Had dinner at Cardiff Gate yesterday. As I walked in I was welcomed by the familiar roast dinner smell.
The carver and server didn’t fail to impress and the actual dinner was stunning. I even saved room for a Toby pudding. Well done Cardiff Gate.
Great carvery. I love this place. Yeah sure, it has its bad days just like any other eatery but mainly and more often than not, the food here is great. It's a pity that some of the local chavs go here though. I'd ban chavs and their chavvy kids. Dirty stinking foul mouthed feral chavvy chavs.
Took my daughter who's recently started having seizures out for a little break from the house. a lovely lady helped us to our table and then came and helped my daughter to get her food so I could get mine to. She even sat next to her while my daughter had a seizure and I was finishing getting food.
Going out can be tricky, but what a difference it makes having a member of staff on the ball. It made both myself and my daughter feel at ease.

We had our own part of the building. A little side room because of the size of our party. The place was fairly quite because of the time and day. Nice food. Nice setting. The desserts were huge portion..great few hours ..
Came for lunch last Thursday. Food was good. Mainly wanted to give a shout out to our server, Alicia, who couldn’t have been kinder or more friendly. One of our group is elderly…. and Alicia couldn’t have been more understanding as we moved tables to find an easily accessible spot…..and queries about the puddings were easily explained….. all with good humour and an ever present smile. Thanks Alicia for adding to our visit.

The food was delicious, well cooked and tasty. Lovely gravy, everything was hot.
Long wait for the carvery, lengthy queue.
Slow service at the bar.
Some areas hectic as it was very busy.
Good facilities.
Would recommend, booking not essential, but for a few people would be advisable.
The staff are lovely especially the girl at the bar, the food is generally lovely too, but quite often they run out of stuff so can be a bit limited with the selection. My personal fave is the sliced potato in a sauce, not sure what they do with it, but it's lush!
My main reason for my review today is the fact that the app has been out of action for a while now, so we don't get our offers coming through, can u sort out plz?

I was at Toby last week, and an elderly lady walked in with her husband and carer. Whilst the husband and carer got their food, the waitress sat with the lady who had dementia and was so amazing with her that I actually thought they were related. This type of service goes beyond, and it actually made me cry. I could only hope that when my parents get old, they are treated in this way by someone who is caring and clearly has a heart of gold. The lady is a credit to your establishment.
Visited yesterday evening. Becky served us with raffle ticket number 361. Despite this insentive to write a 5 star review for a chance to win a 2 course meal, we did have quite a nice visit. Food was very good and server was lovely. There was a bit of an unpleasant incident going on at reception when we arrived. Felt sorry for the people in front of us who were basically told they could not accept walk ins. They were very upset about this. Strongly recommended booking on line before you arrive. Apart from that it was a pleasant visit.
We visited recently (ticket 247), the staff were so very helpful to our group. One of whom was immunocompromised and also had a severe nut allergy as well as being in a wheelchair.
Being unable to eat from a buffet, the front of house and kitchen staff made it possible for her to have a roast dinner that came direct from the kitchen. She was over the moon and this meant more than you'll ever realise.
