Great food, friendly staff, and most importantl plenty of TVs that showed all the big matches!

It's the whole package. I proper pub. They don't tell you off if you laugh too! Not like some other pubs not so far away!
Some quality mains at rock bottom prices, a decent quiz, some pool tables, what more could you want from a student local! I still go back here often
First visit in here in almost 20 years and pleasantly surprised.

Great traditional local pub full of characters and character 😄 pool tables and food, sports being shown. seating area outside pub to watch the world go by in Cathay's. not too far to walk to city centre.
Lovely local pub in Cathays. Very good value beer and loads of screens for the football and rugby. Recommended
Amazing pub for a chilled drink or for a bigger night out. Staff or always lovely and quick to service. A special thank you to Laura, Liam and Izzy for making my visits awesome. Pub Quiz is always good on a Thursday with Nathan brining comedy and good causes to the events. One thing I will say Richard needs some more training.
Such a great venue, so accommodating when we have reserved tables and there are people on there! Lovely staff willing to go out of their way to improve our night every week 10/10
Always a good night the macky. Staff are 10/10 and guaranteed 3/4 new friends by the end of the night. Love the place
Nice little community pub. Guinness is good and well pulled. Will be checking out their pub quiz on a Thursday night
As a pub it was amazing. Staff are nice and work quickly even with large lines and the space is just small enough that it feels cozy and very comfortable to socialise in with a big group.
When busy bathrooms get a little crowded but it was not a big issue.
Lovely pub, good atmosphere (especially on a Wednesday), great service and two pool tables. Will definitely be going again.
The Macky, this place is the absolute pinnacle of student life in Cathays. Laura and her amazing team make anyone and everyone feel welcome in my second home. Make sure you get down for the quiz on Thursdays from September, Tom, Danny and James will be pouring some stupendous pints and offering some unbeatable chat. Couldn't recommend enough - quite simply a must if you're in the area. Love you all xxx
Good food, good drinks, not too expensive by today's standards. There's a student room and a locals room, so if you identify as one or the other, there is a space for you.
Busy bar frequented by students mainly but has its share of regulars too. Good for watching sports on multiple tv's. Outdoor seating in the beer garden. 2 pool tables. Jukebox and fruit machines. Decent prices on food and drinks. Great staff. Can get busy especially on match days. Great atmosphere though.
Good place to watch live sports especially if you're planning on having food with the game. Wide variety of games shown. There is a projector and a few screens. If more than one game is on, the staff will accommodate for that with different screens showing different games. Very student based area so the crowd is mixed between students and locals. Food is nice as it's general UK pub good. Good deals and prices. Would recommend
Really fantastic pub, excellent food at very reasonable prices..attracts many ustomers particularly cheerful, polite students from Cardiff University..my wife and me certainly enjoyed our visit to thus great little Gem.
Travelled from Swansea for a weekend in Cardiff, we picked the Mackintosh to watch the Wales Vs Australia game...what a Great pub, staff were polite helpful and very accomodating..we ordered a drinks package on line before we arrived and it was brought to the table within minutes of sitting down.. 10/10
Went to the mackintosh hotel for the football, Josh our host was amazing! Great COVID procedures, although the app for track and trace and ordering is a little confusing. Josh took our first order and explained how to use the app properly. Thank you so much 😊 would definitely go there again!
