Excellent place, we went to L'enclume one night and Rogan & co the next. Its a different experience, much more relaxed and cosy, very much like a good country pub but its clean, tidy and almost minimalist while still being cosy and warm. The food however is most definitely not country pub, its top of the line food, its as good as the food from L'enclume but instead of 17 dishes on a tasting menu this is starter, main and pudding. with an optional snacks as a starter. Once again its mouthwateringly good food, served in a relaxed setting. Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere it is excellent and worth a visit.
We ate here for my sister's wedding meal yesterday and I just had to jump on here and say thankyou for making it such an enjoyable event. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. The staff were so attentive and they just couldn't do enough for us. The menu was lovely and varied, and they catered for anybody who had special requirements without hesitation. The food came out speedily despite us all ordering on the day. Special thanks especially to the gentleman that greeted us at the door and talked through the menu with us. It was an experience thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks Rogan & Co!
I love my cheesecakes and seriously can't say no to any good cheesecake. The one I have from Rogan and co is definitely the Best cheesecake I ever have.
The mains were nice too of coz. I can have my entré as main any time. The service was lovely.
I've not been to Rogan & co before, Simon Rogan's other restaurant in Cartmel. I get the impression that previously it was just simple bistro food, looking at old reviews anyway. That has now changed with the recent appointment of Head Chef Kevin Tickle and a refurbishment. Apparently, Mr Tickle has been an important part of the L'Enclume kitchen for the last few years, and now with the expansion of the Rogan 'empire' to Claridges , he's been given full control of Rogan & co. So we were very excited to visit on Friday, we were going to Cartmel just to eat there. Mrs Bacon had taken the day off especially. That gives you an idea of how seriously we take our food! It was a beautiful day too, the drive up from Manchester is all part of the anticipation of eating some seriously top class cuisine. After a brief wander with the dog, down by the stream that flows next to the little restaurant, we went in early to make sure we had secured our favoured seat by the window.
The main course was Cumbrian rose veal with rainbow chard, potato cake and sage. The veal was cooked sous-vide and then browned prior to serving. This was a very nice piece of meat that gained a bit of richness from the strong jus. The rainbow chard provided a nice fresh contrast to the veal. Highlight of the dish for me was the delicate potato and sage cakes that totally transcended their modest description. Fantastic flavour enhanced by inclusion of goat’s cheese in the cakes.
The next dish of Confit potatoes, lovage emulsion & caper was straight out of the Rogan repertoire. The confit potatoes were silky smooth, contrasted perfectly by the crisp potato skin using a technique seen at its two Michelin starred sister restaurant on artichoke skins.
this was one of the most excellent dining experiences i’ve ever had. the quality of the food was incredible and the presentation put it over the top. i enjoyed the dairy free menu and have included pictures of each course. i hope i am able to go back and enjoy this restaurant again!
What a fantastic dining experience we had! Each course is beautifully presented - I hardly wanted to mess it up with a bite but of course that’s impossible because the aromas and colors. The addition of flowers as not just garnish but as an edible part of the dish was so fun - never eaten a chrysanthemum before. Highly recommend the wine pairing. The service was just as great and not overly fussy which I liked. It’s the little touches that make this place different and it didn’t disappoint.
A great experience. Food was excellent with a special mention for the skate main course.
The outstanding thing for me was the service. All the staff were young people who were polite, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.
Highly recommended if you get the chance.
Had a fabulous time both staying at the hotel and eating at the restaurant. Excellent food served by attentive and courteous staff. Great explanations of paired wines. Lovely atmosphere. Breakfast equally very good.
Well worth a visit.
This was one of our best dining experiences, ever. Worth the visit. Great to have an "affordable" Michelin restaurant in our area.
We met up with friends in Cartmel and they had booked a meal here. It's not what we would normally choose as it's not dog friendly. The food was amazing, really tasty and fresh with extra in between courses that had unexpected ingredients, all beautifully presented. I found the service a bit over the top, rushed and a little claustrophobic at times. All in all a memorable experience, but one which won't be repeated too often. Thanks.
This was my first Michelin Star dining experience, and was honestly the best meal out I've ever had. Well worth every penny
Food is amazing as are the staff - they couldn't do more if they tried. Amazing.
We had a great time here. The menu is a la carte, which is unusual for a Michelin starred place. They gave us snacks while we were looking at the menu, which I thoroughly approved of. The truffle dumpling was to die for!
I opted for the short rib while my wife had the duck. The short rib was amazing, with a real beefy flavour.
We'll definitely go back
Wonderful casual dining experience. We visited in autumn 2021 and 2022 as it was so nice. The menu is so varied and the food and drink selection is sublime.
We even got a little treat because we mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday. The sticky toffee madeleines were so so yummy.
It is expensive, but not ridiculously so. Definitely worth the price.
