My wife and I are just moving to the area and we were looking for somewhere to have a date night amongst the dozens of bars and restaurants in Cardiff city. Boy did we find somewhere. The Potted Pig is amazing. It's a tiny door with a lift or a set of stairs to go down into a low lit restaurant. As soon as you walk down you are greeted by friendly staff. They were more than happy to accommodate my peanut allergy and brought me a menu once they had seated us which had things that weren't safe for me marked off. The ambient light is just perfect for a romantic quiet meal. They immediately offer a drinks menu and water (tap or bottled) while you look at the menu.
The food was just delicious. The starters were well done and neither of us had room for a dessert.
We had mocktails and the noise was at the perfect level so we could talk without raising our voices.
The waiter was lovely too, we got chatting as he'd asked when seating us whether we'd been before and we mentioned that we're new to the area. He suggested a few bars to go and visit as we wanted to sample the night life a bit more.
It's definitely a place worth vising. We will be making this a regular visit as it's just such a lovely place.

The Potted Pig is a great spot for a date night or an occasion and my favorite restaurant in Cardiff! Everything we ordered was delicious! I loved the potted pig and the ribs, which just fell off the bone!

Known for one of the best restaurants in the area and very tough to get into. I was able to slide in as a walk in and though the greater and service has been attentive thus far the area that I was placed in was secluded from the main restaurant with the décor of an old cellar.
I ordered the Chicharrón’s, duck pate, ribeye, sticky toffee pudding and the Cabernet Sauvignon.
The chicharron’s were very dry but also super crunchy, the duck leg pate was cool and didn’t spread well but was well flavored to the salty side however was cut by the mustard greens and Gergen pickles. The ribeye was ordered medium rare but came medium. The flavor was well seasoned on the salty side that was again cut by the side salad of Cabbage, and Lakota topped with garlic butter.
The dessert was topped with a sticky toffee bread pudding was the star. Light, fluffy, and served pipping hot while drenched in a light toffee syrup and a side scoop of vanilla ice cream. The food was amazing, the service was very attentive, the only negative is the isolation but I’m guessing that with a reservation you could be in the main rooms with everyone else. In short this was an excellent birthday meal and has me excited to see what the next birthday brings.

Ate in for dinner. Delicious crab ravioli. My husband’s favourite was the Welsh rarebit. Expensive but you can anticipate that from the menu. Staff were helpful without being overly attentive. Atmosphere was interesting, like being in a secret cave!

After a day of visiting castles and even Tintern Abbey, it was great to get into The Potted Pig and have a great dinner. The ribs were falling of the bone, but I have to say they had more of a spicy kick than advertised. The lamb chop was tender and the pork belly was savory and crispy in parts.
We had a bottle of Absolue Négrette that paired well with all our meals. It made for a lovely end to a very busy day.

Amazing quality good with a fabulous range of choice. Great drinks and lovely atmosphere.
Staff are attentive and knowledgeable and a great experience. I would thoroughly recommend.

Sunday roast. Good but there's a discretionary tip added to the bill which most places do these days and they shouldn't. Should be up to the customer to decide how much they think they would like to tip the staff and not the other way around.
And I know we can ask the remove it from the bill, but just makes the customer feel uncomfortable.

Nice menu.
The place is OK.
Service is a bit slow between dishes and drinks, like 20-25 minutes and restaurant was almost empty.
Sirloin was really good (not cheap either) but I would put the sauce aside, not cover it for such expensive cut.
Greens are £5 but nothing special.
Fishcake was good.
Leak croquete was also good.
They seem to use mint sauce a bit too much, even for salad dressing.
Service "optional" but it's already included in the bill. Some places now seem to ask you before including it but it should be something you to leave as cash or machine to ask for gratuity.

We went here after receiving vouchers as a gift. The food was fantastic and it had an intimate atmosphere. Staff were very friendly and helpful

Absolutely delicious and amazing food. I felt like such a tasty meal not in the UK, but somewhere in France haha soooo tender meat and unbelievable combination of ingredients with amazing presentation. The waitress was extremely friendly and helpful and provided the highest level of service.
The interior was cozy but some parts were a bit strange for me, but the food and service made it the most!!!
Definitely will come back and if I could, I’d give 10 stars!!!

Loved the food, loved the atmosphere, everything about this place is great. I was having a hard time getting a good martini in the UK and Potted Pig delivered. The staff was also super sweet and gave us some bar recommendations for our night out in Cardiff.

A little gem close to the Castle.
We entered into the Potted Pig without much expectations only to be blown out of the water. The short walk downstairs rewarded us with a tasteful ambiance that maybe could do with a slightly brighter lightning.
The menu is well presented and has a fizzy twist to it: every single recipe has been expertly retouched by the chef with a little twang.
We opted for Welsh dishes and were not disappointed at all. Both the lamb and the pork were perfect cooked and had something surprising both in the presentation and the taste. The lamb was delicate and accompanied with a redcurrant sauce that simply made it excellent. I strongly reccomend it together with the Rarebit!

It was absolutely a great Welsh Michelin star dining experience here. Paid for just £25 for 3 course set, with the signature potted pig and beef brisket.
The potted pig is just gracious, with really mixture of flavour, and truly delicious. Highly recommend if you are visiting Cardiff.

If you want to avoid the typical tourist trap restaurants in the centre of Cardiff, then this just might be the place for you. The exterior looks a bit grim and doesn’t have a lot of signage, but the reviews are enough to get us to go in and we didn’t regret our decision. Cat was a great server and had wonderful suggestions – I especially enjoyed my seaweed gin. This is one of those restaurants where even if I’m in the city just for a week I’ll likely go back more than once. It gets my highest recommendation.

Came here for a Sunday roast while visiting Cardiff and really enjoyed the meal. I got the chicken and my husband got the steak and we both really enjoyed our meals. We got the potted pig for the starter and I was hesitant but it was really good. The cheesy cauliflower was a highlight for me as well as the sticky toffee pudding. The ambience is very nice and makes for a fun time.

We just had a fantastic dinner here 11/06/22. Friendly staff, the 2 guys hosting at the entrance and lovely waitress who served us. A rare occurrence for us to make it out without the kids in tow and we are so glad we came here. The food was brilliant. Potted Pig starter and Duck breast & duck leg rosti main both exceptionally tasty. Very pleasant cocktails and cremant too! Thank You so much for a lovely experience. Hopefully be back soon!

We were wowed with the food and service at The Potted Pig! The wow especially from the pork tenderloin dish that was both scrumptious and noisy. What we thought might be sizzling from the pork cheek was intact from the pop-rocks exploding atop the spinach. It nit only added a bit of fun but zing as well. The Welsh rarebit and Potted Pig firsts were yummy while we were delighted with the smoked chicken risotto. Service was attentive without disruptive from our young, blond, female server (forgot her name so sorry). Please see the attached pictures of our mains. Presentation was impressive.
