cafes around the Salisbury road area.

Elmer's Cafe let me down once. And I'll never forgive it.
It was the great breakfast hike of 2009. There was an aftershow party for a performance of Macbeth I'd been involved in, and we had adjourned to a cast member's house after the post-post-show celebrations ended (READ: after the restaurant owner had kicked us out at 3am). The cast member's house was at the top of Allensbank Road. We had our fun and, she eventually persuaded the last four of us to get the Hell out at almost 9am.
"I KNOW!" I said, with all the energy of the alcoholic, "Let's go to Elmer's! For breakfast!" Somehow I managed to not fall in the road and get run over by a passing heavy load vehicle.
9am, Sunday morning. Elmer was asleep and he wasn't getting out of bed for anything at such an obscene time in the AM. Instead, we were left to wander dejectedly down to AJs on City Road. I say dejectedly. It actually went like this:
"Elmer's is closed. Let's go to bed." said Ana, my friend.
"I KNOW!" I said, completely undeflated, and still managing to not fall in the road, "LET'S GO TO AJ's!"
AJ's was closed. I don't know how I survived the walk home. I seem to remember hands around my throat....
When Elmer's doesn't betray you, however, the food is eminently serviceable for the post-drink refuel.

I suppose that there is nothing wrong with Elmer's (also known, confusingly, as the Take A Break Cafe - although I'm fairly sure it says Elmer's above the door) but it just doesn't live up to the standards set for the cafes on Crwys Road. Why would you choose to stop in here when you could go a little further up the hill and find yourself in Mad Hatters? Or Cafe Calcio? Or Cafe Atma, if you're looking for something a little more hippy. The service here is good, that's true, and there is a 10% discount for students. However, there was not one single person in there under the age of 60 when I went in. The discount, then, is definitely just an attempt to get a younger market. The food is alright - good but not as enjoyable as the other cafes... All in all, there's nothing wrong here but I'd send you up the hill if I liked you at all.
