I went to Zio Piero last night for the first time since they reopened. I had a pizza, a glass of wine, and a panna cotta. Wow, it's fabulous! The place has been modernised so that it feels more contemporary, but it hasn't changed beyond recognition, and still has that homely feel.
The service is great - very welcoming, and they take great pride in the food. I'm glad to report it's still the same kind of menu, with some of the old favourites and some new ones too. I'm delighted that they make the desserts themselves on site instead of buying them in (I always find that a disappointment in some otherwise good restaurants). The panna cotta (I chose the strawberry sauce - home-made also!) was honestly the best I've ever had.
I'll definitely come back with my friends! Thank you for a great dinner.

Husb and I visited Cardiff and were strolling along looking for somewhere nice to eat and spotted Zio Piero. So glad we went in, it's a lovely family-run Italian restaurant with friendly staff and really nice decor. And the food is fantastic! We shared a bowl of marinated olives, delicious, served with two types of warm homemade bread which was gorgeous. I had the best Caesar Salad I've ever eaten for my main course and Husb had a Chicken Cacciatore which he raved about. We were too full for desserts. This will be our go-to restaurant in Cardiff from now on.
So good to be back new owners new menu but still great food wine and service!
We are from the US on vacation and happened upon this wonderful little Italian restaurant that has been in the area since 1989. The owner was very friendly and was genuinely happy to see us foreigners and serve us his food. The chef, she is from Romania, and very nice as well. The portions were large and very delicious and worth every penny. Our waiter was a Italian young guy, maybe his nephew? But very nice and courteous as well. If we ever find ourselves back in Cardiff, we'll definitely look them up again. Highly recommended!
We went in this restaurant one Saturday one week ago, and it was fantastic, the atmosphere and the decorations are rustic and nostalgic taking you back 30 years. I had a nice portion of spezzatino and it was superb, nice quality and it brings me home. Nice staff, funny and always helpful. I raccomend this restaurant to all of Italian enjoyers.

A marvellous restaurant, a wonderful experience. I would recommend this italian cuisine to all. Prices are spot on. The extra care on valentines night was truly polite & professional. A ray of sunlight for all ages to enjoy.

The kind of Italian restaurant where Italians actually go. Feels a thousand miles away from the chain restaurants in Cardiff bay.
To be honest we chose this restaurant because we couldn't get a table elsewhere, but how glad we were. A fantastic meal in great surroundings with great service. Very reasonsbly priced. Can't wait to go back.
I was so pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. It is such a shame it is not as popular as it deserves to be. Coming here with my partner, we both loved the kind and attentive behavior from the waiter and adored the chef's food. We were given complementary olives with homemade bread, a romanian starter as the chef is romanian and also homemade cookies. I have never been to a place where the kitchen offers so many homemade products, and all for free. I ordered pate and calamari as starters for us which were delicious. The bisteka pasta ordered as a main was absolutely amazing. My partner said the same about her steak. I will keep coming here for sure as I'm impatient to try the other dishes
Went to Zio Piero with my mum tonight. All I have to say what a fantastic restaurant. The staff were so lovely and the food amazing. I am local and will most definitely be back. Can't recommend highly enough. Had such a wonderful evening. Thank you to all the staff .
