Reviews The Stables At The Grove

The grove has three restaurants, a buffet, an exclusive and the stables. The stables is a beautiful renovated stable which serves top quality food, silver service where no issue to small for them to fix & a beautiful setting. I had the special of the day which was flat iron steak with bone marrow and horseradish risotto - stunning although would have liked both marrows to be soft. The marathon pudding was unreal, gooey and delicious fondant with phenomenal salted caramel ice cream! As my Dad said you have to be hungry as a horse to eat at the stables!

As you drive down the long, winding road that leads towards The Grove, you may be mistaken for thinking you have taken a wrong turn, as the grounds are huge and the road is long and keeps on going. It is quite breathtaking as you get closer, especially on a bright, sunshiny day, as the main building looks large & stately, surrounded by beautiful green land. The Stables Restaurant looks like an old stables conversion (hence the name). The vivid green of the well-kept surrounding land/ grass, as it's known for its golf course too, was picturesque in the sunshine. As you approach, there is ample parking in their large car parks. There are 3 different restaurants at the Grove, but today I ate in The Stables Restaurant, which is not too formal, quite bright and airy. The menu was one page, which I like, because I feel it keeps the food fresher rather than a huge menu. I went for the special as a starter, which was described as crab Tempura with vegetables, which was served with a little side of noodles and was nice, but you only got one crab claw for your £19. For mains as it was a Sunday, my friend had the roast beef dinner, and I decided to try the chicken and leek pie, pancetta, mash, and a creamy tarragon sauce. We also had sides of mixed vegetables which came with the roast dinner & I ordered a side of broccoli. My pie was small but packed with flavour, and the creamy tarragon sauce worked wonderfully with the mash & and vegetables, and I ate every bit! I also tried the beef, which was perfectly cooked and served with delicious gravy, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding & a side of vegetables. We had one glass of wine each, a Rapura sauvignon blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand, which was lovely! The bill came, with service to £60 per head. I really enjoyed all the food, so I would give it a 9/10. The service was good, staff very attentive except at the very start, where only one of us was given a menu, and no one came back with another one. Fortunately, my friend knew what she was having quickly, so she gave me her menu to peruse. Afterwards, we retired to the bar area, which is by The Glasshouse Restaurant (a buffet style restaurant), to have a coffee. Will definitely return again! . . The service was excellent. I noticed a Irish manager observation where on q. Walking around making sure all was in order. Apologies I didn't get his name. We had a 3 course meal. Very timely order. Had the fish of the day sole on the bone. Just ever so slightly overcooked. Cheesecake was practically frozen sauce with it was delicious. But Would I return?? yes. Booked again for another pop up

Our meal was delicious, and the Stables has a lovely ambience. It was a special celebration and we were well looked after. The Ribeye steak and lamb cutlets were cooked to perfection, sides plentiful and the chocolate delice was delicious too. Big thanks to Mia and the team for looking after us. We had a lovely time, and will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

Had breakfast one morning here during my stay at the Grove. The bar is very cozy and the decor gives a warm vibe in the otherwise chilly winter. The view into the golf course is stunning under morning sunlight. Staff exceptionally friendly and would check in with me every now and then to ensure I’m fully served. Portion of food was generous, quality of the English breakfast is of great standards!

Excellent all round - food, menu options, wine, ambience - just a lovely experience - and luckily they had a table with one day's notice! Highly recommend a walk around the grounds afterwards.

Have been here many times and it never disappoints. Scallops, beef cheek and lemon posset for me and beef carpaccio, fish & chips & expresso for my husband. Fab pina coladas too! 🍸 They also gave us a special happy anniversary cake at the end of our meal which was amazing and a lovely gesture.

We had an amazing experience and meal at the Stables. My husband is gluten and dairy free and was so happy to enjoy all three courses (made especially for him) the food was exceptional. I cannot thank Matt and the team enough, we appreciate the care and attention provided to ensure he had a safe meal. We will no doubt be returning in the future. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Our experience eating at the Stables was like eating where “regular” people eat….hear me out lol! There’s a few different restaurant on site and each provide a different experience. The experience at the Stable had more of a quiet setting, low dim lighting, televisions throughout but not overwhelming. And the food prices aren’t as expensive but the food still tastes great and filling. I ordered the chicken schnitzel burger, which comes with fries and I would order it again. My wife ordered the Stables beef burger which came with real thick cut bacon. She eat it all. I ate the bacon lol. We normally never finish our meal, so that said a lot about us. Thank you 🙏🏾

Midweek lunch for 3. Excellent choices on the menu and there's a vegan menu too. Lamb rump for me with tenderstem broccoli to complement. A little chilli in amongst the broccoli to liven it up. I'm told the Dover sole with Morecambe Bay brown shrimp was delicious too. Service was excellent....attentive and efficient.
