This is one of those rare vegetarian only restaurants. The ambience was great. It is a Gujarati (Place in India), themed restaurant with lovely vegetarian dishes on the offer. The service was super quick for me. If you are going for lunch, I would suggest that you try out the Gujarati thali. Thali is a kind of rarity on the UK. I tried the Thali and the VFS both of them were really good. To top it off we had different lassis and all of them were really very very good. If you are in Cardiff and looking for a vegetarian only restaurants this is the one I would suggest. The restaurant location is not in the city centre but on the opposite side. As a tourist I had walked from Cardiff central. Definitely try this one out. Please note I have seen this in Cardiff now, there is always a 10% service charge added on the receipt for eatin.

We popped in before heading to the Tramshed for a gig and was not disappointed. The masala and chai tea was very much appreciated as I was freezing cold before going in. After looking at the menu, (which has so much choice), we decided on two Gujarati thali ‘s so we could try a bit of everything. Food came quickly and it was really tasty. If we are back in the area again we will definitely pop back in.

Came in around 5pm. Ordered chilli baji and a masala dosa. Resturant was quiet, I guess it was in the middle of lunch and dinner time. So the dishes came quite quick. Chili baji was tasty and served with tamarind sauce. The Dosa it’s self was tasty. Lovely tasty of the potato masala! Sambar also had a delicious authentic taste. The only part of the meal which was a little disappointing for me (hence 4 star apposed to 5), was the Coconut chutney. As it seemed it was just coconut yoghurt. Despite the menu saying all their chutneys are made on site. All in all a nice place to come for Indian vegetarian food. Huge menu with dishes from north and south India at affordable prices. Very authentic and friendly staff. Would visit again if I come to Cardiff.

Amazing food. Pepping hot and great taste. They are more sort of Gujrati cuisine but food is Finger-Licking Do visit this one whenever you visit cardiff

Best and most affordable thali I’ve had in the UK. Puris were great and very generous portion for a thali. I’m convinced anyone who writes a bad review does so for personal gain, because I don’t have a bad thing to say.

Great atmosphere, lovely food which also included a lot of gluten-free. This was my first time at this delightful restaurant and definitely not my last.

One of my favorite places to have Indian food!! Really cozy atmosphere and the food is so flavourful you never know what to choose from the menu. The stuff there are also very friendly and welcoming, makes you feel like home:)

Best restaurant in Wales! The food is consistently amazing and they're a friendly place to visit. One bad thing is the smaller portions of the thalis - why the shrinkage?

The Vegetarian Food Studio is one of my favourite places for food, I cannot recommend it highly enough! As a vegetarian it’s nice that the entire menu’s vegetarian with lots of vegan options. Everything I’ve had from here over the years has been lovely. I’ve taken non-vegetarians here for food and they’ve enjoyed it too. Favourites of mine are the Dosas, which have a side of Daal soup. The Mango Lassi’s lovely too. The Thaali’s also really nice, you get a selection of different things to try and it changes each day. The mixed platter is nice, you get a lot of starters there. You can also buy some of the snacks to take away with you from the counter. It’s a nice relaxed and informal place to have food. I like the murals on the wall and the embroidered tablecloths under the glass on the tables. It’s an unpretentious place which lets the food be the star of the show.

If you are a veggie or a vegan and happen to be in Cardiff make the trip here. They are specialists and the menu shows this. Great staff, banging food. Yum.

The Gujurati Thali Special is incredible value and absolutely delicious - if you still have space afterwards (it's a hefty portion) the shrikand is well worth a go too. Nice family, nice food 👌

Highly recommended. I do not know if it is authentic or not (as I have never been to India before) but from my own perspective, it tasted good and the price was fair. Customer service is also great.

Loved this place. Must visit for authentic Indian vegetarian food. Lovely hosts and beautiful ambience. Food menu is really rich to select from. One thing to note that food quantity is really huge so don’t order in haste. Take help from hosts which we didn’t 😬. I’m sure you’re going to love this experience. Thank you team Vegetarian Food Studio.

This amazing place serves mouthwatering food. The service is quick, friendly and informative. Every member of staff took care of us and made sure we had a great meal. The music is calming but fun, the food is delicious and tastes amazing. The portions are huge. The value for money is incredible. Two people ate happily for £31 and that's impressive. Worth the visit to support our local family owned businesses.

Not much to say: the original and still the best vegetarian Indian food around. We have now been to India three times and can compare the real world with the restaurants – and this one is true to its origins.

Not recommended at all. Food was not tasty and stale. Staff did not know anything about the food. Extremely poor quantity and very expensive. Very unhappy.

I order a student tiffin from here for only £5 per night, and I love the quantity and quality of food. There is always one Gujrati daal, one vegetable (sabji), rice, and 3 rotis that are sent. I feel that VFS should give the students an option as to whether or not they want the same daal on a daily basis, as not everyone may like it.

Liked their food... Service and ambience as well.
Methi paratha (thepla) is amazing...
Onion pakora( bhaji) not good as they fry it again
aloo tikki chaat wonderful and nice crispy
Thaali is just ok ok not the real gujarati thali.
Dosa i would say is fine again but coconut chutney is what the cook need to learn still. The café itself is unpretentious and a little basic, but clean and bright; the first thing I noticed when I walked in was the array of laminated press cuttings on the wall. The Vegetarian Food Studio has been featured by a number of titles including The Observer Food Monthly, Stella Magazine, The South Wales Echo and theguardian.co.uk. I found it totally charming that they had lovingly laminated each review and stuck them proudly on the wall, and it only added to my anticipation.

Even though the Vegetarian Food Studio’s special thali is cheap as chips, the flavours and textures on show didn’t blow me away. Perhaps there are richer pickings to be had from their main menu.
