Review Spencer Arms - Cawthorne

Second visit to Spencer arms. Visited for Sunday lunch, very busy on arrival, lots of tables taken with diners and drinkers. It was a lovely sunny day so lots were outside enjoying the sunshine. Shown to our tble which was nice and in the main restaurant. Both decided on Sunday roast, 1 sirloin of beef(pink), & 1 roast of the day(lamb). Both meals arrived in due course, piping hot, huge Yorkshire pudding, accompanied with veg selection, cauliflower & broccoli cheese and extra jug of gravy. Delicious. Cannot fault any of it. Top marks to all the staff at Spencer arms for once again making our sunday lunch visit memorable. We will beback, for sure. Ps, make sure to book as its very popular. First visit to Spencer Arms, definitely not our last. Popped in for a late lunch, lovely ambience on entering. Shown to a lovely table in front of open fire. Nice menu, lots of choice. Opted for fish & chips and roasted cod loin. Both main courses were delicious, good portion size, all freshly cooked and well presented. No room for desserts. Service, ambience, food, atmosphere were all very relaxed. So good, we've booked again for Sunday lunch. Can't wait. Thanks for a memorable visit. Compliments to all staff at Spencer Arms. We've now returned for Sunday lunch, thankfully we booked as it was very busy yet had a nice atmosphere. Shown to our table and given menus and drinks request. Well it's got to be roast dinner. Opted for main course only, 1 roast beef( pink) 1 roast of the day ( gammon). Both meals arrived in due course. Lovely presented, tasted even better. See pictures. Can't find a fault with ambience, service, food quality. 5 stars to the team at Spencer Arms. We will definitely be returning.

Very nice pub, efficient service, tasty food. Steaks are on the pricey side. Dogs are welcome inside. Sizeable parking. The outside seating area all decorated with small lights makes it look like a fairy tale.

We ate here as a party of four (can’t believe it had been over 12 x years since our last visit) and it was absolutely brilliant. The service, the staff and the food simply couldn’t be faulted. I dad the steak pie - absolutely exquisite. Will NOT let it be so long before we go again.

Fantastic food! The steak and ale pie is spectacular, North Americans missing their gravy and biscuit are in for a treat with the pastry. Excellent service, pleasant surrounds and the best food.

Our first visit here, excellent food, service and a lovely atmosphere. Would happily return.

Had a date night here and the food was absolutely amazing. Both myself and my partner loved every course. Top quality ingredients, attentive staff, beautiful pub. Can't wait to come back!

Lovely place - excellent service, fabulous menu...the best meal out I've had in a long time. I had ham hock terrine for starters, then lamb roast followed by creme brulee. Our party of 4 also shared a cheese board. We all had a really great time, would definitely recommend.

Had the 3 course Sunday lunch today. Beautiful food. Best Sunday roast out I have had in a long time. Great service and staff too. Good value for money.

What a lovely place. We stopped here after a 115 mile journey to rest and recover before travelling back and I can say that I enjoyed every minute here. Everyone was so friendly and nothing was too much of a bother. The menu was refreshing as there were plenty of alternative food choices all of which sounded delicious. I had pulled pork spring rolls as a starter and they were really tasty, would have like more but that's because they were very good. The duck for main was really tasty, cooked a bit more than I'd like but the flavour was enjoyable and the jus that went with it was wonderful. The indoor and outside seating areas are lovely and all have parasols to provide shade should you want it. Dog friendly and pleasant views all around. I have already mentioned it but the staff were fantastic. If I'm ever up that way again I will certainly be coming back.

Had lunch just after Christmas, we were in one of the side rooms which was a little cold. Our party had fish and chips, liver and a burger. If you have a healthy appetite the order the large fish and chips as even this isn’t huge. Liver was excellent, cooked very well.

Another local restraunt which comes highly recommended. We have again eaten here several times and never fail to have a lovely experience.
The food is traditional but served and presented to a very high standard.
It is a place of choice for special treats and occasions.
Highly recommended.

Disappointed fish and chip fan. Dry, pale chips, undersized fish and cold peas, what more can i say!!! £12.00 each portion, robbery with violence, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask!!!!

BRING BACK OUR PUB! Can't believe what has happened to this pub, it's a total disgrace, now a fancy full blown restaurant no pub remains, total travesty

Sunday lunch ruined. Booked sunday lunch for 2pm did not get menu untill 2-30 as there were not enough, starters arrived at 3pm main course of roast beef was a piece of very tough cheap steak badly cooked veg was cold no potatoes and pudding was not edible.Because we just wanted to go did not check bill untill next day and was charged 55p per head too much. There were not enough staff and the ones they had seemed to pamper to the regulars all in all a very unsatisfactory experience and one that we wont be repeating

Visited for sunday lunch but wont go again. Food was warmed up, very small portions and very over priced. We were promised roast potatoes, new potatoes and mashed potatoes, we got 2 small new potatoes each, these were hard with thick skins and old, we could not eat them. One carrot each, 2 green beans and a tiny piece of brocolli. The small yorkshire pud was burnt black and stone cold. The beef was nice and tender but we only got 2 tiny pieces each, no more than a mouthfull. My wifd had a creme broulee for after, tis was awfull, frozen and so small. It was tasted and left and at £5.60p a total waste. The village of cawthorne is charming and the antique centre is worth a visit but steer clear of the pub its a waste of time and cash.

Avoid! Rude staff and poor food. Heard good things about the Spencer Arms, but the nice setting was ruined by the rudeness of the staff and some pretty mediocre food. Bar staff took my order incorrectly and then tutted when I pointed it out - then insisted I pay the difference because my original order was slightly more expensive! Don't mind paying for quality food, but when the food finally arrived it tasted like it had been reheated. A real shame, because friends had eaten there years ago and had a great meal. Things have gone badly wrong since then, I won't be returning.

Fab food/BAD BAD C/service. Staff really nice, food really nice, place really nice... customer service from chef/part owner leaves alot to be desired......

Fish and chips are spot on and the steak and ale pie just melts in your mouth. Desserts are good but overpriced.

Simple menu gear food, try the venison with chocolate sauce

A great spot with choice of beer garden or cosy pub atmosphere. Food is first rate from a simple but high quality menu. Great beers on offer too. A gem

I visited this quaint little pub with my elderly Mum - she wanted 'somewhere nice' for a Sunday lunch, and I had heard good things about this place. It is like a tardis; it looks little and quaint from the front - a typical little village pub, but drive into the car park and the whole thing changes - large car park to the rear, absolutely huge conservatory! The main restaurant is in this conservatory - probably around the size of my ground floor at home, and is the white tablecloth and linen napkin set up - as we hadn't booked, and the place was packed, the manager, seeing my mum, found us a table in the bar area, and personally brought us drinks and a menu - now, my mum is registered blind, and the manager stood and read the menu to her, discussing her options - top notch service. We had the soup, which was a thick vegetable broth, served with hot white rolls and butter; Sunday lunch turned out to be baked Sea Bass and Grilled Salmon in a white wine sauce, served with fresh vegetables on the side - superbly cooked, rapidly delivered and including half a lager shandy fo Mum and a pineapple and lemonade for me came to an astounding £22.00. The waiting staff had obviously been appraised by the manager of my mum's sight problem, and they placed things within reach, guiding her to condiments, cutlery and the position of her drink; I was VERY impressed and we will definately be going back. 5 stars have been given because the food was beautifully cooked and presented, the service was I believe above and beyond what one could reasonably expect from a very busy team, coping with a packed establishment, at very short notice - in fact they can have 10 stars for the service and understanding they offered.

Came here as it's the local and we're visiting in town. We were expecting more of a traditional pub but this is split into a bar and nice restaurant which we weren't prepared for. The atmosphere suggested higher end food and the prices did as well. Unfortunately it just isn't worth it as the food was mediocre and I ordered a side of veggies that were all deep fried. The service was great but I'd come here for a good pint and skip dinner.

Lovely food, great staff, amazing open log fires and great choice of wines. Perfect venue in beautiful location for any night out with friends or family. highly recommended.

Nice location, upmarket village style pub. Blacksheep beer very good, and clean spacious interior. If I order brie and cranberry sandwich and am told it will be 45 minutes as the kitchen is busy fine, but after 50 minutes I have to chase and when it arrives it is missing the cranberry that's not good. When I queried this the Barman looked at me as if I was going to start taking hostages. Chips and salad ok but can't go too wrong with this. Staff are orange and look like they just fell off a Hollyoaks set on crack. Nice place for a pint, thats about all.

We went to the spencers arms to celebrate my sisters 18th. 9 of us went in total. Wr started the night with drinks at the bar before been shown toour table. The dining area was huge. we all got something different and got loads of veg for down the middle for us all to dip in. everything arrived in good time and all at once. The evening was a great success, and one member of staff even stopped to take a picture of us all, even though the y were really busy. A fantastic night and we will be sure to visit there again some time soon.

Nice and quiet, the food was ok but there's not much choice on the menu. Bit expensive for what you get.
