Good, honest food and friendly service. There's nothing pretentious about this restaurant from the menu right through to the decor. The food was fresh and flavoursome and there were items not seen in many other menus. We shared a dip and bread and the dolmas. Dip & bread good, dolmas great. For mains we shared a lamb grill which included one mince kebab and one fillet. Both good but I'd go back for the mince one. The other dish was a lovely moist chicken dish, served with a rice with pomegranate and a sauce. All good and ridiculously cheap; all this with 2 soft drinks was £26. Staff lovely as well.
Great atmosphere, decent service, lovely food and best of all, great prices. Looking forward to our next visit.
January always seems to be the hardest month to cobble together restaurants to review on the blog. Mrs G is on a diet and so won’t consider eating anything other than rice cakes, salad and 0% fat Greek yoghurt. Even I’m feeling ashamed of the girth I’ve gained from my winter diet of port and toffifee. It’s for this reason I found myself eating a solo kebab on the walk home from work on Friday night; it's a hard life. Mowlana, a Persian restaurant on the awkwardly located Four Elms Road, was the venue of choice. The kebab – Makhsoos (£12) Meat – One skewer of unfeasibly tender chicken shish, which had been char-grilled to perfection, and a wafer thin lamb fillet. Whilst the lamb was well flavoured, it had cooked so quickly on the grill that it barely had a chance to gain any smoky goodness. Bread – A whopper of a naan (£1) – soft, elastic, crisp and the size of two dinner plates. Salad – A fresh selection of tomato, cucumber and lettuce. A wonderfully smoky, char-grilled tomato stol
The owner was so lovely!!!
Out off this part of Cardiff it's really your best bet.
The food is delicious, fresh, special mention for the so so so good baklava.
Wonderful atmosphere and lovely staff. Delicious food with big protions at a really good price. Highly recommended.
First time at Mowlana and was blown away by the quality of food along with generous portions. Excellent service, very kind and attentive. Sea bass and mixed grill were delicious. Highly recommend and we would eat here again when visiting Cardiff!
Visited Cardiff recently to go to my pre-pandemic favourite spot for Persian food, the food were lovely and the service is really nice.
The price is still a super deal and we came all the way from London to get one of UK’s best Persian restaurant.
No other place does a Koobideh as good as Mowlana Cardiff. Keep it up!
Found this nice Persian restaurant on my way back from Cardiff to Bath and went there to order “Koobide” for takeaway.
Felt like home when the owner offered me a cup of tea while my food was getting prepared, exactly the same vibe like Iran.
Really enjoyed the food, will definitely try it again when I come to Cardiff.
My family and I had a lovely time at Mowlana. The food was tremendous, with the best hummus we've ever had, and delicious almond cake. Rami, Soheil and the team are lovely people and do a great job hosting and cooking. We'll be back and recommend it to friends.
My partner and I were on our second night of our visit to Cardiff and were looking for a place to eat when we chanced upon this lovely restaurant. We both never had Persian food before and decided to take a risk as it was something new.
As we walked in, the staff were really friendly and welcoming. We were sat at our choice of table and my partner and I picked the corner where the ambience was quite relaxed and comfortable.
The food was simply mind blowing and we didn't wait as too long for it to arrive. I had the sea bass which was fried to perfection: the meat was moist and flaky and not overtly greasy. The saffron rice it came with was soft and fragrant and just went well with the fish. My partner's chicken Joojeh was deeply flavoured, also with saffron and was tender and quite juicy. Also, I've tried other stuffed grape leaves in other restaurants but Mowlana's Dolmeh were probably the best ones I've had. The herbs and spices used were a real treat to the senses.
Overall, a fantastic restaurant which highly deserves a visit.
Some of the best Persian food we have ever eaten. The owner and his staff were very friendly and accommodating. As tourists we didn't have a lot of cash on us, so we needed to find an ATM to withdraw money to pay for the food. The owner was nice enough to give us a discount for our trouble.
A beautiful place for a meal! Authentic, fresh Persian food (and I should know married to an Iranian) with a lovely atmosphere, great prices and friendly staff. Cannot recommend this place enough!
Perfect, best experience of Iranian food. 5 star for ambiance, food and service.
Staff was very accomodating and suggested that we are ordering a lot of food, which we realised afterwards!
Ordered a mix grilled platter which is served with 3 portion of rice and a separate kobaida (which was unnecesary).
Platter is enough for any meat lover.
Also, ordered starter - humus with naan, which was very delicious and fullfiling.
Would recommend it to anyone with a taste for Iranian food.
